You may think I am one of the weirdest bloggers ever for this, but until today I have not told anyone in “real life” about my blog except for Rob (who doesn’t even remember to read it:)). At first, I didn’t tell anyone because I wanted to get used to blogging and develop a blog I could feel proud to share. Then it became weird- like, how do I start telling people I have a blog? I didn’t necessarily try to hide it, but I also didn’t share it with anyone personally. If they happened to google something and it came up, I figured that would be an easy way to start telling people.
Well now its been 10 months and as I am about to get started with running coaching I decided its time to share this with my family and friends. And do you know that many of the people I am closest to have June birthdays? Consider this your birthday gift. I know, you’re welcome. Just kidding, I mean after all this “hiding” you all are probably not even all that interested in reading my running rambles, anyway.
So let’s start with Alli, who’s birthday was June 10th.
Alli and I met when we both hitched a ride to Cornell during sophomore year of college. You learn a lot about someone after sitting in a car with them for 6 hours. Alli used to blog and I think she should start again! She is kind enough to host me at her parent’s house in Cape Cod next weekend during my RRCA coaching training!
Today is my college friend/roommate/post-college roommate Katie’s birthday. (Happy Birthday!) I made her this fancy collage to post of facebook because we have so many pictures together.
We met on day 1 of college. She also had a blog once upon a time, and I think she should also go back to blogging. I remember when Alli and Katie had blogs and I didn’t, and they were all like “come blog with us!” and I was like no…and now here we are.
Tomorrow is my sister, Katie’s birthday.
Fun Fact: 3 out of my 6 bridesmaids were named “Katie”.
Unfortunately, Katie #3’s birthday is in July. So close!
For my sister’s birthday I got her this card:
I think out of everyone she will be the most surprised/confused/excited/angry that I have been blogging for this long and not telling her. Well now that you are off for the summer you can spend your days reading all the posts you missed (she just finished her first year as a teacher.) Perfect timing, right? Don’t worry, I already told everyone how you made me fall and break my finger🙂
My dad’s birthday is Tuesday. And Father’s Day was last weekend. And my dad is not easy to buy for. But he is an amazing photographer, and I’m wondering if he would like to start taking all the pictures for my blog?
So Happy Birthday to all of you! I am sorry for being sneaky. I hope you come back and visit again and I also hope no one is mad at me for putting their picture all over the internet.
And in case you came here to read about running …today I hit to 1,000 mile mark for the year! I am trying to do “Run this year” and run 2014 miles in 2014, but I am a little behind so I’ll have to see how I feel as the year goes on.
Bloggers: Did you ever keep your blog a secret from people you know in “real life”?
Who else has a June birthday?
How many miles have you run this year? (If you keep track)
*Today is the last day to enter my Matcha Powder giveway!

I love the blog coming out post! For me I announced it right off the bat, because that would get pretty weird to keep it a secret and then have people find out. Plus it was a way for me to “explain” my running and lifestyle to people who were curious. I’ve had several people, both friends and family, either relate to what they read or tell me how much better they know me after reading it.
My husband also does not keep up with my blog!

Thanks! That was probably smart of you to share it right away.
I guess our husbands figure they see us every day, no need to read our blogs, right?

I kept my blog a “secret” for a while, but in different degrees. I waited a few days before I told my husband. I told my mom a few days after that, but I didn’t tell her the url, I didn’t discuss it really otherwise, and not until I started really using my facebook to boost it did I start to open up about it. I’m to the point that I will openly discuss it, will drop that I have one, but if people don’t want to talk about, or don’t pry, I don’t either! Kind of like how I approach discussing my chronic illness or running–they are very much a part of my life, but I don’t lord them over people.
Have fun celebrating! Love all the pics!

Your strategy makes sense! I finally set a up a facebook page, so now I feel like I can tell people that if they want to see updates, they can like it, if not, they can not read or check at their own leisure. I mean, blogs are our own personal creative outlet, and just because we are sharing our interests and experiences doesn’t mean others will care about that stuff when it comes to running, eating, etc.

Since it was my birthday last night and I got drunk (whoops) I forgot you told me that you had a blog until right now. Holy moly you have giveaways!!! What on earth is happening???!!! Not only do you have a blog, you have people reading and commenting and giveaways!!! This is an outrage and I love it. Thank you for this birthday present.

I know! Like who am I? I’ve only done 2 giveaways so far though. I am also shocked that people actually read and comment:) I’ve actually connected with so many great bloggers who are also obsessed with running, so its been fun!
I’m glad you got drunk last night! Hope you had a great birthday!

My boyfriend and my family know about my blog, but I haven’t told any of my friends about it yet. I probably will soon now that I’ve been up and running for a while.

I would recommend telling them sooner rather than later! The longer you wait, the harder it is to break the news:)

Funny you should mention this…a couple of weeks ago I wrote about my school 5k. Well, I posted the link on a facebook group for race recaps that USED to be private. Apparently they changed the settings to public. Surprise! Everyone found out I had a blog! So, you are not alone!

Haha well that’s one way to share it with the world! I guess it has to come out sometime, right? I was really surprised that I went as long as I did without “accidentally” sharing it somewhere that people I know would see.
