Do you know that as I titled this post I almost wrote “August” instead of “September”? I truly do not know where September went. Good thing I have a blog to look back at what happened this month.

Summary of September:
The month started out with a trip to Hawaii. I was away for about a week and a half, and during that time I posted a couple of throwback posts (Letting Go Of Control and Balancing Training and Life). I had some amazing runs while I was away, but then returned and had a rough week where my foot flared up pretty badly. After an adjustment at my chiropractor and seeing my PT I started feeling much better.
Throughout this process it became more clear to my how my hypermobile joints can lead to injury. I continued to focus on increasing my strength and stability.
Less than 2 weeks after returning from Hawaii, I was off to San Diego for work. By the time I got back fall had arrived, and I was once again tired and jet lagged.

FITNESS GOALS:
Continue to work on staying strong and healthy After another setback this month, I came to terms with how much work I will need to put into staying healthy, specifically by focusing on core and hip stability.
Run/Walk 2016 miles I have completely stopped tracking this, due to my injury and no longer wearing my Garmin Vivofit.
Work towards a BQ While a marathon won’t be happening this year, I need to keep my bigger goals in mind when things get tough.
Work towards sub 1:40 half I am signed up for the Annapolis half on November 19th (you can save 10% using the code RUNNINGOUTOFWINE16!) but I probably won’t be running it.
Do at least 10 push-ups 3 days per week I don’t think I kept up with this during September. I did do push-ups in Hawaii because I had limited workout equipment. I just feel like my workout schedule has been all over the place so I didn’t always remember to keep up with the push-ups.
OTHER GOALS:
Improve posture This was a bad month for posture with sitting on planes for way too many hours. Time to refocus on this.
Move more Again, the plane thing was not ideal. I tried to stay somewhat active on vacation but there was also alot of time spent lounging on the beach.
Focus on saving money I spent more money than I would have liked on travel related stuff this month, but less on things like weekly groceries, so it all sort of evened out in the end.
Get back in the habit of weekly meal prep I definitely skipped a few weeks of this in September!
Make time to unplug I definitely unplugged alot when I was in Hawaii, but made up for lost time when I got back.

How did you do with your goals during September?
What are you looking forward to in October?
meredith @ cookie chrunicles says
I am in shock too that September has come and gone! October is a big month for us but as much as I am crazy excited for the bar mitzvah, it will be nice when it’s over to return to normal life. I have been planning for so long that I don’t remember life without the planning! lol
Lisa @ Running Out Of Wine says
I am sure it will be weird once its over and you no longer have to worry about all the planning!
Susie @ Suzlyfe says
I am spending way too much money right now (but then, what else is new). September was really busy for Alex and myself in different ways, and this month will be no different. We have 2 weddings on back to back weekends, and while on the one hand I know they will be fun, on the other hand, I just want them to be done!
Lisa @ Running Out Of Wine says
The weddings are fun but also exhausting! Im glad that I have a break from them for now.

September was such an in-between month for me. For much of the month I had stopped training for Chicago and was waiting for Miami training to begin so it was lower mileage on the running front. Also we had signed the contract for our house in August but aren’t closing until next week, so it was an in between month for the townhouse as well. I’m happy October is here! (I just typed “I’m happy August is here” so I’m a little bit all over the place, haha)!
Lisa @ Running Out Of Wine says
Haha we are both very confused about what month it is!
Wendy@Taking the Long Way Home says
I’m pretty happy with where my running was in September! I’m running mostly pain-free and I’ve been trying to run conservatively. Off the road, my oldest gave me some trouble and I’ve trying to manage my anxiety about that. Right now that will be my biggest challenge.
I’m looking forward to spectating the Chicago Marathon this weekend! I know so many people running it this year, it’s going to be so fun!
Lisa @ Running Out Of Wine says
That should be so fun to spectate Chicago! Glad your running has been going well lately! Hopefully everything else will settle down soon.
Hilary @ Embrace the Neon says
I’m so sorry to hear your foot was acting up! Hope October brings pain-free runs! I’ve been sticking to short distances – mostly for stress relief and to make sure I can fit into my wedding dress, lol. But looking forward to getting back into training after the wedding/honeymoon/birthday whirlwind!
Lisa @ Running Out Of Wine says
I’m sure its good to be able to just run for fun while all the wedding planning is going on. Its a great stress reliever! But I’m sure it will also be nice to get back into training.
Sarah @ BucketListTummy says
September flew by for me, too! Travel makes it really difficult for me with exercise, meal prep, etc. It throws us out of routine. I’m looking forward to more cooler weather in October!
Lisa @ Running Out Of Wine says
Travel really messes things up, especially when you lose the weekend. Hopefully October will be relaxing!
Lesley says
I lost track of September with a lot going on too. We have a staff meeting at work, and I got the invite last week, I couldn’t help thinking why were we planning so far ahead? Oops. October definitely snuck up on me.
Lisa @ Running Out Of Wine says
It definitely snuck up on me as well!
Suzy says
The best thing about my blog is that I get to keep track of exactly where all these months and years have been going! It’s neat to read back and see photos and be like oh yaaaa! That’s what we were up to! Anyway, your September was SO BUSY hey? It flew. I hope your October is a little more chill with some more pain free running.
Lisa @ Running Out Of Wine says
Thanks, I hope so too!

I am not looking forward to my plane ride to Chicago this wkend. Hopefully there will be no delays. I have tried to track my 2,016 miles as well for the yr. But have not been successful w that either.
Lisa @ Running Out Of Wine says
I hope you have no issues getting to Chicago!
Laura @ This Runner's Recipes says
September did fly by so quickly! I feel like I’m having to readjust my body after two long flights and way too much time sitting. Budgeting certainly went out the window for me a bit in October, but it’s always worth it for travel and connections with others!
Lisa @ Running Out Of Wine says
Those long flights are so rough! I hope you are starting to feel back to normal.
Denise says
I also cannot believe that September flew right by. I don’t even know what I did this month. I am looking forward to October–such a lovely month with the temperatures cooling down, the leaves changing, and fall clothes! For some reason I have way more fall/winter clothes than summer clothes, so it’s nice to move into a season where I don’t feel like I’m wearing the same outfit week after week. 🙂
Lisa @ Running Out Of Wine says
I am also excited to wear fall clothes! Cooler weather is great too.
Kristy from Southern In Law says
I’m am glad your PT is helping and you’re feeling better! I think I need to make more time to unplug in October too!
Lisa @ Running Out Of Wine says
Thanks! It’s tough to unplug but so important!

I read your post about your joints and I am not sure if I commented…sometimes I get distracted by something and forget to go back and do that. Anyway, my son’s girlfriend has that problem and she gets injured all the time it seems and she doesn’t do impact stuff.
You have been working hard, i hope you can find a balance that works for you. I stopped tracking my miles too, I had three months off.
Sept. went okay for me, Oct. I looked forward to ending this training cycle lol I need to focus more on upper body and push ups myself.
Lisa @ Running Out Of Wine says
Thats interesting about your son’s girlfriend. It seems like there are different degrees of how bad it is and that will impact how much you can do. Considering I have had years of injury free running I think I can get back to that if I work hard enough. It definitely is all about finding the right balance!
