On Monday I decided to document my meals to share, only to realize that I was eating the same things I have shared on here a million times before. I feel like I change things up quite a bit, but apparently not. I think the problem is that I always eat the same things on Mondays, which seems to be my favorite day to take pictures of my food. It’s the first day of the workweek and all my food prep is fresh from the weekend. So that’s my story and I’m sticking to it! But since I have the pictures, why not share anyway?
5:00am: Monday morning started out as usual, with coffee, water, and a banana. I didn’t run but did the Iron Strength workout which took about 50 minutes.
7:00am: Ate two frittatas with a muffin (recipe to come on Friday!) with more coffee while reading a few blogs before leaving for work.
8:30am: It was a little early for my morning snack, but I felt like I needed something. I had these chocolate chip cookie dough bars. Eaten out of the plastic bag that were used to bring them in my lunch bag.
11:45am: Ate an early lunch at my desk: The usual spring mix with roasted sweet potatoes, broccoli, and flat iron steak. I actually don’t get to eat steak very often anymore because they don’t have the kind I like in the grocery store.
2:00pm: I’m all thrown off today, and have an afternoon meeting so eat a Larabar because I know I will be starving soon.
4:30pm: Get home from work and snack on cashews and raisins while blogging and waiting for Rob to get home.
7:00pm: Eat our usual Monday meal of salmon. We have some roasted red potatoes and green beans on the side. I forgot to take a picture but you can see I have eaten almost the exact same thing before and blogged about it.
8:30pm: We decide that we have survived Monday and therefore need some dessert. I had made these blondies over the weekend so we enjoyed them with some ice cream and chocolate chips.
Do you eat the same things ever day? Same things on the same days of the week?
Do eat a lot of snacks throughout the day?
meredith@ Cookie ChRUNicles says
Not only do I eat the same things every day, I eat the same things throughout the day every day! lol
There’s nothing wrong with that! I just find it funny that whenever I go to do a WIAW post (which isn’t that often anymore) I always end up sharing the same things!
Michele @ paleorunningmomma says
I feel like Mondays tend to be my most predictable day, probably coming off the weekend when things might have been all over the place. But yeah, same stuff usually! There are only so many things you can get at the store, might as well but what you know you like 🙂
That’s true! And I think there is just something about eating foods you are comfortable with on Mondays…maybe it makes it easier to get back into a routine or something.
well I don’t eat the same thing every day, but I think it’s good to know what works, right? How did you like the blondies?
They were really good! And I loved that they were so easy to make. I think they will be one of those snacks that I end up making all the time:)
Susie @ SuzLyfe says
If that is what you eat every day, count me in! Cookie Dough bars? yes please. I have hardly cooked this month. We are probably bleeding money through the ears, but there is nothing I can do about it. I am packing at least part of my lunch today, so that’s a start, right?
It’s definitely a start! This was a pretty good day because I was home all weekend and did a lot of meal prep and baking. The weeks when I don’t have time on the weekends I end up eating more packaged stuff or buying lunch out.
Sue @ This Mama Runs for Cupcakes says
I definitely eat the same thing over and over and I can’t lie, it’s getting a little boring :/
I get bored too, and I think its because I will eat the same things for months before changing it up. If I look back to what I was eating 6 months ago its much different!
Megan @ Meg Go Run says
During the school year I totally eat the same thing every day, so I understand. In the summer, I eat more of what I crave, but usually the same types of things. A day of what I eat would either be really boring (especially because I don’t take good pictures) or everyone would be like OMG YOU EAT A LOT! 🙂
Haha! I think that’s part of the fun on WIAW, seeing that people don’t eat 3 square meals a day and that its not always pinterest-worthy. But I do find that when I work from home or am off that I can be a bit more creative:)
Ice cream is my weakness, especially in the summer. I have fallen in love with Yasso Greek Yogurt bars – the chocolate chip cookie dough ones. I have one almost every night, then I don’t feel as guilty. Lol. But I also love an ice cream sandwich once in awhile. 🙂
I need to try that pb&j larabar. I think I’d love it.
Usually I eat a lot of ice cream in the summer but for some reason this year we haven’t had as much! We actually were craving it on Monday because we realized we missed national ice cream day over the weekend:)
Laura @ This Runner's Recipes says
Yes, I feel like 80% of my meals are the same! Every once in a while I try a new vegetable and get excited, only to realize I’m still eating a variation on chicken, potatoes, and veggies.
Yup, me too! I pretty much rotate the same sides each week, and try to change up the ways I cook chicken. I guess its good when you find what works and enjoy it enough to stick with it!
Yummm! raisins, cashews, asparagus some of my favorite things 🙂
I tend to go in phases I will spend a week eating multi grain English muffins with peanut butter, sometimes a few times a day because I crave them lol and then not have them for a month lol
I do that with certain foods too! But I have definitely noticed if I eat the same thing too often I get sick of it really quickly:)
I am such a creature of habit it’s quite sad. I usually only change up my meals when I intentionally try to. Otherwise my diet consists mainly of eggs and fresh fruit in the summer. I’m pretty sure I could snack constantly, but I am trying to cut down… and pack my snack as opposed to eat the snacks out of the office kitchen. This causes me to be a bit more mindful of what I am eating versus just eating cups full of granola because it’s 1. there and 2. free. Haha.
I have to be pretty intentional when I change my meals too. Especially when I want to rely on leftovers for lunch, I need to plan to make dinners that I can made extra servings of!
My dinner changes but my breakfast and lunch are basically the same. It works for me to get ready for work, then lunch at work. Most of the time I bring my lunch, otherwise I’ll lose my parking space.
Same for me! Its much easier to cook different dinners because I have more time and control over those meals.
We tend to repeat the same dinners but this week I’m trying to use up all of our food that has been in the freezer/cupboards. I like doing this once in a while. It makes me feel resourceful and then when I go to Costco and shop again it feels like such a fresh start!
I like doing that before going on vacation! I usually find that we don’t have as much stuff as we think, or some things have gone bad, so I end up going to the store anyway.
Alyssa @ Renaissancerunnergirl says
I eat the same things over and over – oatmeal bakes and/or eggs for breakfast, eggs/waffles or salads for lunch, fish and veggies and rice for dinner, lots of yogurt, fruit, and ice cream for snacks. I always knew I like “what I like” but not until I started doing WIAW did I realize just how much!
Isn’t it eye opening to pay more attention to what you eat throughout the day? And its nice that we can do it in just an observing sort of way, because there is really no right or wrong way, its just something to be aware of!
Sarah @pickyrunner says
I pretty much eat the same food for every meal every day of the week. Weekdays I eat bagels, pita pizzas, and grilled chicken salads with chocolate squares for dessert. Weekends are bagels and burgers, and ice cream. Literally every week haha I’m one of those people that never gets sick of food!
It takes a lot for me to get sick of some of my favorites but it does happen! I used to live off pizza and bagels until I was about 20.
Sam @ See Sam Run says
Your dessert looked so darn good. And those cookie dough bars! I want it all.
My eating is different each week and every time I try to plan my meals I never stick with it. I just go with what I’m feeling each day!
That’s a good strategy! And both the dessert and cookie dough bars were really good:)
Nona @ RunningHigh says
I’m such a creature of habit, I have the same things almost daily too! Why mess with a good thing? Your meals all look delicious!
Good point! Once you find something you like, why change it up?
Niki @ Life With Niki says
I always realize this too as I go through my day of eats… as much as we think we eat a ‘varied’ diet, most people honestly cycle through the same 10-20 foods weekly! Hey, we all just want foods that work for us and taste good! Also, I LOVE that pb&j larabar <3.
You are so right! Its much easier to just find what you like and stick with that. Although it is always good to try new things once in a while too!
Annette @ Sweating Through Life says
I really don’t switch things up often. Last night we actually tried something new and it was delicious, so it will get put into our normal rotation. I do wish though, that I was more of a breakfast eater because I love breakfast foods, but I don’t like eating in the morning:(
I just wish I had more time in the morning to make different breakfasts! I stick with the same frittatas every day because they are easy for me to make over the weekend. It definitely gets boring after awhile!
I am forever making new things for myself, but my husband is a different story. I cook separate meals for us (I’m vegan, he’s very much NOT vegan lol), and he only wants the same things alllllll the time. I get sick of making them. I have no idea how he’s not sick of eating them!
There are definitely times when I get sick of eating the same things! But at least for you guys maybe it makes it a little easier to cook separate meals if he likes the same things all the time:)
Beth @ RUNNING around my kitchen says
I eat the same thing all the time…and none of it is usually too exciting 🙂 I love frittatas and those cookie dough bars look good!
The frittatas are so good for a busy morning…and the cookie dough bars make a great snack!
Great eats…and a PB&J Larabar?! I haven’t seen that in the store yet! Sounds interesting:)
We got these on amazon! They’re really good (and actually taste like PB&J)!!
Morgan @ Morgan Manages Mommyhood says
I definitely feel like I eat the same things, but I also feel like WIAW inspires me to eat other things since I want to post different meals. I always eat leftovers on Mondays.
Thats a good way to think of it! Maybe next time I will try to come up with some new meals for WIAW:) And leftovers on Monday sounds like a great plan!
Sam @ Grapefruit & Granola says
Ha, I couldn’t bring myself to do a WIAW post this week because it would have been identical to last week’s post 🙂
I know the feeling! I even gave myself a few weeks off and still ended up with the same things!
Dani @ DaniCaliforniaCooks says
Sweet potatoes and flank steak! What a lunch!
It’s become a favorite of mine! I roast up veggies over the weekend and cook some steak and then throw it all over some greens each day:)
Katie @ Daily Cup of Kate says
I definitely eat the same things every day during the week! Weekends I usually switch it up a bit!
That seems to be the ways things go around here too! I should really document weekend food because that would be much different!
Tara @ Running 'N' Reading says
I think it’s funny how many of us fall into these patterns, Lisa; I think it’s much easier this way, though! We definitely have a pattern at dinner; I usually cook something in the slow cooker on Monday, which we eat on Monday and then again on Wednesday. Friday is salmon night at our house and we often eat burrito bowls or some kind of Mexican-style dish on Thursdays. So funny! I love seeing these posts; I can usually find some new-to-me ideas.
I feel like we do the same thing with weekly patterns! Its usually some combination of the same 6 meals with one night of eating out. I also like getting inspired by other blog posts!
Sheena @ Paws and Pavement says
I notice that my husband and I eat very similar foods each week. I make the grocery list and it’s practically the same from week to week. It’s fun to get ideas from other people though to mix it up.
I think its easier to eat the same things when you have two or more people to feed…you figure out what everyone likes and just stick with those foods!
I’m making those blondies tonight! I eat lots of the same meals and snacks but never the same things each day!
I hope you like the blondes as much as I did!
Mmmmm that dessert though! Delicious!
I tend to always eat the same things every day as well. I might rotate my dinners but I rotate between the same 3 things 🙂
The dessert was great! And its so much easier to make the same things rather than constantly come up with new ideas:)
Julia @ Lord Still Loves Me says
Lisa, this is my first time on your blog, and I have to let you know how much I love your blog name! There are so many puns about running, but this is one of my favorites I have seen. Your day of food looks GOOD! As in, I would eat basically everything on this day. Have a great rest of your day, Lisa!
Thanks so much!! I really appreciate your comment about my blog name:) And it was a good day of food…so good that I eat this stuff all the time!
Meredith @ ImRunningWithErasers says
I fall into the habit of eating the same thing every day! Same lunches and breakfasts especially. I am a huge snacker (trying to get better), but I try to keep them healthy. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t!
I know what you mean! I need to rely on snacks quite a bit and I think its because my meals are sometimes not big enough to hold me over to the next meal.
I wish I was able to eat the same things all the time. But of course you know my crazy schedule so nothing is balanced for me.
That’s gotta be hard, but at least you have so variety! Eating the same things all the time can get boring:)
My breakfasts are the same (eggs and toast, oatmeal), and my lunches follow the same formula – usually leftovers + salad + orange.
It sounds like alot of us are creatures of habit with our breakfasts and lunches! I think its just easier to not have to worry about those meals.
GiGi Eats says
I typically eat the same things most days of the week, and this is why I don’t do a WIAW post ever – LOL!!! It would be just boringgggg!
Haha that is why I don’t do them every week anymore! I thought if I did them like once a month there would be some more variety, but I guess not!
Miss Polkadot says
Guilty as charged! I definitely eat a lot of the same things over and over again. No matter how often I’ve made plans to change this I haven’t really followed through with them.
Looking at your meals, though, I don’t think repeating them would be all too bad. And that ice cream …
It can be tough to change things up, but when you find what you like, its probably not a bad thing!
Laura @ Mommy Run Fast says
I do okay mixing up my lunch but breakfast and snacks are very similar every day. But part of eating well is finding what you really enjoy- so I just stick with it!
Thats true and thats what I always try to remind myself. Its tough to be creative all the time!
Loved your sharing of your day of eats, so much fun. It is great to see that someone else eats pretty much the same things, I mean we like what we like right?
I can’t believe that I haven’t ever checked out your blog before! So great!
Very true! Its much easier to find what we like and stick with it. Thanks for stopping by my blog!
