I ran 10 miles in Florida this morning and it was brutal.
It probably didn’t help that yesterday I had a couple of beers by the pool, some wine with dinner, and another glass while we stayed up playing “Mexican Train” last night.
Anyone ever played this before? I just learned it yesterday. It’s fun and addicting.
It was hotter today than the past 2 days, plus I did a hard workout yesterday so overall it was just a rough run today.
This was at the end of the run. It was about the same at the start.
You can’t see it in the picture but my clothes are completely dripping with sweat. You would have thought I just jumped in the pool.
But I got it done and now I can enjoy another day in the sun.
I thought I would leave you with some links to great posts I read this week. I think being on vacation has given me a lot more time to read and comment on blogs than I usually do during the week!
The Lyons’ Share: We All Need to Rest: An important reminder about how important it is to rest and recover! This couldn’t have come at a better time as I was getting ready for my own vacation!
Picky Runner: Graduation: It’s been longer than I like to admit since I graduated from college, so reading Sarah’s post made me think back to my own experience of graduating college and “finding myself”. It also made me realize how much things can change throughout your 20s, and I think that is such a good thing!
Meals for Miles: Plant-Based Diets (thoughts): I always find it interesting to read about nutrition and different ways of eating for athletic performance. No matter how you eat, there is always room for at least a little improvement, right?
Paleo Running Momma: How Many Miles Can You Handle?: A great post about recognizing our own limitations, making sure we recover properly, and understanding that ever runner is different!
SuzLyfe: Marathon Taper Advice: This is a great read for anyone dealing the with taper crazies the week before a big race! I remember before my first marathon I had no idea what to do with myself during the taper…I wish I had something like this to read at the time! And GOOD LUCK to Lauren (Salt) who is running her first marathon tomorrow!!!
What are some great posts you have come across lately?
How are you spending Memorial Day Weekend?
Do you spend more or less time blogging/reading blogs when you have time off from work?
Susie @ SuzLyfe says
Thank you so much for the shout out! I think that if you plopped me down in Florida conditions I would die right now, which as a born, bred, raised Georgian majorly messes with my confidence and might result in exile from the family.
And what is this Mexican Train business??

Haha its not easy adjusting to the heat when you’re not used to it!
Mexican train is a domino game…I guess its kind of similar to UNO it that its partly based on luck but you also have to strategies to get rid of as many dominoes as possible before another player gets out. It get interesting when there is drinking involved:)

Due to the brutal winter in Canada… I’m super happy for warmth! However, 76 sounds brutal ):
When I had my mini taste of freedom between end of my regular school semester and summer semester, I would spend all day working on blog posts and viewing other people’s blogs. Now that school has started up, I’m stuck with only a couple minutes a day of browsing ):

Yea I try not to complain about it being warm because its so much better than the cold! I also go through phases where I have time to blog and then hardly any time at all.

I always have extra time to read blogs on the weekend which is funny because far less people blog on the weekend.
I love the Mexican Train game – I think if it rains again tomorrow I will see if my boys want to play!

I also have more time for blogging stuff on the weekends…and it seems like no one else is blogging/commenting!

That humidity looks brutal! Temperatures can definitely be deceiving until you check the humidity. Hey, at least you got it done and can just focus on relaxing!
[email protected] says
Exactly! The humidity can feel way worse than the heat alone!

ahhh the humidity, seriously it’s the major reason I tell D i want to move 🙂

Thanks for the link! You must have felt pretty awesome after those 10 miles! I feel like I’ve been sort of complaining on my blog about how I feel crappy in heat/humidity but I seriously don’t know how people in Florida run at all! If I lived in Florida I’d have to take up swimming or yoga. Or pool running 🙂

I was saying the same thing to my husband yesterday! While I would love to live in Florida (it would be amazing in the winter months) I don’t think I would be able to train there in the summer. Pool running for sure! I would have to finally figure out how to actually do it:)

Great job on your run for it being so hot out. Ihave never heard of Mexican Train but I love playing games so I’m sure it’s fun. I read more blogs when I do have off bc while im at work I’m usually so busy on the road. I have nothing planned for memorial wkend. I have to work so it’ll be uneventful. Have a great weekend!

Thanks! I also read blogs more when I’m off from work. Hope you had a great weekend, also!

I definitely take longer to catch up on reading and commenting on posts when I’m swamped with work. If I’m having a relaxing weekend and just family time, I’m usually very up to date but weekends like this last one when I’m trying to get a huge chunk of work done, I pretty much ignore all outside distractions and try to catch up over breakfast the next few days. I’m prone to procrastination so it’s the only way to police myself 😉 What is the Mexican Train game?
[email protected] says
I always find it harder to catch up when I fall behind a few days!

I absolutely love the name of this blog! You crack me up, and Mexican train is an awesome game especially while drinking wine with friends!

Haha thank you! And I love your blog name as well! Running and wine are the best…and Mexican train too:)
