Since today is Wednesday is only made sense to share what I have been eating for the Whole30 so far. While it’s not much different from what I usually eat, there are a few things that have been a little challenging already.
The first is that I’m trying to not rely on snacks as much. I seem to have been more hungry than usual for some reason and my snack options feel more limited. I used to have a LARABAR (which I still will eat when I need something on the go, but the only ones we have that are Whole30 compliant are cashew cookie). I also use to bake paleo muffins but those are out for now.
The other thing I have already missed is ketchup. I switched to organic a few months ago, but it still has added sugar it’s a no-go. I don’t use it nearly as much as I used to, but it was hard eating a burger and sweet potato fries without it. I’ve also missed “dessert” but not necessarily sugar. I think I’m more into anything baked even if it’s not sweet.
So, here’s what I have been eating this week:
Day 1 Breakfast:
(6:30 am and 7:30am)
Day 1 Snack 1:
(10:30 am)
Day 1 Lunch:
(12:00pm)
Day 1 Snack 2:
(3:00 pm)
Day 1 Snack 3:
(5:00 pm- before a 5:30 yoga class)
Day 1 Dinner:
(7:15 pm)
Day 1 Snack 4:
(8:30 pm)
Day 2 was pretty much the same with a few minor changes: added some leftover red potatoes with breakfast, had an apple instead of a pear, and no LARABAR but an earlier dinner.
Day 2 Dinner:
(6:15 pm)
I made these coconut crusted turkey burgers for dinner and they were a nice change and seemed more filling than regular burgers.
I’m happy to report that Rob has done well so far too although he did accidentally drink some Nuun on Tuesday. Typically we both only drink coffee (black) and water throughout the day. I think he also misses the baked stuff after dinner but I’m sure we will get out of that habit quickly. So far I’ve been ok without wine but it’s only day 2:)
Have you ever tried the Whole30?
What are some of your go to snacks (paleo or not)?
How are you doing so far with your New Year’s resolutions or this years goals?
I’m linking up with Jenn today! Thanks for hosting #WIAW!

Looks good! I still snacked 1-2 times per day while I did whole30 and I think it’s fine, I think the point of it is to plan filling meals and also only eat when you’re hungry, and for me that had to involve at least one snack at some point.
[email protected] says
I think I just want to move towards more filling meals and snacks if possible. Part of the challenge is finding things that I can bring with me to work!
meredith @ The Cookie ChRUNicles says
I would struggle with the nighttime snack thing too since it’s like the fourth meal for me…I have certain nut allergies (not severe like life threatening but uncomfortable enough) so I can’t eat most of the bars out there. I am not a big snacker though, more of a mini meal person so I tend to go for an apple with peanut butter. It works every time.
[email protected] says
I already miss peanut butter a little, but cashew butter has been a decent substitute!
Chrissy @Pink Polish and Running Shoes says
Day 1 lunch looks so good! How long does it take you to prep all your food in advance? That’s one thing I’ve been so lazy about these past few months.
[email protected] says
It usually take about an hour or two to do my meal prep….plus clean up time!
Sara @ Lake Shore Runner says
I can’t wait to follow your eating journey during the Whole30. That Turkey Burger sounds awesome, and I have added it to my list!
My go to snacks right now are apples and cracker and cheese [not Whole30 approved]. ha
[email protected] says
I ate a lot of cheese and crackers over the holidays! At least I can still eat apples…they are one of my favorite snacks!
Susie @ SuzLyfe says
I LOVE CHERRIES. I would be very sad without ketchup for burgers, though. Salsa might work, but not as sweet. I don’t think I could do Whole 30, unless they made an exception for ice cream, but I’m guessing not…
[email protected] says
Haha as far as I know no exceptions for ice cream!! I would really miss ice cream and fro yo if I were trying to do this over the summer.
AJ @ NutriFitMama says
I haven’t done the Whole30 before, but I love the idea of it for sure. I think those cherries look really good and now I think I must go get some. LOVE cherries!
[email protected] says
Me too! They just started having them in my grocery store again!
Lauren @ The Bikini Experiment says
I have not done the Whole30 plan before, but a lot of my meals and snacks are Paleo-style. Favorite snacks include fruit, nuts, Kind bars, Greek yogurt and almond flour muffins (if I have made them).
[email protected] says
I really like muffins with almond flour too! I also used to make almond butter muffins which are really good!
Brooke@runningonchange says
When I was on Whole 30 I recall being able to have the apple pie, blueberry pie, and coconut cream pie Larabars. They were essential for me when I was on the go and didn’t have time to stop for lunch.
[email protected] says
I will definitely need to look into getting some other larabars that are whole30 compliant!
Lesley says
There’s just something about burgers and sweet potato fries that makes me want to eat all the ketchup. I don’t eat ketchup outside of that meal.
[email protected] says
Yes burgers and fries just aren’t the same without ketchup!!
misszippy says
It all looks yummy to me! I find that eggs are so filling in the morning…really helps me make it though to lunch w/o snacks. Your fritatta looks fantastic!
[email protected] says
Thanks! I eat eggs every day now. There is no way I would stay full until lunch without them!
Amy @ Will Run For Ice Cream says
Could you share the recipe for your egg frittata? All of this looks so yummy. I’m really thinking I might look into the Whole30
[email protected] says
I pretty much followed this recipe: https://www.milebymileblog.com/veggie-bacon-egg-frittata/
Laura @ the gluten-free treadmill says
Looks like a delicious couple of days of eats! You are making Whole30 look very appealing!
[email protected] says
Thanks! So far its been going pretty well!
Laura @ This Runner's Recipes says
I’ve never done Whole30, but my husband and I eat quite a few Paleo-style meals per week. Roasted chicken, baked sweet potato fries, and roasted veggies is a current favorite meal of ours! My go-to snacks are apples or pears, almonds, celery with peanut butter, or Greek yogurt.
[email protected] says
That’s how we were eating before, too. Now we are just being more strict about it and cutting out all the stuff we were still doing like wine, peanut butter, and baked paleo treats.
Lacey@fairytalesandfitness says
All your food looks so good. But your snacks do not look very filling. If I ate those I’d just be hungry for something else. Guess that’s why they only call it a snack…..haha.
[email protected] says
True and I think that I need to work on bringing more filling snacks or eating more at my meals!
Suzy says
Oh, I am SO brutal in the snacks department. If I had it my way (nobody else to make meals for) I’d survive on snacks, all the snacks, and nothing but the snacks.
[email protected] says
Haha I have some days when all I want to eat is snacks! But this meal plan is helping me to focus more on the meals, so I guess thats a good thing!
Kelly @ The Fit Skool says
your food looks great!! Do you find yourself more hungry or thinking about food more during the day? When I did Paleo consistently I felt like I was always thinking about what I could eat next lol.
One of my favorite afternoon snacks became chicken salad with avocado & tomato in lettuce wraps!!
[email protected] says
I don’t notice that I am thinking about food more…except when I am hungry and don’t have any snacks with me! So Im working on bringing more food with me to work during the day, just in case.
That sounds like a delicious snack!
Leslie @ Life Begins at 30? says
I’m all about the Nature Box snacks. Right now, I am having some peppery pistachios and they are hitting the spot!
[email protected] says
I’ve never tried those but they sound really good!
Sam @ Grapefruit & Granola says
I have never done Whole 30 before but my favorite snacks are nuts and greek yogurt. For New Year’s, I decided to set a goal for myself each week. This week I’m focusing on drinking more water and so far I am doing pretty well.
[email protected] says
Thats a great goal! Keep it up!
Kristina says
Every time you post about your food I am always reminded of how little I vary my meals! I literally eat the same things over and over again even though I look at your blog and think, “oh i should make that!” I’m so lazy when it comes to meal prep!
[email protected] says
That’s funny because I always feel like I eat the same things too! Meal prep can be a lot of work but its definitely worth it!
Ashley @ A Lady Goes West says
I love to see what people are eating on Whole30. I’ve never tried it before and would like to take the challenge one day. I’d miss dessert, I’d miss wine, and I’d also miss protein powder! hehehe! You’ve done a great day with these eats. Keep it up:)
[email protected] says
I definitely miss wine, dessert and peanut butter already! But its a great challenge and Im glad I am finally doing it. I read about it last May but felt like there was never a good time.
Bethany says
Sounds like your on the right track! I would love to try it, although I feel like it would be really hard to give up dairy, especially greek yogurt!
[email protected] says
I thought it would be really hard to give up dairy but I cut back a lot when I started eating paleo last year, and it wasn’t as hard as I thought!
Giselle says
I’ve made those coconut crusted burgers before. So good! My one word of advice would be to add more greens and try to cut back on the fruit. I tried to do another round of the whole30 a few months back and kept too much fruit in my diet that I constantly continued to crave sugar and eventually caved…
[email protected] says
Thats a good tip. I’ve been sticking to 2-3 servings of fruit a day and trying to focus more on veggies, fats, and meat. I’m excited to look for some new things to try out next week!
Lauren @ ihadabiglunch says
You may have answered this before but when you eat almonds on the Whole30 diet do they have to be non-roasted? I’m curious because I love nuts but I like them to be salted/roasted but I know a lot of these kind of diets frown upon that. Thanks!
[email protected] says
I think its fine as long as any oil they are roasted in is approved!
Laura @ Mommy Run Fast says
I’m impressed- you’re off to a great start! I like to clean things up for a few weeks at a time and eat clean but I usually include oats and quinoa, as those don’t have a negative affect on me. The no sugar is so tough but it gets easier with practice!
[email protected] says
Thanks! I have never done any sort of no-added-sugar plan so this is a good experience for me!
