Fall Blog Post Round-Up

Happy first day of fall! Well, I guess it’s happy if you like fall. I’m not totally ready for cooler weather but I don’t mind September when it’s still on the warmer side. I tend to write about fall alot on here so I thought I would share a round-up of 5 fall blog posts I have shared over the last few years.

I tend to write about fall quite a bit. Here is a round up of my past blog posts all about fall: gear, races, running tips, and more!

Fall Blog Post Round-Up

Gear and Accessories I’m Loving for Fall Running: Looking for some fall running gear? Last year I shared some of my favorite fall items including clothes, gloves, headbands, and more.

Fall Running Tips: It’s always helpful to get a reminder about transitioning to running in the cooler weather!

5 Things to Love about Fall: I never look forward to fall because it’s followed by winter, but usually it is a great time of year as the weather finally cools down!

Fall Should Mean Marathon Training?  Last year was the first time in 6 years that I didn’t have a fall race. I guess this is year 2 without training for something. Maybe 2018 will be the year I get back to it?

Fall Feelings:  Every year I have mixed feelings about fall. There are definitely some things about fall that make me happy and others that make me sad to say goodbye to summer

I hope that we have some nice running weather over the next few months. And for those of you who have big races this season, I hope the weather works in your favor! Train in the summer heat for cooler fall races, right?

I do like running in the cooler temps of fall! We haven’t had much of that yet, but hopefully we’ll have a few before the temps plummet!

Agreed! I feel like we had a little taste of fall running weather but nothing below 55 yet. Id like some high 40s/low 50s before we need to start bundling up in layers.

I have mixed feelings about fall too! I like that it is an extension of summer but I don’t look forward to what comes after!

Exactly! I think if we could skip winter (or at leas the months of Jan/Feb) then I wouldn’t mind fall quite so much!

For me, fall running clothes are the same as summer running clothes, just with a shirt on instead of just a sports bra! I don’t wear capris… it’s either shorts or thick tights. I’ll wear my shorts when it’s like 40 degrees, but with long sleeves, a vest, gloves, and ear warmers haha! As long as my hands, head, and core are warm, I’m fine if my legs are flying free.

This weekend I am going to a couple wineries with friends. I’m excited to be outside in the “fall” weather… the real feel is going to be 94!

It’s always funny to plan fall activities and then realize its going to be hot and you need to wear summer clothes lol! I used to wear shorts for much cooler temps than I do now. I think Ive just learned to appreciate capris.

I also have mixed feelings about fall. If only the dreaded winter didn’t follow, right? This is my first year with not much for races happening…in a way it’s kind of nice to not have all that busy-ness, but it’s very foreign from what I know.

One of my favorite parts about fall is racing, so its strange to not be doing that! But hey, at least we’re back to running, right?

Fall is a great time to buy new gear for sure. I also get some mixed feelings as the years roll by as well now that you mention it. Fall views can’t be beat though

Oh yes the fall colors are the best! When the weather cooperates its such a great time of year to be outside.

I love the cooler temps and I feel like I run lighter. I didn’t have a fall race either last year, but I have Vegas this year, and I’m thinking about the MCM 10k next fall. Spring on the other hand is wide open, and I don’t know if I’ll do a race yet.

I love fall – it’s my favorite season. I really don’t like being too hot/the humid Boston weather! And I like both fall running clothes and fall regular clothes the best 🙂

Hope you have a great weekend, girl!

Fall clothes are great! Ive started breaking out some of my fall clothes even though it still feels like summer outside.

I love fall! Even though it means the approaching and inevitable start of rainy season, I love the cool temperatures, sunny skies, and colorful leaves. I’ll wear shorts until it’s 40, but I like being able to break out my arm warmers and long sleeve shirts.

I think ideal running weather is right around 50 degrees when you can still wear shorts, with a long sleeve top or arm sleeves!

It’s always funny when it is technically fall but still so hot out. I’m sure the temps will start to cool off soon!

Would it even be race week if I wasn’t a ball of n Would it even be race week if I wasn’t a ball of nerves and not able to sleep? This is my first big marathon in 10 years, my first time traveling to a race in 10 years, and my first time spending the night away from my kids. And of course I’m tapering so I can’t run off the nerves 🙃 #marathontraining #taper #richmondmarathon
Looked like fall, felt like summer 🍁 I was definit Looked like fall, felt like summer 🍁 I was definitely overdressed for this run but it was nice to not wear gloves or a headband! This was the run I needed a week before my marathon. After last week’s disaster of a long run it felt great to just run an easy 10 miles. (And these days 10 miles feels like nothing). I think I figured out the fueling and shoes 🤞so nothing left to do but take it easy, carb load, and get in the right mindset! Is it unseasonably warm where you are?

#running #marathontraining #longrun
Yesterday’s long run was not what I wanted it to b Yesterday’s long run was not what I wanted it to be. The plan was to take the day off from work, head to the trail where I could run 10 uninterrupted miles at MP (16 total) and practice my race day fueling while wearing my race day shoes.

What actually happened? All week I was stressed about this run and the condition of the trail. We had lots of rain on Thursday, and Friday was forecasted to be very windy. I tried to get in the best mindset possible, reminding myself that I won’t be able to control the conditions on race day. Meanwhile, I haven’t been sleeping well thanks to my 2 year old waking up every night, and my watch has been basically telling me that I’m losing all my fitness and need a week of recovery.

While I started the run feeling pretty good, after 11 miles (7 at MP) my stomach turned and I almost got sick on the side of the trail. I just couldn’t recover from that. The best I could do was run the rest of the miles easy, and needed some walk breaks. On top of that, my shoe kept rubbing my foot on top and I stopped twice to retie it. This has never happened before and now I’m questioning what shoes I should wear for the race. The trail was also in rough condition with several trees blocking it, lots of wet leaves, and rocks/sticks that I had to look out for.

I just can’t believe how bad I felt for the last 5 miles of this run and I can’t pinpoint the cause. Am I overdoing it with the fueling and can’t handle it on harder effort runs? Was it something I ate recently? The hard part is there’s no time to really try something different before the race, as all I have left is a 10 mile easy run next weekend.

I’m trying to remember that one bad run does not take away from all the good runs this training cycle. I’m using today to reset and move on so I can make the most of my last 2 weeks of training. It’s not the way I wanted my last big long run to go, but I suppose it was good practice for pushing through even when I felt pretty awful.

Who else has had a terrible long run close to your race?

#running #marathontraining #longrun
Spent almost every step of this 21 mile run questi Spent almost every step of this 21 mile run questioning my life choices. Like waking up at 3am to run 12 miles on the treadmill and 9 outside. This was a crazy week with a kid that wasn’t sleeping great and fighting a cold and super busy days at work. My legs were just tired the whole time today. It was really hard to run outside after so many treadmill miles and my pace was much slower than inside.

I reminded myself that this is peak week. It’s supposed to feel hard. If it was easy everyone would do it. I ran 53 miles this week and am not injured. The weather is perfect. I’ve gotten in every planned run of this training cycle so far. I get to do this.

And I managed to finish strong with my last 3 miles the fastest of the (outside) run. I owe that to a solid fueling plan and taking all my gels even when I really didn’t want to.

3 weeks to go until race day!
