As expected, we had a few days of nice fall weather and then it started to feel like winter. It really feels like I was just complaining about the heat 2 weeks ago, and now it’s below freezing in the mornings. I think it might get a little warmer again next week, but not much. Anyway, here’s my week of workouts after our nice 3 days of fall!
Weekly Run Down: Our 3 Days of Fall
Monday: Strength Training + 3 Treadmill Miles
I was a little nervous to lift again after tweaking my shoulder last week. But this felt good! I also ran 3 miles on the treadmill.
Tuesday: 4.1 Mile Run with Strides
This was a nice fall morning. It was 46 degrees, which is the only run I’ve done outside in the 40s this season! I was able to run in a light hoodie with thumbholes and shorts. Great running weather!
Wednesday: Rest Day
Initially I wasn’t planning on this being my rest day, but I kept moving things around and this is what worked out best. When I woke up it was in the mid-30s, which I was surprised to see! Wasn’t it just 90 degrees like 2 weeks ago?
Thursday: Strength Training + 20 Minutes Spin Bike
I had decided to take Friday off of work and I knew I wanted to run outside, so I figured I would get in my strength training and cross-training on Thursday. I had started noticing my shoulder again on Tuesday night/Wednesday so I skipped some of the shoulder exercises.
Friday: 7 Mile Run
I have a lot of leave time for work that I will lose at the end of the year, so I decided to take the day off. It was still a jam packed day! I got up at 5, worked on training plans, put away groceries that we had delivered that morning, got Grayson ready and gave him breakfast, and dropped him at daycare. Then I headed out for a run. It was 32 degrees but warmed up nicely and it felt really good to run somewhere different!
I did 7 miles and might have gone longer but I had an appointment with the chiropractor. I told him about my shoulder and a few other spots that were giving me some trouble. He adjusted everything including my upper body which I really needed!
Then I spent the rest of the day running around doing a million little things that I’ve been putting off. I don’t know where the time goes but I didn’t get everything done. It was still nice to get a little more caught up!
Saturday: 3.6 Stroller Miles
It was another chilly morning around 32 degrees. We tried to bundle up Grayson but he didn’t believe us that it was actually cold out. We settled on a winter coat (so we could keep his hood up) and a blanket so we could at least try to cover his hands. I think his hands were probably still a little cold but it wasn’t too bad. Eventually he will learn that we know best!
Sunday: Planning for a few stroller miles
Once again it’s supposed to be in the 30s in the morning. As long as it’s not windy I don’t mind the chilly weather, but I’m a little sad it’s already feeling like winter and we only had 3 days of fall.
It’s also the end of daylight saving time which means we get an extra hour of sleep. Oh wait, I have a toddler so just kidding! I will be up at 4 am and so will he.

How long was/is fall for you?
Are you ready for cold weather or hanging on to those warmer days?
Do you ever take a day off and find yourself busier than ever?
I’m linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down!
The time changes were so challenging with toddlers! Hope maybe you did get some extra sleep. My son would not go into the stroller after he could walk so I guess you are lucky he still will sometimes. Glad you got some time to yourself this week
I’m really glad he still wants to come in the stroller! Although its getting much harder to push him…
Or if you have sons like mine, they never thought I knew best, lol! It’s interesting having grown sons, who are realizing I know a thing or 2. Having a toddler is definitely challenging, but oh so fun! Thank goodness for running.
I guess I wouldn’t be surprised if he never wanted to take my advice! Yes, running is definitely needed these days!
Definitely not ready for cold weather. I can never dress right. And too much darkness.
Great idea to take day off and run. I have done the same thing several times.
I can’t believe its only early November and we are going to have like 5 months of cold, dark weather.
I’m sure DST is tough with kids!
Those random weekdays off are such a treat, aren’t they?
Love that Brooks jacket! I should break mine out again.
This jacket is definitely one of my favorites- and its perfect for this time of year!
Ha ha… yes. Turning the clock back when you have a toddler has a whole different meaning. Just wait till we turn them ahead in the spring… that’s really a nightmare.
Honestly I think fall is overrated. I never remember really enjoying it when I lived up north- it’s only now that I appreciate it from afar. I hope you get s few more fall-ish days though before winter sets in!
Toddlers and DST do not mix! Especially when they don’t feel well- he was up at 3:45 today and didn’t nap! It was the loooongest day ever!
I was surprised how quickly our overnight temps dipped into the 30s. Hopefully we’ll have more mornings in the 40s before they really take hold. Nice on taking time off, even if you don’t do anything big with it!
This week is looking pretty good until the rain moves in! I feel like we really missed out on having mornings in the 40s.
Ooh that is chilly. We hit 34 ish on Friday and I was worried about frosty pavements but it went damp and warmed up a bit and was OK and not slippy. Our clocks went back last weekend so my poor husband has had a week of overlapping meetings as he works with UK, Romanian and US people!
Oh that’s so tough to work with other places in different time zones! Changing the clock is always such a struggle.
Well you know my thoughts on Fall …we get maybe, MAYBE, a couple weeks of real fall weather before winter temps are a reality. Which is why I hang on to Summer as long as possible….
I kind of thought that since it was still so warm throughout October that we might have a mild November. So far that has not been the case!
Um, no, he’s never going to learn that you know better — sorry, although you do! I have the reverse with my mom right now . . .
We did have fall weather but it was often buried in rain. This week was outstanding!
And yes, my rest days aren’t always very restful but I have been making more of an effort to make them so. Luckily I just have an old dog. 🙂 He’s relatively chill.
I guess it will be a really long time before he starts to accept that I might know best! That must be tough to go through that with your mom.
The temps dipped quickly here too, but I’m not complaining. I’m amazed that Grayson will still ride in the stroller…I remember how challenging the change of the clocks was with little ones. I hope you get a little extra sleep 🙂
Grayson likes the idea of coming for runs but once we are out there he starts asking to get out! But we can usually get through 3-4 miles.
We were teased with some gorgeous mild fall temps but they sure slip away fast. I’m not sure I’m ever ready for winter! Glad you could enjoy some time off work! DST is no joke when toddlers are involved!
It seems like this week is going to be pretty nice here for a couple days. It would be great to have some more nice fall weather before winter arrives!
For what it’s worth, my cat didn’t know the time had changed either. No extra rest for me this morning! Your son is such a trooper for going out in the chilly temps. My teen won’t wear a jacket either! 😉 I used to save up my “chores” to do on my day off, but now I try to get them all done ahead of time so I can enjoy my days off! Even so, mine are always busy too.
Its really nice to get chores done early and enjoy a day off. Its tough to do that though! Even when I had a full week off over the summer I felt like I was busy every day.
I struggle to get my 13 year old to dress for the weather. He will wear a hoodie and jeans when it’s 90 degrees, and shorts when it’s 40. We know best, but they don’t care lol.
Glad you were able to take a day off. I hope you can enjoy a few more!
Haha, well I remember being a teenager and not wanting to dress appropriately for the weather, so I can’t really blame him!
