This was the first week that I really felt like I was making progress with my return to running. It definitely helped that we had perfect running weather throughout most of the week. I feel bad to even say that, knowing what other states are dealing with right now. I hope everyone in Irma’s path has evacuated or is safely enduring the storm. My in-laws have a house and boat in Cape Coral so we are waiting to hear about the shape of everything in a few days.
I wanted to take advantage of the good weather and run outside this week rather than on the treadmill. All of a sudden it’s dark in the mornings again- how did that happen? Most days I ran at around 5:30 am and the sun was starting to rise at 6:00 when I was finishing up, so that was nice to see.
Other than that, I did week 6 of my strength training plan and got in the pool for some swimming and pool running. I don’t want to admit how long it’s been since I did that.
Monday: Strength training and walk
It was Labor Day so I was off from work. After completing my strength training workout I drank a smoothie and then went outside for a 30 minute walk.
Tuesday: 2.4 mile run/walk
This was my first headlamp run of the fall! When I run outside I’m not as good about following specific times for run/walk intervals, I just do what feels right. I think most of these intervals were about 3-5 minutes of running with 1-2 minutes of walking.
Wednesday: Strength training
Last strength training workout of phase 2!
Thursday: 2.3 mile run/walk
Another great morning for running outside. At one point I ran a full mile without stopping. It’s crazy that these days this is an accomplishment. I’ve just been really focusing on my form and take walk breaks when I start losing form.
Friday: 45 minutes swimming/pool running
I finally got back in the pool after way too much time off. It wasn’t that bad. I had the pool to myself which is always nice.
Saturday: 3.2 miles
I actually felt like my self again on this run! I did a little more running and less walking than my other runs and felt great the whole time. My ankle was a little sore later in the day, but it seemed like it was just adjusting to running again and felt great the next day.
To celebrate my return to running we went beer tasting in the afternoon at Union Craft Brewery. For the first round they gave us small sample beers, but when we went up for the second round they gave us full pints. I forgot to take a picture until they were almost gone!
It was a lazy day of blogging, doing some work-related reading, and enjoying some of the beer we got from the brewery out on the deck.
I’ve been knocking on lots of wood about the progress I’ve made with running this week. It feels like every time I have a few good runs, I’m then hit with a setback. So please keep your fingers cross for me!
