This summer sure if flying by! Somehow it’s the last Friday in July and August is right around the corner. You know what that means, right? It’s time for this month’s Runfessions!
1) I guess I should start out by saying that I’ve fallen way behind with reading blogs lately. After being away twice within two weeks, I sort of unplugged for a bit which was nice. It wasn’t intentional so when I came back and had missed about a week of blog posts, I just didn’t have it in me to read them all. Maybe I’ll catch up, maybe I won’t. Summer is a good time to take a step back anyway!
2) Let’s talk about running, since this is a runfessions post after all. As you may know I’ve been away quite a bit this month. You know what I noticed? I really like to run when I’m away. Maybe it’s the change in scenery, or flat terrain, or having more time, but I have pretty much run every day that I’ve been away this month. The only problem is my routine gets all thrown off and it’s a little harder to fit in my strength training, cross training, and yoga!
3) Speaking of running on vacation, somehow everywhere I have traveled lately (the Eastern Shore, Florida, and the Jersey Shore) has been flat as a pancake. I feel somewhat speedy (for me these days) when I run, but it makes coming back to Baltimore so much harder!
4) I think I may have figured out why running hills has been so tough for me lately. Well, tougher than usual. I feel like running while pregnant is like you are always running on a slight incline. So any extra incline is just too much!
5) Even though I could avoid hills altogether by running on the treadmill, I just haven’t been feeling it lately. Even though it’s been hot and humid I’ve still been enjoying my outdoor runs. (If only I could remember to wear body glide every day…) Once in a while I will walk on the treadmill, but that’s been about it. It’s always good to know it’s there as an option though!
I hope to be back to my usual schedule next week, although I can’t make any promises. It feels good to be back home for now and to have a few travel-free weekends ahead of me!

Do you ever unplug and take a break from blogging?
Do you run more or less when you are on vacation?
If you have run while pregnant, would you agree it sort of feels like you are always running on an incline?
I’m linking up with Fairytales and Fitness and Running on Happy for the Friday Five 2.0 and Marcia’s Healthy Slice for Runfessions!

Oh gosh yes, running pregnant was a chore for me. So, so taxing. I typically take blogging breaks when I’m on vacay. The blog sat dormant for 3 weeks last summer. It’s good to unplug sometimes. Thanks for linking!

It feels weird to not blog (and it can be really hard to get caught up!) but its definitely good to take a break once in awhile.

I end up running less on vacation. I think it’s because I’m staying up later and typically have an adult beverage or two which I don’t like doing before morning runs. Sometimes that’s good for the body though and I never lose fitness or anything.
I hoped you enjoyed the Jersey Shore! Hopefully the rain here this week didn’t ruin your beach time.
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
We lucked out with the weather! There was only rain on the day I got there and the day I left, so I was able to get in 3 pool/beach days.

Running while traveling is always a fun way to see the town you are in. I did not run back when I was pregnant but we have so many moms in our group that do. Definitely challenging! Weeks that I travel, I do step back a bit from blogging but still keeping up my schedule of posting
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
Sometimes before I travel I am organized enough to have posts written ahead of time, but this month I was just too busy to do that! It was kind of nice to not really open my laptop while I was away.

I’ll be unplugging a bit next week. I’ve got a crazy hectic week planned. I have to do WW, but I’m not sure about coffee talk. I’m going to try.
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
I think this is the first WW I’ve missed in like a year or so! I just didn’t have it in me to pull out the laptop and write a post.
Susie @ Suzlyfe says
Just wait until you start stroller running 😀
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
I’m actually debating if I should even register for a jogging stroller because it just sounds SO hard. I feel like I’m going to end up opting for the treadmill rather than pushing the stroller. But we’ll see.

Sometimes it’s nice to unplug. Sometimes it always feels like we are on our phones or computers!
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
Yes! It was weird to not do any blogging but it also felt nice to take a break.
Debbie @ Deb Runs says
My sons are 30 and 28 and even though I ran during both pregnancies, that was too long ago to remember. LOL
I unplug way too infrequently…
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
Even though it feels hard to run, it’s still enjoyable so I think that outweighs everything else!
Kimberly Hatting says
I usually take blogging breaks if I’m on vacation because it’s just too demanding trying to do all the vacation things AND read/comment/reply in a timely fashion. Besides, I think we all have lives outside of blogging…it’s okay to live them 😉
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
Yes! It’s really the reading/commenting/replying that takes up the time…not so much just getting a post up.

I really like to run on vacation too. Obviously. It’s definitely easier when you’re away from obligations! I do tend to write up a bunch of blogs in advance, and since my husband is not a morning person, I usually have time to catch up on blogs — more time than at home, frankly — even when I run!
But boy oh boy do I hear you on the cross training, etc. I’ve had the exact same problem!
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
It’s nice to have more time to run while away! I think after my runs I was just so ready to get down to the beach or pool that I didn’t feel like opening up my laptop.
Chocolaterunsjudy says
I was usually done with my run early, and the mornings were cool, so no pool. 🙂
I would have liked to swim later, but I can swim anytime — I can’t hike in mountains anytime!
