It must be winter around here because all I want to do is lay on the couch in front of the fireplace in sweatpants drinking red wine. Or coffee. Or winter beer. Really, anything will do as long as I am in something cozy and warm.
Last week I was at Target and bought a few pairs of really warm socks. Best idea ever! I usually wear my slippers around the house but it’s nice to have another option to keep my feet really warm in the winter.
Last weekend when it snowed I spent most of the day like this.
View of the cold outdoors.
And a few weeks ago there was some of this.
Do you guys remember how I have talked about Great Lakes Christmas Ale before? Rob’s family introduced me to it and whenever we see them for the holidays they bring us some. We try to make it last as long as possible!
My new Garmin likes to tell me to “move” a few times a day.
This is fine and probably a good idea after what I just said about laying on the couch as much as possible, but what about when it tells me to move 20 minutes after I finished a 7 mile run? That doesn’t seem right. Or while I am doing strength training. Just because I am not walking around doesn’t mean I’m not moving!
It’s been way too long since I have gone to Starbucks.
2 weeks to be exact. When I looked back at my app to figure that out I realized I have a free drink! Now I need to go ASAP.
Usually I try to make my own coffee at home. For years we have used a Keurig, but this Christmas I said I wanted to try a French Press. We got this one which seemed simple enough. However, I am really struggling to make the perfect brew! It’s either too weak or too strong and all the grinds make a mess when I clean it out. I’ve been experimenting with this on the weekends because it’s too much to handle before work in the mornings.
My typically weekend morning this winter looks like this:
Wake up early, make a cup of coffee in Keurig. Lay on couch under blanket doing blog stuff. Go for run in the cold. Come back and shower, eat, attempt to make coffee in French Press. Fail. Make Keurig coffee instead. Do some meal prep. Back to couch. Start drinking wine.
My life is so exciting.

Any tips for using the French Press? (Thanks to Suzy and Laura for some tips to get me started!)
How have you been staying warm this winter?
Linking up with Amanda for Thinking Out Loud!
Hahahahhaha I wish my life was as exciting as yours because your weekend routine sounds pretty great to me 🙂 I’m jealous that you get to use your fireplace! It got cold-ish here this week but not cold enough to use the fireplace. I wonder if we’ll ever get to use it!
I think this weekend routine works well during the winter months.
Not sure if 60 degrees is cold enough to require a fireplace:)
I’m still lazy and using my Keurig! I would be annoyed too if something was telling me to get up and move – I move enough!
I pretty much ignore the reminders now…although I too try to pay attention to if Ive been sitting too long at work!
What is the failure? When I used to have a French Press, I put the grounds in, poured the boiling/hot water over top, put the lid on with the plunger up, wait 4 minutes, then plunger down and pour…. what is the issue? Maybe you are too smart for it and trying to complicate the matter too much.
I can’t get the ratio of coffee to water rights. And Im not sure if Im grinding the beans too much or too little. Each time Ive made coffee its either super watery or looks like mud!
People at work were RAVING about the Great Lakes Christmas Ale the other day! Sadly, it’s not available in Charlotte, but if I ever see it, I’m definitely grabbing some.
Definitely try it if you get the chance!
Wow this was me the last few weeks. Granted no snow but same mindset lol. When my alarm goes off and I’m all cozy in bed, all I want to do is hit snooze and go back to bed.
Getting back into it this week but man it’s hard lol.
Its definitely tough this time of year. Hopefully we will get some motivation back soon!
Today i would say i stayed pretty warm considering it was almost 70 degrees out! But it will be back to the frigid temps and personal heater this weekend 🙂
The weather today was crazy! Too bad its not sticking around for long.
I have that same french press! I haven’t mastered it yet, I make my husband do it. I should learn though! There’s got to be a good youtube tutorial?
I tried following some Youtube videos last weekend. They didnt say exactly how much water they were using so I still wasnt sure about that part! I think I have the steps down, its just the amounts Im still figuring out.
My Garmin buzzed at me to move while snowboarding! As bad as this sounds, I don’t grind my beans at home. We use French press ground or regular for the French press. Keep trying and you will get it!
So strange about the Garmin! And I think Im getting closer with the French Press…hoping I will be able to make a good cup this weekend!
All about the sweatpants and coziness lately. AND I’m originally from Cleveland so we are ALL about Christmas Ale! My parents send us home to MD with a case every year after the holidays, love it!
Christmas Ale is great! I wish it was available all year!
My Garmin is telling me to move, and when I am at work, my Apple Watch tells me to move. So bossy!
I know right! Very rude.
Isn’t it funny how our bodies feel the pull to hibernate too? This is why I knew I couldn’t sign up for a spring marathon…. I just can’t get myself out the door for long runs in the cold! Cozy socks and lounging on the couch are a must. 🙂
So true! Training through the winter for a spring marathon is really tough.
I’ve been buying up some clearance workout clothes! I really need to stay away from the stores it was only a couple months ago I said NO MORE to workout gear but here I am right back at it…
I’ve looked at those french presses and I wondered how they did! What kind of coffee is this? Appears to be freshly ground??
I bought whole bean coffee from Fresh Market and ground it right before I made the coffee!
