It’s that day of the week where we take some time to think out loud! I’m a little short on time this week, so forgive me if this isn’t well thought out or logical in any way. As usual, thanks Amanda!
1. It’s been pretty tough adjusting back to a regular week of work. I’m not surprised by this…while it feels good to be back to a schedule, I also feel like it’s weird to not have as much time as I did last week!
2. I’ve been having a really hard time lately with picking out what to wear to work. Maybe this is because I spent the majority of the past week in pajamas. Or maybe because I would like to wear leggings every day. I usually try to plan what I am going to wear each day while I shower, but I never end up wearing what I planned.
3. I finally watched Parenthood for the first time ever last night. I plopped myself on the couch after dinner with a glass of wine and Rob found it on Netflix. It kept my attention and I enjoyed it, but it wasn’t what I expected. Not sure what I expected, but maybe something funnier/not as serious? But I think I will watch a few more episodes before I decide for sure how I feel about it.
4. My other evening activity lately has been browsing Pinterest. It’s the perfect form of social media when you are trying to think about beginner to decorate a house. I also feel like I just recently “figured it out”. I’ve heard others’ say that they don’t really get it, and it does take some time. But follow the right people and you will love it and probably get addicted!
5. The potholes around the city have been crazy lately! They always seem worse after the winter, but there is one road/bridge that I take to PT and I feel like I am in a game of Mario Kart while I am driving there!
6. My office at school is next to the gym, where they play music everyday. I’m pretty much used to the noise by now, but they play the same songs over and over. Today was Michael Jackson, so I’ve had Billie Jean in my head all evening.
7. Even though I’m not running the DC half this weekend, I still need to venture down there at some point to pick up our packets. (The plan had been that I would go after work since I can leave much earlier than Rob). It is such a hassle to get from Baltimore to DC during the week, especially at rush hour. But I guess I might as well get the free shirt out of the deal.
That’s about all for this week! Have a great Thursday!
-Do you watch Parenthood?
-What was your favorite video game of the 90s? (I was a Sonic fan)
-Would you wear the race shirt if you didn’t actually run in the race? (If it’s a good shirt, then yes!)

I liked that paperboy game for Nintendo. I watched Parenthood for the first few seasons. And recently saw it was on Netflix, but haven’t watched it. My new show I started to watch on Netflix is Revenge.
[email protected] says
I’ve never seen revenge, but its probably something my husband will start watching soon!
Chrissy @Pink Polish and Running Shoes says
Mario Kart was my jam! hahaha I feel the same way with all the potholes near me too. I kind of cringe every time I hit one. I’ve never seen Parenthood, but I’ve heard other people say it was more serious than they expected too.
[email protected] says
I keep hearing that I should stick with it, and so I’ll probably try a few more episodes before I decide how I feel!

I felt weird and bad wearing the warmer foil wrap thing last year after the half I didn’t finish. Like people were congratulating me and I was like – no, I didn’t finish! lol. I also wear the tshirt but think all the time that I didn’t finish but hey, it’s cute! The potholes here are horrendous too and I feel bad you have to deal with the hassle of picking up your stuff when you aren’t running. Bleh.

At the expo the buy giving out the shirts asked if I was ready for the race andI felt weird but just said yes because I didn’t want to explain myself and make him feel bad. I already have 2 RnR DC shirts so chances are I won’t wear this one very often anyway
Sara @ Lake Shore Runner says
I started Parenthood at Christmas and watched every season by February. I thought it was so addicting. Maybe give it a few more episodes.
[email protected] says
I think that’s what I will plan to do!
Susie @ SuzLyfe says
YESSSSS to Mario Kart. What an excellent game. All versions of it. We had Sonic on our Game Gear. Mortal Kombat was another big fave. Give Parenthood a few watchings–it is one of those that you will be embroiled in as it goes. Some of the characters you actually won’t like at all, but the family dynamics are spellbinding!
[email protected] says
I am already intrigued by the family dynamics. I think thats what has drawn me to it a bit already, even though I’m not too impressed by the storyline.

Once we stopped having major snowstorms, I had a really hard time adjusting back to work too! The concept of having to wake up early and actually wear REAL CLOTHES truly baffled me!
I love Parenthood, however, I dislike that its an hour long. When a show is long-i think of it as a “big commitment” and it takes me a long time to watch it!
[email protected] says
Ugh waking up early and wearing real clothes is the worst:) An hour long show is definitely a big commitment! I know what you mean!
Stacy @ Sweating Tulipz says
The only video game I have ever played was the old school, original Super Mario Brothers. I can still hum the song for some ridiculous reason! haha
I have only watched Parenthood a handful of times, and I thought it was very cute! All of the characters have some aspect that is hilarious! Im just trying to avoid picking up another show that I want to follow!
[email protected] says
Since i don’t have any shows that Im watching (Im not really big into TV) I like having an option of something on netflix that we can put on to zone out in the evenings.
Laura @ This Runner's Recipes says
Mario Kart is so fun! I was all over it in college when they reintroduced to the Wii—my sister and I would play it for hours even though we were probably too old for it!
I’ve never seen Parenthood. My husband and I are currently watching Heroes on Netflix and it’s addicting.
[email protected] says
Hm I have never seen that!
It can be so fun to play old games again- I had a phase in college where my roommate and i did the same thing!
Michele @ paleorunningmomma says
I was obsessed with anything Mario! That probably should have been one of my obsessions from today 🙂 If the shirt’s good I would do it, otherwise no way!
[email protected] says
The shirt is ok, but since I already have 2 Rnr DC shirts I probably won’t wear this one very much anyway. Besides, no one will notice what year its from so I could just pretend its from one of the years that I actually ran:)
Amanda @ .running with spoons. says
I’m seriously loving the fact that you found a way to sneak Mario Kart in your post — that was one of my favourite games as a kid! That and any of the Zelda games. And Donkey Kong. And I loved Sonic, too, but I was team Nintendo so I could never really play it. Yeaaah… I played a lot of video games growing up 😆
[email protected] says
I had Nintendo at one point and then Sega, so I had phases of both Mario and Sonic. Ah, the good ol’ days!
Sara says
Now that the weather is changing, I can’t figure out what to wear. A sweater is fine in the morning, but then I’m a sweaty mess by the end of the day. We had Sega in our house growing up so I was a big Sonic fan. I was so excited to figure out the cheat code so we could play any level we wanted.
[email protected] says
I had Sonic at one point too! But i never figured out the cheat codes! Haha!
Katie @ Daily Cup of Kate says
I still really want to watch Parenthood! I heard you have to watch a few episodes to really get into it.
[email protected] says
Thats what I keep hearing! I’ll need to keep watching before I decide how I feel about it:)
Sue says
Never played video games. My kids did though. Super Mario Brothers is one I remember them playing. Parenthood was one of my favorite shows. Very well casted, and great story lines, but yes, very serious, not a comedy, for sure. I remember entering a 10k, but for some reason, I couldn’t run it, so I never felt like I could wear the shirt. Of course, now the entry fees are so high, I might think differently.
[email protected] says
I remember that Katie and I played Sega in college at one point!
I have a feeling that I will love Parenthood if I keep watching it, I’ll give it a few more tries for sure!
Lesley says
There are certain roads in Dallas I hate driving on. Pot holes are popping up everywhere and I try to avoid them as much as possible. We still have a lot of leftover rain on the roads, so there’s no way to tell how deep a pot hole is.
[email protected] says
That sounds like how it is around here too! Very annoying!
Suzy says
I’ll have to check to see if we have Parenthood on Canadian Netflix and then we can compare notes! Hope the rest of your week goes by fast and you can get back into those pajamas! I LOVE leggings. They’re the best invention ever for comfy dressiness.
[email protected] says
Let me know if you start watching it! Yay for the weekend and pajamas/leggings!
Sarah @pickyrunner says
The commute to DC is the worst. I did it for about 4 months last year and it was exhausting. Now my boyfriend works there and he’s planning on moving closer because it’s too far to take the train every day. I’m bummed for you that you can’t run but at least you’ll have more time to heal! I keep meaning to get back into pinterest at night while I’m watching TV… but once i start, I’ll be sucked in so it’s probably better that I’m not.
[email protected] says
It was such a pain to get to DC! But I guess it went as smoothly as possible and could have been worse. But not sure how people do that everyday! I might try to cheer on the Shamrock 5k tomorrow- I would be around light and lee when you’re heading south! Good luck!
Lizzy says
I loved mariokart and sonic! I even downloaded them onto my laptop a few years ago so I could play them again. It was weird using the keyboard instead of a controller but you get used to it after awhile.
I’ve also been browsing pinterest for house ideas, but I’m afraid I’m one of those people who doesn’t quite “get it”. I guess I need to keep working at it.
[email protected] says
One of the kids I work with at school found some Mario and Sonic games on the computer! It was fun to see it again!
Sam @ Grapefruit & Granola says
Your post made me glad that I wear scrubs to work! I used to be a school dietitian and *hated* picking out my outfit every morning…. yoga pants for life 🙂
I was never much of a video game player when I was younger. My older brother played them but my younger sister and I usually did not join in on the fun. BUT my grandmother had a sega at her house and whenever we visited, my sister and I would play Sonic non-stop! We both were so awful because we never played video games. She actually still has the Sega at her house today. Good times 🙂
[email protected] says
I loved Sonic and even played a bit in college when my roommate brought her old Sega to our dorm! So fun:)
Wendy@Taking the Long Way Home says
So far I only have one shirt from a race I didn’t run. and yes, I wear it. I was ready for the race until I broke my foot. I even went and spectated. No shame.
[email protected] says
Makes sense..I think I would wear mine. Its a decent shirt but I have 2 others like it since I have done the same race before. Not sure if anyone would pay attention to the year anyway:)
Elizabeth says
I’m glad someone else feels like they’re playing mario kart while driving. The road I take to work has gotten AWFUL within the past week, and I keep having to swerve to miss them.
Last summer I signed up for a race picked up my bib and shirt and then the day before the race sprained my ankle so I couldn’t run. I still wear the shirt, it’s cute, I like it!
[email protected] says
I hate the swerving around potholes- makes me so nervous! I think Im with you on wearing the shirt- you paid and planned to run, so why not?
Marnie @ SuperSmartMama says
I’ve never watched Parenthood, which is a bit ironic, having a baby and a toddler, but maybe one day when I have more time. And favorite video game of the 90s? Definitely Mario Kart — it was one of the few games I could play when those complicated controllers came out — I’m not embarrassed to admit that I grew up with the Atari generation!
[email protected] says
You should give Parenthood a try! Im planning to watch a few more episodes because so far I like it and I think it will only get better.
Sue @ This Mama Runs for Cupcakes says
I loved every second of Parenthood. Give it another chance for sure!! The pot holes have been bad here as well, like really bad. Bummed I won’t get to meet you this weekend at RnR!
[email protected] says
Im so sad that I won’t be running today! There are so many people who I wanted to meet! And I won’t be coming to spectate because of the rain (and its a pain to get there and I already did that trip once this week…) Hopefully I will be back for another DC race soon. Good luck today!!
Jennifer says
I loved Parenthood, I hope you will like it as you watch more episodes. Hope it wasn’t too traffic-y coming into DC. I really like that they moved it to convention center, but it closes so early.
[email protected] says
The traffic wasn’t too bad- I drove to Glenmont metro and took that in to metro center. Seemed like a good set up too!
Hailey says
Haha yes to the e-card! For coaching, I’m just in workout clothes unless it’s a track meet day and for my other job I’m in a polo and khakis, and usually wearing my running shoes. Then the majority of the other time I’m in workout clothes too and people always say I look “dressed up,” even if I’m just wearing jeans and a little bit dressier shirt with different shoes.
I watched Parenthood when it was still on so I was so sad when it was over! I will say, the first few episodes were a bit slow to me as well, but in my opinion they got a whole lot better.
I like Donkey Kong, Sonic, and Mario Kart, and then there was some random one with like a bobcat I think it was that I liked too, but I can’t remember the name.
[email protected] says
Everyone has said to keep giving parenthood another try, so I will need to do that!
I was never really into Donkey Kong, but definitely Sonic and Mario!
Megan @ Meg Go Run says
Sure I would wear the shirt. IN fact, I have a shirt from a race I couldn’t do because I was injured. I’m actually glad I have it because it is short sleeved and I don’t have many of those. I have either long sleeved or tank tops. I don’t take myself too seriously so I don’t think it’s a big deal to wear the shirt. Now if someone asked me about it I would explain that I couldn’t run it, but great shirt! hehe
[email protected] says
Yea I agree, no shame in wearing it! Its not like you would lie about running it or something!
