I am back from an amazing 10 days in Hawaii, but not without a bit of jet lag to make the return extra challenging. Losing 6 hours of time isn’t easy, plus we took a red-eye from Maui to LA, so I basically didn’t sleep on Tuesday night. We were back at work on Thursday after getting into Baltimore at 6pm on Wednesday, but I think all the Starbucks initially powered me through. The exhaustion actually caught up with us over the weekend. We couldn’t sleep at night and were tired all day.
My workouts have been all thrown off over the past 2 weeks, but in a good way. I mean, who can complain about missing a few workouts when you opt for laying by the ocean with a coffee instead? I did manage to do something most days, even if it was just a few exercises in the room.
Rob’s parents rented a house for the 6 of us, including his sister and her husband. I pretty much alternated between easy runs and doing PT/strength exercises each day. Rob and I stayed 2 extra days and by that point I was feeling extra lazy, and barely even did my exercises. Sitting on our balcony looking at the ocean seemed way more appealing.
The foot held up really well too, despite, spending most of the trip barefoot or in flip-flops. There must be something about vacation that makes injuries magically disappear.
I guess I’ll recap starting with when we left for the trip, even though I don’t think I have posted my workouts in a few weeks…
Saturday: Rest (we were up at 3am for our flight)
Sunday: 40 minute walk with Rob plus PT exercises
Monday: 3.3 miles plus drills
Tuesday: PT/strength training
Wednesday: 3.2 miles plus strides
Thursday: PT/strength training
Friday: 3 miles plus drills and strides
Saturday: PT/strength training
Sunday: 4 miles (longest run in months!!!)
Monday: PT/strength training
Wednesday: Rest/travel day
Thursday: 2.1 miles
Friday: Strength training
Saturday: PT exercises plus extra glutes and core work
Sunday: 4.6 miles…my legs were sore from Saturday’s workout but I was excited to be able to increase my distance a little more this week. (Although my weekly mileage was super low due to only running 2 days)
I brought some resistance bands with me on the trip so that’s what I used for my strength training. When I got back and used weights on Friday, I was really feeling it!
I’m hoping to get back to a routine this week, but I sure will miss those ocean views.
