Weekly Recap and the Return of Humidity

I am so glad that I didn’t sign up for the Maryland Half Marathon, which was today. I haven’t felt at all like I was ready to race, and there was no reason to push it. Last year this race was on the first humid day of the season. The same went for today. After maybe 2-3 weeks of nice spring weather, I went outside  this morning to that all-too-familiar feeling of getting hit in the face with thick, humid air. The temp was about 66 degrees, but I started sweating immediately.

I made it 11.5 miles and was super gross by the end. Do you know the feeling where your clothes weight 10 pounds more than when you put them on because they are soaked? That was what happened today.

Looking back on this week, its nothing exciting because its pretty much what I planned out in my post on Sunday:

Sunday: Rest day

Monday: 4.21 miles (8:50 pace), core and glutes, Body pump in PM

Tuesday: 5.1 miles (9:10 pace), core and glutes

Wednesday: 25 min elliptical, Body Pump, CX Works. Hot Yoga in PM

Thursday: 5.5 miles: After a 10 min warm up, I alternated 4 minutes hard with 2 minutes easy, 5 times and then ran a 10 minute cool down (8:44 average pace)

Friday: 3.8 miles (9:08 pace), Yoga in PM

Saturday: 11.5 miles (9:03 pace)

Total: 30.11

As I said last week I haven’t been feeling 100% so I went for a consultation with a different chiropractor (more on that in another post). To help see my progress I am starting to track how I feel each day during/after my run. Hopefully I can see that the treatment I am getting/what I am doing is helping to make progress. Today I felt great until the last 2 miles, at which point my left leg gradually started to get tight. A few weeks ago it felt that way after 4 miles, so this is much better.

My goal at this point is to feel good enough to run the Baltimore 10 miler on June 14th. I know what to expect from the race because I have ran it twice (its hilly, and I know it will be hot in mid-June) but if I’m feeling good it will be an opportunity to see where I am speed-wise in a shorter distance race.

So tell me, how was your week in running/training/working out?

Does it get really humid where you live?

Note: I just switched to self-hosting (I’m planning to work on formatting today). Please let me know if you are having any issues getting to my blog!

Today is the first really hot/humid day for us here in northern NJ! Today is a complete rest day for me but I have a 10k tomorrow morning and I was really hoping to come close to a PR but with this weather there is just no way. I am not built for heat and humidity. Even just doing nothing in this weather is a workout!

No problem at all getting to the site – and it looks fantastic, congrats! You got solid runs in last week – and it sounds like it was good for multiple reasons you decided not to do the half!

Thanks for the feedback! And yes I’m glad I didn’t do the half. But part if me does want to be ready to race! I’m just trying to be patient…

My tendonitis has been acting up, so this week’s runs were mostly lousy and painful. I live in Maryland as well, so I feel ya with the humidity! I participated in a 5K on Saturday morning and the air was so heavy – I’m not ready for the humid summer air yet!

Sorry your runs didn’t go well! I’m not ready for summer running either…we just got through such a terrible winter, I feel like we deserve more of a spring!

No prob at all on the new site – yay! 🙂

Great week of workouts! I think good call on not doing the race … so hard but important to listen to our body!

We get humidity, but not as bad as further south, that is for sure! 🙂 I used to totally melt in the heat and humidity but after my thyroid died I find I manage it better … but dehydration remains a major concern for me – and I am a major league sweathog! As my kids said last weekend “Dad you smell like … you need a shower! “

Haha yea after running on Saturday I was strongly encouraging Rob to go take a shower. He likes to sit around for awhile before showering after he runs. I like to get in there as soon as possible, especially when its so hot out!

Yesterday’s’ long run was 16 miles with 6 x 1 Yesterday’s’ long run was 16 miles with 6 x 1 mile MP/1 mile easy. I took a few hours of PTO in the morning to do this on the trail because I knew wouldn’t be able to do it this weekend. This was my first time on the trail since my marathon last November. It was nice to be back there and the perfect place to do this kind of long run. It was the kind of run where you start thinking “ok cool I just did a tough MP workout” but then you remember you actually need to run 26 miles in a row at that pace. Luckily there’s still 9 more weeks of training…although that doesn’t really sound like that much!
41 miles for the week and got in 2 strength sessions. Taking it easy this weekend other than chasing the kids around for all their activities! #run #marathontraining #longrun
It’s kind of freeing to not care about pace. It It’s kind of freeing to not care about pace. It is a little frustrating to have to plan more time for an easy run. But it’s definitely worth it to recover quicker and feel better on workout days! #run #marathongtraining #easyrun
You know marathon training is starting to get real You know marathon training is starting to get real when you start losing track of what training week it is. I had to check my calendar but this was week 6, so 10 weeks to go!

I ran the Charles Street 12 last weekend so this week was all about easy miles and recovering from the race. That went well until I went and ran all the hills yesterday followed by walking around a maze and fun park for 5 hours. I got in some strength and mobility this morning and now I’m back to focusing on recovery!

If you’re training for a race how many weeks do you have left?

15 miles, over 1,100 feet of elevation gain, and 9 15 miles, over 1,100 feet of elevation gain, and 91% humidity 🫠 Pretty sure that was harder than my race last weekend, but got it done. Now off to my second workout of the day- taking the kids to an outdoor fun park. RIP to my legs.
What are you up to this weekend?
