This week I came across four different blog posts with the title “Things That Make Me Happy”. I was inspired to make my own list of what makes me happy these days, especially after yesterday’s depressing “I hate winter” post.
And what better way to do that than in “Friday Five” format, since this week is open to any topic we choose! Thanks Courtney, Cynthia, and Mar!
Here are the blog posts that were the inspiration behind this:
And now, for my list:
1. Pajamas. Lately whenever I am home all I want to do is put on some warm pajamas and curl up on the couch. I am always trying to get in comfortable clothes as soon as I walk in the door but in the summer I’m happy in shorts and a t-shirt. Lately it’s all about pajamas and hoodies- lots of layers.
2. Seeing our house being built. Lately we have been able to see quite a bit of progress each time we go! Visiting the house to take pictures and measurements is something to look forward to each week. And now I’m counting down the weeks until we can move in!
3. Dark chocolate. Ever since finishing the Whole30 dark chocolate has been my go-to sweet treat. I definitely don’t have a taste for really sugary deserts so this is perfect. I made a little mix of chocolates from Fresh Market last weekend, and each night grab a few pieces after dinner.
4. Wine. Red, to be more specific. I don’t think this needs much more of an explanation.
5. Running. I haven’t been running much lately, and I feel like I never get to run outside any more. But its made me appreciate the runs I do get to do even more, and makes me really look forward to spring running.
Speaking of running, I’m hosting a coaching discount throughout March, so click here for more info!

Can’t imagine how exciting it is to see your house being built! I am most definitely in pajamas all the time lately, it’s gotten to the point where dressing up involves yoga pants. Also dark chocolate and wine, of course!
[email protected] says
I agree about yoga pants being “dressing up”- its much harder to put them on than pajamas or sweats:)
meredith @ The Cookie ChRUNicles says
I still can’t believe the things they make me happy title was so popular this week, it was totally random for me to write as my title! Thanks for mentioning me! I am totally appreciating each outdoor run I can get in lately. I cannot wait for April to come when the threat of snow and ice should be completely over with!
[email protected] says
I can’t wait either! I need to keep these days in mind when I am back to running outside whenever I want. I never want to take that for granted:)
Chrissy @Pink Polish and Running Shoes says
I’m the same way about getting into comfy clothes after work as soon as possible haha! As for things that make me happy, I’d say red wine, kitty snuggles, new nail polish and a good at home workout.
[email protected] says
Great list! And I think its nice that all of those things can happen while wearing PJs!
Sue says
#1 Being able to walk to my kids homes instead of driving from Philly.
#2 My puffy coat that Katie bought me.
#3 My great slippers that Louie bought me.
#4 Chocolate…and it’s not always dark either.
#5 Beer, sometimes wine too.
Hawaii would always be my top choice.
Your home is looking really nice! You are going to be so happy there!
[email protected] says
Great list! I’m sure it’s so nice to be so close to everyone, especially after having lived in a different state! And I am sure you needed a warm coat just about every day this winter. YES to Hawaii!!
You will have to come see the house once we are settled! We’re getting really close now:)
Sue @ This Mama Runs for Cupcakes says
How exciting to be building a house!! Such a fun process I bet, but stressful too I’m sure!! I’m loving the dark chocolate and wine right now too, especially with all of the snow days we’ve been having 🙂
[email protected] says
Yes-fun but stressful! I think that moving and decorating are going to be a real challenge, but it will be worth it!
Taca @ A Side Of Dessert says
Wow, how exciting is it to see each step in the building process of your house?! That’s fantastic! I love everything you shared! I’ve been changing into sweats and hoodies as soon as I step through the door! And common, you can’t go wrong with dark chocolate and wine! Thank you for mentioning me as well, always appreciated 🙂 Have a fabulous weekend!
[email protected] says
Sounds like we are on the same page! Happy Friday!:)
misszippy says
Cheers to wine and dark chocolate! And new houses–so exciting for you to be able to check in on the progress.
I think it goes without saying that flying to Napa right now is making me pretty darn happy!
[email protected] says
Flying somewhere warm would definitely make me happy as well! Good luck and have fun!
susie @ suzlyfe says
Reading. My. Mind. I wish I had a house being built tho
[email protected] says
It’s fun, but definitely stressful too. It will be better once we are settled there and can enjoy the other 4 things.
Megan @ Meg Go Run says
We are a lot alike. Wine, running, and pjs also make me happy. And if all three of those things happen in one day, even better! Also, my kitties make me happy!
[email protected] says
There’s no reason why all those things can’t happen just about every day if you ask me:)
Kristina says
Hahaha! Okay, I am not pointing this out to be rude, but you wrote “couching discount” instead of coaching discount. That cracks me up because I ALWAYS type “couch” instead of coach! I’m glad I’m not the only one! 🙂
When do you think your house will be done? It looks like it’s really getting there! I’m so excited for you!
[email protected] says
HA! Thanks for letting me know:) There are a bunch of words like that for me but I am usually so careful about them because I mess them up all the time! My autocorrect always likes to changes “glutes” to “flutes” to I try to be careful about that one:)
[email protected] says
Oh, and we are supposed to close in about a month. But it’s just about done! We will probably move in early April:)
Laura @ This Runner's Recipes says
That’s so exciting about your house being built!! Dark chocolate and red wine always make me happy (and running also!), although lately stout beers have been making me oh so happy.
[email protected] says
Beer sometimes makes me happy too! I have to be in the mood for it though:)
Rachel says
What has made me happy this week is when I simply get to put my feet up. I’ve been training hard and the sweet relief is just golden!
[email protected] says
That’s a great one! Little things like that can make all the difference during a tough week!
Tara @ Running 'N' Reading says
I’m so excited to hear that your house is coming along nicely; what an exciting adventure (and probably a bit nerve-wracking, as well!) and I know you’ll be thrilled when you are able to move in. Wine is definitely something that makes me happy; whatever I choose to eat after my marathon on Sunday is also definitely going to make me happy – ha! Hope you have a great weekend, Lisa!
[email protected] says
The house stuff can be really nerve-wracking but I know it will be worth it in the end! Enjoy your post-marathon meal…that is always the best!
Amy @ Mama Running for God says
How exciting on watching your new house being built!! I’d be there all day taking photos! LOL
I’m not a chocolate person at all, so you can keep the dark chocolate but I love wine, so I would share that with you if I was there!
I’ve been running on the mill a little more than I would care to this time of the year, so I will be happy when spring comes and I can run outside most of the time.
Where would I go if I won that giveaway….hmmm…I am thinking Bahamas, Australia or St Thomas 🙂
[email protected] says
We try to go there every weekend to take pictures and see the progress! It’s really fun!
OK I will eat all the chocolate but we can share the wine!:)
I can’t wait for spring either! And your vacation ideas sound fabulous!
Lesley says
Getting back to running has made me so happy. I was cranky for such a long time because I couldn’t run. I’m enjoying being able to run again and I’m having fun.
And chocolate and wine are always good 🙂
[email protected] says
I know the feeling! I’m glad you are enjoying being back at it!
Lauren @ The Bikini Experiment says
Agreed on all of the above! My pajamas or more specifically my sweat pants call my name when I come home. You can never go wrong with wine or chocolate either!
[email protected] says
Yup sweat pants will do the trick for me as well! And they go perfect with wine/chocolate:)
Suzy says
The thing that makes me the most happy right now is how Callum started saying “uh oh” when he “accidentally” drops something. He’s turning one next week and I can’t stop adoring his sweet little face and listening to him say “uh oh!” Love it.
[email protected] says
That is SO sweet!:) Enjoy this time before he starts saying “No”!
Lora @ Crazy Running Girl says
Pajamas are THE BEST. I wish I could live in them!
[email protected] says
Me too! Why isn’t it ok to wear them to work??
Karen G. says
Pajamas and wine?! You kind of just described my entire winter! 😉
Congrats on the house being built! That much be so exciting watching it get closer to move-in time! 🙂
[email protected] says
Haha yep when I think back on winter 2015 I will pretty much remember drinking wine in my pajamas.
Thanks! It’s very exciting:)
Marcia says
I had to just stop dark chocolate totally as I seem to lack an off-switch with it. I am happy it’s almost the end of the month. March had better be spring-like!
[email protected] says
I am crossing my fingers for a spring-like March too! I am not happy about seeing more snow in the 10 day forecast!
Sarah @pickyrunner says
Yep yep yep I could go along with most of these. The first thing I’ve been doing after work is changing into pajamas. And running will never fail to make me happy. If I’m not smiling while I’m out there, something’s wrong. I don’t know if I would feel the same way on the treadmill… oh, and chocolate. YEP. Happy Friday 🙂
[email protected] says
It’s really hard to get the same feeling from running on a treadmill. The only positive is that I like to sweat and that is bound to happen on a treadmill. Have a great weekend!
[email protected] says
I would definitely be going somewhere warm. This winter has been so cold. Love your list. Wine always makes me happy. Drinking it in your pjs:)
[email protected] says
Wine in PJs is perfect! Going somewhere warm right now would be amazing…
Beth @ RUNNING around my kitchen says
Those are all good things!!! I’m all about comfortable clothes when I’m home too!
[email protected] says
It’s definitely the way to go! I don’t understand how my husband can stay in his work clothes all evening. I am reading to change the second I walk in the door!
April @ RunTheGreatWideSomewhere says
It’s crazy how happy putting on my flannel PJs makes me! Love seeing everything that makes you happy, what a fun list!
[email protected] says
Glad that you feel the same way about PJs! Have a great weekend!
Courtney @ Eat Pray Run DC says
so cool watching your home being built! that is awesome. chocolate and wine are a must! have a great weekend!
[email protected] says
Thanks, it’s pretty exciting! Yay for another chocolate and wine lover:) Enjoy your weekend!
Charissa says
The things that make you happy are so similar to mine right now. Of course running/wine/chocolate are pretty much always a given for me! But boy do I love to just settle in for the night in pajamas – especially in the winter. You nailed that one! And I’m happy for you on that last one – it’ll be so exciting to move into your new home!
[email protected] says
Thank you!! I think with the crappy weather we have been having its been even more important to rely on these little things to help us stay positive:)
Sarah says
What a great list! I love all of those things – especially drinking wine and eating chocolate while lounging in my pajamas. All I need is a house of my own!
[email protected] says
Wine, chocolate, and PJs seems to be the perfect combo! And you don’t necessarily need a house, just a comfy couch:)
Salt says
So many great things to be happy about! I’ve been seeing more and more posts like this as well and I think it’s important to take stock in the things that do make us smile. Especially right now with winter all miserable and seemingly unending. 🙂 I’ve been getting a lot of good use out of my comfiest pjs too!
[email protected] says
It really helped me to write this post! I was feeling really blah the other night so I forced myself to think about happy stuff. (Obviously while drinking wine and eating chocolate in pajamas…)
Lizzy says
I love this! After seeing Cori’s post last week I’ve been trying to ask myself each morning “what makes me happy right now?”. I agree that it’s been an especially good tool for combating the mid-winter funk.
[email protected] says
Yes! I need to keep happy things in mind more often!
Tricia @ A Couple of Dashes says
Lately, Strala yoga and time with friends has been making me happy! I went for the first time last night and had an absolute blast. I’ve also been loving getting back into running too. I’m slowly increasing my mileage and appreciating it every single time, even if it’s just for a short distance.
[email protected] says
All great things to be happy about!! Have a great weekend:)
Ashley @ A Lady Goes West says
Hi Lisa!! Talking about things that makes us happy, makes us even happier, right? I love this! I second you on the wine thing. In fact, I’m going to a wine-tasting event tonight and can’t wait. Although I tend to prefer white wine, nothing beats a strong glass of red. Sooo exciting about your house! A big happy Friday to you!
[email protected] says
Thanks Ashley! I definitely feel like talking about the happy stuff makes me feel better! Writing this post helped me get out of a winter-funk I was in the other day. Have a great time at your wine-tasting!
Lindsey says
YES to all of those things! Happy posts are the best 🙂
[email protected] says
Glad you agree!:)
Sam @ Grapefruit & Granola says
I absolutely love pajamas. I have a pair of PJ pants from the Banana Republic outlet that are cotton and fitted at the bottom, and I pretty much wear them all the time. I wish I could get another pair but they haven’t had anything similar the last time I’ve been in there 🙁
[email protected] says
I hate when you find the perfect piece of clothing and then you can’t ever find it again! My favorites this year are from the gap.Hopefully banana will still making others like your favorites again!
Sam @ The Running Graduate says
I’ve also become hooked on chocolate lately. Red wine, too! I drank it for the first time a couple of weeks ago and it is wonderful! I hope you have a great weekend Lisa!
[email protected] says
Red wine is definitely my go-to drink, especially in the winter! Glad that you gave it a try and that you liked it!
Natalie says
Yep. Yep. Yep! Dark chocolate is a must! Red wine is such a wonderful treat and as soon as I walk in the door I take off my shoes and put on my PJs! 🙂
Another happy thing for me islavender baths with candlelight, classical music and massages.
Your house is so pretty – so exciting!!!
Have a great weekend!!
[email protected] says
Thank you! I love taking a nice relaxing bath as well! Oh and massages are amazing!
Nicole@TheGirlWhoRanEverywhere says
Love this!! All of these things make me happy for you!:)
Your house looks fantastic-the fact that you are having a new one built is just amazing!
[email protected] says
Thanks Nicole! Its pretty exciting! We went back yesterday and now I just want to move in like immediately:)
Karen @ Fit in France says
All of those things would definitely make me happy too ! I love chocolate, and a good glass of wine, but preferably not together.
[email protected] says
I enjoy them together but even just one at a time is good enough:) Glad that you share in my enjoyment of these things!
Hailey says
I live in my pjs pretty much when I’m not a work or out in public haha. I don’t know what it is, but I’m just made for comfort clothes. I like to get dressed up every once in a while, but other than that I love my workout clothes and pjs:) Have you heard of Pajamagram? They can run on the expensive side, but I got a pair of coffee-themed pjs for Christmas and they are so so comfy!
[email protected] says
I love comfy clothes too! I wish I could just wear sweat pants or pajamas all the time!
I have never heard of pajamagram! That sounds amazing!
Jennifer says
Beautiful stairway – nice to see your house progress. I love my wine, and sitting under layers of blankets.
[email protected] says
Thank you! Yes, a nice cozy blanket makes these cold winter nights even better!
