I have felt like I recovered pretty quickly from the marathon, and besides the fall leading to a broken finger, fall running has been great! I have been running 4-7 miles during the week and my long run this Saturday was 11 miles. I am planning to do 12-13 next weekend, and then taper for the Annapolis Half Marathon on November 23rd.
Its definitely been getting colder out, but once I get going its great running weather.
Friday morning was pretty cold. It was the first time I had to break out my running capris this season.
I have started using the McMillan running DVDs that I got for my birthday. I have completed the Runner’s Core stage 1 DVD enough times to move onto stage 2 this week. I have also started adding running drills after watching the “Drills for Distance Runners” DVD, also by McMillan running. I actually really feel like my core is getting stronger. Its hard to tell if the drills are making a difference in my running, but they are easy to incorporate into every run. Its recommended to complete them either after an easy run or before a tough workout (but after warming up by jogging for 10-30 minutes). On Friday I completed them after my easy run by the harbor while watching the sun rise.
On Saturday’s long run, I started out with 3 easy miles. I stopped and completed the drills. Then I started a workout of 5 minutes hard, 2 minutes easy, and repeated 7 times. This brought me to about 9 miles and then I ran the last 2 at a steady pace for 11 miles total. The 5/2 workout helped to break up the run and made it go by faster.
How was your week in running?
Has it been getting cold where you are?
Do you incorporate running drills into your workouts?
It’s gotten chilly at night and early mornings around here but it’s still in the 60’s during most of the day so pretty perfect 🙂
Have a great week!
That’s similar to what it has been like for me too. I’m trying to just enjoy these temps because I know winter will be here before we know it!
Yes, enjoy it while we can! 🙂
