New Year, New Baby, and My New “Normal”

Well, it sure has been awhile! Last time I left off I was in the home stretch of pregnancy. A few days later, Grayson was born! I’ve wanted to write this post for a while now, but every time I would even consider it something else would come up. You know, like a diaper change, a feeding, or my own need to take a nap. I guess that’s my new normal now!

Grayson’s Birth

So to back up a bit, Grayson was born on December 15th. I was 38 weeks and 6 days pregnant at that point, so he was about a week early. I was supposed to have a scheduled c-section on 12/18, but he had other ideas. We had found out he was breech at 36 weeks and tried everything to get him to turn with no luck. I started having contractions throughout that day that Saturday and went to the hospital around 7pm. At 9:29pm he made his arrival!

The first week or so was a blur. We were in the hospital for 3 nights which was kind of nice. After my c-section I wasn’t able to do much so it was helpful to have all the nurses around and not have to travel very far to do anything. I wasn’t in too much pain thanks to pain medication, but if they wore off too much I definitely felt it. Each day was significantly better.

Adjusting to our new normal

Once we were home we started to adjust. For a good week or two we slept in the family room so that I wouldn’t have to go up and down the stairs. Our house went from tidy and organized to having baby and Christmas stuff everywhere. We had family visiting on and off. I slept more than expected but was still pretty tired all the time.

Postpartum Fitness

Because of my c-section I can’t exercise for at least 6 weeks (it’s already been 4 somehow!) I go back to my OB on Thursday and should know more then. I’ve gone on a bunch of walks and also tried to walk on the treadmill when the weather is bad. I also get quite a workout from holding this little guy!

I really haven’t missed running or working out at all. Instead I just want to spend all of my time and energy taking care of Grayson. I’m feeling mostly better after surgery but definitely notice my incision area if I do too much. So it might still be awhile before I attempt running. Not to mention I am definitely going to need to find a good sports bra. My cheap Target ones will no longer cut it!

All About Grayson

So enough about me! Let’s talk about Grayson. He is awesome! Who knows, maybe I’m just biased. He sleeps really well unless he gets overtired and then it’s harder to get him to settle down. He loves to eat! Nursing was a little tricky at first but once we got the hang of it it became his favorite activity. While it’s very time-consuming I do enjoy all the time I get to spend cuddling with him.

We had newborn photos taken last weekend and they are amazing! I can’t wait to share some once we pick out which ones we want. I really couldn’t believe how good he was for the pictures. We even got a cute smile in one of them! You can see a preview here.

Just another selfie!

He makes the funniest faces and does all these weird things with his hands while he is sleeping. I think he likes to be swaddled but if he is awake when we do it he breaks out right way. I thought by now we would have mastered it but nope. We also joke that he does core work (lifting his legs up when we lay him on his back) and push-up/planks during tummy time. It must be because of all the working out I did when I was pregnant!

Giving us the stink eye

I can’t believe he is almost 1 month old already. I already feel like the time is going by way too fast.

If you stuck around thanks for reading this long and rambling post! Make sure to follow me on Instagram for more frequent updates. I doubt I’ll be blogging very often for a while. Recently I started using Instagram stories where I’ve been sharing random parts of my day. I feel like I spend so much time on there now when I’m glued to the couch with a baby in my arms all day!

You don’t know the life of a runnergirl, babe. J You don’t know the life of a runnergirl, babe. Just living that 3:30am alarm clock life and chugging gels like it’s my job. #longrun #marathontraining #lifeofashowgirl
Has to be a quick dance party because I’m alread Has to be a quick dance party because I’m already running late! Why does this album get stuck in my head during all of my runs? #running #marathontraining #lifeofashowgirl
19 miles! 7 on the treadmill, 12 outside, 1,272 to 19 miles! 7 on the treadmill, 12 outside, 1,272 total feet of elevation gain. Amazing weather. Listened to Life of a Showgirl on the treadmill and had some podcasts saved for my outside run but couldn’t get my headphones to connect. This was challenging by the end and I kept thinking how hard it would be if I needed to run another 7 miles today (and all miles at a faster pace) but this is why we train. Feeling like I’m in a good place with 6 weeks to go! How was your run today? #run #marathontraining #longrun
