It’s been a weird fall so far! First, it felt like summer lingered forever. Then fall came and we had some really chilly days. Last week the temperatures went up into the 70s again making for some warm runs! We also had rain and wind this week. I think we have had all the seasons at some point over the last 2 weeks.
For the most part fall running has been great. Actually, in general running has been great. What I’ve realized about running while pregnant is you really just never know what to expect. One day may be a struggle, and then the next feels a million times better. Each time I have a harder run (or even 2-3 days of feeling like everything is a struggle), it doesn’t last. Just when I think I will really need to cut back on exercise I then get a new burst of energy and feel fine again for a while.
Hopefully I’m not jinxing myself. I know I won’t be able to keep this up forever but it’s working for now. I also shared on Instagram this week that my paces vary so much. It’s nice to truly not care at all about my paces but it’s also interesting to see them after a run. The fastest run I’ve had in the past few weeks was around 9:50/mile and the slowest was around 11:25/mile. Those 11 minute miles always feel harder than 9 minute miles!
Here’s a quick look at last week’s workouts:
Monday: 4 miles + Strength Training
Tuesday: 6 miles
Wednesday: 4 miles + Strength Training
Thursday: 7 miles
Friday: 5 miles
Saturday: 6 miles
Sunday: Rest
Total: 32 miles (during week 32! I thought that was kind of cool when I realized it)
It’s a good thing the weather has ben all over the place because it means I can rotate through my running clothes a little more. I only have 1 pair of capris that fit so I’ve worn them whenever its been below 40 degrees. Otherwise I’ve still been able to squeeze into my regular shorts, I guess because they have thick waistbands and can sit below my belly.
At least I’m not sweating as much lately so I can even get away with wearing certain items more than once without washing them if I need to!

How has fall running treated you so far?
Do you like when the temps fluctuate or would you prefer if they were consistent?
How much do your paces vary from one run to the next?
Linking up with Holly and Wendy for the Weekly Wrap!
It looks like you’re going to be one of those women who is able to run right up to delivery! That is so awesome and I’m sure running helps you feel better than you would without it. Our weather seems a little more consistent than yours. We haven’t seen 70 in awhile but I’m happy when it gets to the high 50s.
I hope to continue running, but you never know! As much as 70 degrees seemed nice, it was very uncomfortable when the heat is on everywhere at work!
I completely agree that fall running has been weird the past few weeks. One day it’s 70 then it’s back to 50 which makes dressing so hard!
Yes, so strange and I never know what to wear!
You are so right that each day/pace/run can be so variable! Your body is experiencing so much right now – so exciting, you’re almost there! 🙂
It’s amazing how much things can change from one day to the next!
It’s great that you are still able to run — and enjoy it! LOL on being able to wear certain items more than once. Sometimes that ONE shirt is just perfect for the weather two days in a row. That said, our weather has been up and down too. 50s today, 70s tomorrow. 🙂
I really can’t keep up with this weather! No shame in wearing the same running shirt more than once in a row, right?
It’s definitely been a very crazy Fall, but I feel like last years was similar because the heat was just relentless!
I think that its amazing that you have been able to run throughout your whole pregnancy so far. You’re a rockstar!
That’s true- I remember it being in the 80s for a race in late October last year!
I definitely would like consistency in temps. It’s easier when it comes to clothes and knowing what I’ll need to wear. It may be quite chilly for my 5k in two weeks, and I have no idea how many layers I’ll need, and what would be too much.
It’s tough to plan for a race when you can’t really test out a race outfit!
You do have to be prepared for any kind of weather this time of year, right? Glad to see that you are still running well. Heck, my paces are all over the place and I have no excuse! Nice work.
It’s really been quite a fall with the weather we have had. But I’m still enjoying it more than the relentless humidity of the summer!
That is some awesome mileage for the week that far along. Fall running has not been too bad for me lately. I have been lucking out and it has been feeling like summer during my layover places.
I bet it’s nice to be able to run in so many different places! Glad you are lucking out with the weather.
Yeah, a belly shot! Looks good on you 🙂 The weather has been crazy. Last weekend it just rained forever, but luckily this past weekend was nice so we could fit another camping trip in. I too have been bouncing around between shorts and even tights!
We had a nice weekend too but now we are paying for it with lots and lots of rain:(
It is cool that you ran 32 miles in your 32nd week! I don’t know if I’d be able to run while pregnant. I’m not good with being uncomfortable. I actually morph into a two year old and get really bitchy haha.
I really would prefer consistently cooler temps! I’m done with summer in the south. We had hot temps all the way through October and only in the last weekend got down to cool temps. I’d like those to stay- I run much better in the cool weather.
Haha, I wouldn’t even say that running while pregnant (for me) is that uncomfortable. Just harder than regular running! I hope your weather cools off for good soon!
32 weeks and still running? I think you’ll make it right up to your delivery! Our weather has been so wacky. So much rain and gray. I feel like we are in Seattle. One of my favorite things about fall is the bluebird sky, chilly days. We haven’t had much of those. Boo!
I totally agree about those nice, sunny, fall days! I feel like we have definitely missed out on those this year!
So glad you are able to take advantage of fall running… and at this point of your pregnancy, it’s all about what makes you feel good!
Yes exactly!
Absolutely on the rotation – refuse to break out the full t ights yet but I have had to go long sleeved on a couple three occasions.
32 miles/weeks sounds like you should go play lotto 😀
I’ve definitely been wearing long sleeves for most runs lately, and either shorts or capris. But many days I end up warm by the end of my run!
