Potomac River Run Marathon

The past two weeks were all about recovery from my marathon. Well, they should have been. However, it wasn't all just about race recovery. I took the first week off from running (and all exercise) and also fought off a stomach bug. The second week I started easing back into some light workouts. Let's take a look at how these marathon race recovery weeks played out.

On October 2nd I ran the Potomac River Run Marathon, which was my 7th marathon and my first in 6 years. It was also my first live race in 2 years. In this recap I’m sharing all the details of my race, including why it was a particularly challenging one for me.

Potomac River Run Marathon Race Recap

I'm writing this a few days before my marathon. During this last week of the taper I've had a lot of thoughts about my marathon training cycle. I wanted to take some time to write down all my thoughts before my race even happens. Because no matter what happens this weekend, I want to appreciate what went well and learn from the things I could have done better. I know I won't be able to have a race recap up the week after the race, so I'm planning to post this first and then a recap will come next week.

Somehow, after 16 weeks of training, it is already race week! I'm drafting this before my race and will just try to pop in Saturday afternoon to add some last minute updates. Hopefully by the time this goes live the race will successfully by completed! Let's take a look at training week 16: race week!

19 miles! 7 on the treadmill, 12 outside, 1,272 to 19 miles! 7 on the treadmill, 12 outside, 1,272 total feet of elevation gain. Amazing weather. Listened to Life of a Showgirl on the treadmill and had some podcasts saved for my outside run but couldn’t get my headphones to connect. This was challenging by the end and I kept thinking how hard it would be if I needed to run another 7 miles today (and all miles at a faster pace) but this is why we train. Feeling like I’m in a good place with 6 weeks to go! How was your run today? #run #marathontraining #longrun

The long runs are getting longer, and I’m slowly feeling like my fitness is building. I can’t believe that by the time October is over I’ll be getting ready to taper for the marathon! Let’s hope October brings lots of good miles and maybe some cooler weather. Was September a good month of running for you? #september #marathontraining #running
