I feel like I blinked and another week went by. While we started out the week with summer-like temperatures, by the end of the week fall had arrived.
Even though I love summer, running, I was ready for cooler temps at this point. However, now it’s that time when I always need to question what to wear for running. When it’s 70 degrees there’s no question. I just throw on shorts and a tank top. Anything below 60 degrees because questionable because of factors like sun, wind, etc. On Saturday it was 55 and sunny with a breeze. I debated wearing a t-shirt or long sleeves. I ended up wearing a light long-sleeved shirt, which felt good when I started. Once I warmed up and was running in the sun it felt like too much.
The things runners need to worry about, right?
Monday: 3.3 miles
Monday’s are tough, but running always makes them better! I realized it was the last week in September and I’m still running in tank tops. Of course, it’s pitch black out the entire time I’m running in the mornings now.
Tuesday: Strength training (Phase 3, Week 1, Day 1)
I started the next phase of my strength training plan and am loving it so far! Two of my favorite new exercises are step ups and DNS side planks. Both feel so effective!
Wednesday: 3.1 miles
It was so humid for this run. I didn’t check the weather but struggled the whole time. When I got home I realized it was 92% humidity and 70 degrees. Little did I know how much the temperature would drop before my next run!
Thursday: Strength training (Phase 3, Week 1, Day 2)
Another day of strength training. I used the stability ball for hamstring curls. My hammies were sore through Saturday! For some reason it’s hard for me to activate my hamstrings when I do certain exercises but this one seems to really isolate them.
Friday: 40 minutes spinning
I started my work day all of the way on the opposite side of the county from my gym, so I chose to use the spin bike for cross training. Just an easy 40 minutes to get the legs moving.
Saturday: 6 miles
By Saturday the busy week had caught up with me because I was exhausted. I even thought about moving my run until Sunday. I ended up heading out and was so glad I did. The weather was perfect and it did help to wake me up. (However, there was plenty of napping later in the day- I must have been more tired than I realized!)
A day off from workouts just catching up on things.
I’m excited that it’s a new month because I feel like I can try to put the craziness of September behind me and refocus. I also feel like I’m in a place with my running where I can either think about adding in another short run each week or verrryy slowly increase my weekend mileage just a bit. Or, I’ll just keep doing what I’m doing and appreciate every run!
Has fall arrived where you live?
Do you have a hard time deciding what to wear for running this time of year?
