I can’t believe Thanksgiving has come and gone and now it’s almost December. Last week was kind of a weird one for me. I took off work on Tuesday for my Dad’s surgery, I had presentations all day Wednesday (which meant Monday was my only day in the office), and we celebrated Thanksgiving on Saturday. I also ran a 5k on Thanksgiving morning, my first one in a year and a half!
It was one of those weeks with a lot of unknowns that had to unfold which leaves me feeling anxious, so in a way I’m kind of glad the week is over. Now we can move on to holiday shopping! (I say that with a hint of sarcasm…) My workouts were decent this week but felt kind of “blah”. Here’s how the week shaped out:
Monday: 5 miles
I was going to do 3-4 and then did 5. How does that happen? Lately work has been a little quieter than it was back in the summer/September so I feel like an extra few minutes of running won’t impact the day. In fact, it can actually help I think!
Tuesday: Strength training
I left the house around 7:30 to drive down to Bethesda where my dad was having back surgery. My mom and sister were there too and we actually got to hang out with my dad until around 1:15 when he was taken back for surgery. We got lunch, I did some work, and at 4:00 the doctor called us back to tell us it went well. I decided to head home at that point since we couldn’t see him for a few more hours and I knew traffic would be bad. It took me about 2.5 hours to get home. I felt like I spent most of the day in the car!
Wednesday: 35 minutes spin bike, core work
I decided to take the day off running since I had a race the next day. Plus I would be spending most of the day on my feet presenting, so wanted to give my legs as much of a break as possible.
Thursday: 5k Turkey Trot
I’ll share a recap of these race on Wednesday. My time was one of my slowest but it felt good to get back out there.
We didn’t celebrate Thanksgiving because my dad had just gotten home from the hospital. Rob and I went over and hung out with my parents for a while and then got carry out for dinner on our way home.
Friday: Strength training, 20 minutes spin bike
I decided to get in my 2nd strength training workout of the week on Friday. I was off from work and spent the day cleaning, doing laundry, and some meal prep, so in the afternoon I hopped on the bike for an easy 20 minutes.
Saturday: 9 miles
I headed out for my run at 5:30am and was done by 7:00. It was nice to be done that early on a Saturday! I did some food prep for our Thanksgiving dinner that night and some more cleaning. That afternoon we celebrated Thanksgiving at my parents’ house.
For a short week, it sure felt like a busy one! I’m actually looking forward to getting back into my normal routine for a few weeks before the holiday madness begins.
