Run, Lift, Bike, Repeat

This week’s workout were almost exactly the same as last week’s: Run, Lift, Bike, Repeat. Running has been minimal and still no sign of the orthotics. I’m sure they messed something up. The lady who answers the phone every time I call seems to feel really bad and says no one is getting back to her about it. I guess soon I will just say forget it and go somewhere else.

Run, Lift, Bike, Repeat: Some weeks feel like I'm just going through the same workouts over and over. This week involved running, strength training, and biking.

Even though it’s the middle of May this week didn’t feel like it at all. The end of the week brought lots of rain and chilly temperatures. I moved my run to Sunday again to avoid the rain and ended up with a gorgeous morning for running.

Monday: 30 minutes spin bike, strength training

I’ve enjoyed adding a mini strength training to my Monday workouts. I usually focus mostly on core work but also make sure to include some upper and lower body work as well.

bike

Tuesday: 2.4 miles, Run & 10 glute workout

I’ve still been doing these shorter run-walks for about 30 minutes a couple times a week. I’d feel better about it if I was actually breaking in my orthotics, but it feels good to be outside and getting in even just a little bit of running.

tuesday run

Wednesday: 10 mins bike, Total Body Bosu Workout

I decided to do this bosu workout again since I shared it on my blog that day. It’s a challenging workout but goes by quickly!

bosu workout

Thursday: 2.5 miles, Run & 10 Core Workout

Another short run-walk. I had been to the chiropractor on Tuesday and Wednesday for dry needling, so my foot felt a little funny. It got better as the day went on so I think it was just a little sore from the treatment.

thursday run

Friday: 30 minutes spin bike, Run & 10 arms and stability workouts

More biking and strength work. I like that there are so many 10 minute videos to use each week because I think doing the same ones every day would drive me crazy.

foam rolling

There was also some foam rolling post-workout. Did you know that Thursday was National Foam Rolling Day?

Saturday: Rest

Sunday: 4.3 miles, Run & 10 Mobility workout

As I said before it turned out to be a gorgeous morning for a run after 3 days straight of rain and clouds. I got out around 6:30am and it was so quiet and peaceful.

I also got a Stridebox delivery this week, which is always a nice surprise! I wish I was running more so I could really appreciate all of these samples!

May Stridebox

If you want to try your own StrideBox, you can save $5 off your first box when you sign up for a monthly subscription using code 5MBM417

Should we start making bets on if I’m every getting these orthotics? Is the universe telling me it’s a bad idea? (I’ve questioned it the whole time, I’m just out of other solutions!) Maybe I’ll get some answers this week.

What would you do about the orthotics if you were me?
Did it feel like May where you live?
How were your workouts last week?

this is crazy already about the orthotics! can you ask to speak to someone else? can the doctor get involved? the weather was so cold for here last week but I see this week may go up to 87 so that will be a crazy change!

The lady Ive spoken to says she keeps sending messages to the doctor (I guess because he is seeing patients when I call?) We are supposed to get a heat wave at the end of the week too!

How frustrating about the orthotics. Even though you’ve been up-in-the-air about them, I’m sure you are still anxious to give them a try to see how it goes. I hope they come in this week!!!

Thanks! Yes, it would be nice to just get the process started so I know if I like them or not!

Great workouts this week! How is your foot feeling without the orthotics? Are you still committed to trying them–if so, I would definitely be very persistent until you get them! It does feel like May. We had a lot of rain early in the week and by the end of the week it was in the 80s! Just up and down like normal CO weather!

My foot has been feeling pretty good, but this seems to be a pattern…it will feel good for a few weeks and then bother me again. So Im just trying to keep my mileage really low while I test things out.

That is so weird about the orthotics. Something had to have been screwed up somewhere. I’m always a skeptic about those so who knows. I too was thinking about how when the end of June hits and the days start shortening, we’ll feel like it’s so sudden, but it’s because we really haven’t been able to enjoy them due to the cold and rain.

      May 15, 2017 at 7:55 pm

It would be so nice to be able to start enjoying the longer days!

I hope they give you either the biggest discount ever or don’t even charge you for them. This is getting ridiculous!

      May 15, 2017 at 7:56 pm

I hope so too! It makes me not even want to give them my business!

Yea it really is pretty unbelievable!

That is so frustrating about the orthotics! I would probably cancel the ordee and try somewhere else. It feels like May because we have less rain, but it’s still as chily as March or April most days!

    • Lisa @ Mile By Mile says

      May 15, 2017 at 7:57 pm

The temps here have definitely felt more like March than May. Im sure the break from rain is nice for you!

Do you think you have been doing just find without the orthodics? Maybe it is a sign you do not need them.Great week of workouts! I incorporated some of those moves that you shared on your BOSU ball workout in my class last week and they really enjoyed it. So thanks!

I feel like I still need to try the orthotics because even though I may have a few good weeks of running it almost seems to come back and bother me again. I’m so glad you liked some of the exercise from the bosu workout!

I’m so sorry to hear about orthotics – that’s very frustrating! Even if they get them in soon, they need to offer you a huge discount. What terrible customer service!

Congrats on another great week of training. Your Stridebox delivery looks awesome!

I agree that I should get some sort of discount!

Oh I definitely think you need orthotics. I wouldn’t take it as a sign not to get them–I’d take it as a sign that someone screwed up the order. SO FRUSTRATING!!!!

    • Lisa @ Mile By Mile says

      May 15, 2017 at 7:59 pm

Well yes, thats definitely true. I have no idea how it could get THIS screwed up with no explanation…

Thanks! Yes, the orthotics situation is so strange and frustrating.

We’ve been getting rain, but apparently it’s normal for May. We get more precipitation in April and May than we do all winter. It’s been rain so far, but last year Denver got a blizzard on Mother’s Day.

    • Lisa @ Mile By Mile says

      May 15, 2017 at 8:00 pm

Wow, a blizzard on Mothers day doesn’t sound like fun! I didnt realize Colorado had that kind of weather.

    May 15, 2017 at 3:20 pm

Really weird that you haven’t received your orthotics yet – I would cancel my order if possible and try to get a refund. How frustrating!

Nice job on your workouts as usual – the 10 minute workouts sound great! I wish I could say I foam rolled on National Foam Rolling Day though, oops!

    • Lisa @ Mile By Mile says

      May 15, 2017 at 8:01 pm

Part of me really wants to cancel the order and start over but then I would have to start all over at a new place!

  14. Debbie says

    May 15, 2017 at 8:54 pm

I think it’s time to go over her head about the orthotics. Nice or not she’s not getting the job done. Ask for her supervisor, or to talk to the doctor, or someone.

    • Lisa @ Mile By Mile says

      May 16, 2017 at 6:11 pm

Yea, its a really small office, and whenever I call the doctor is with patients. But there has to be someone who can help me!

  15. angela @ happy fit mama says

    May 15, 2017 at 9:08 pm

That’s just crazy about the orthotics! I got mine through my PT. She fitted me for them and heat molded it right then and there. No waiting required. Maybe you need to look into something like that instead? It seems like you need to look elsewhere because that’s a ridiculous amount of time.

    • Lisa @ Mile By Mile says

      May 16, 2017 at 6:11 pm

The dr actually scanned my foot instead of molding, which I thought would be faster! I guess not!

  16. Kimberly Hatting says

    May 15, 2017 at 11:08 pm

The orthotics…..since I’m a little freaked out about the whole orthotics thing anyways, I’d take it as a sigh from the universe that they’re not meant to be LOL That must be so frustrating to keep waiting…and waiting…

    • Lisa @ Mile By Mile says

      May 16, 2017 at 6:12 pm

If my foot would just feel 100% during the wait then I would definitely take it as a sign. but everyone once in a while I get a little tiny reminder that its not gone for good just yet.

  17. HoHo Runs says

    May 17, 2017 at 7:46 pm

It is ridiculous you can’t get your orthotics. I hope you haven’t paid for them or can get your money back. I’m always impressed you continue to push forward. You always do such a great variety workouts and strength training. Your commitment to doing what you can is amazing. I know you must be frustrated at this point but you seem to be handling it with such grace. Hang in there! Thanks for linking, Lisa!

You’re too kind. I’m hanging in there, and still find it unbelievable that I don’t have any updates.

Would it even be race week if I wasn’t a ball of n Would it even be race week if I wasn’t a ball of nerves and not able to sleep? This is my first big marathon in 10 years, my first time traveling to a race in 10 years, and my first time spending the night away from my kids. And of course I’m tapering so I can’t run off the nerves 🙃 #marathontraining #taper #richmondmarathon
Looked like fall, felt like summer 🍁 I was definit Looked like fall, felt like summer 🍁 I was definitely overdressed for this run but it was nice to not wear gloves or a headband! This was the run I needed a week before my marathon. After last week’s disaster of a long run it felt great to just run an easy 10 miles. (And these days 10 miles feels like nothing). I think I figured out the fueling and shoes 🤞so nothing left to do but take it easy, carb load, and get in the right mindset! Is it unseasonably warm where you are?

#running #marathontraining #longrun
Yesterday’s long run was not what I wanted it to b Yesterday’s long run was not what I wanted it to be. The plan was to take the day off from work, head to the trail where I could run 10 uninterrupted miles at MP (16 total) and practice my race day fueling while wearing my race day shoes.

What actually happened? All week I was stressed about this run and the condition of the trail. We had lots of rain on Thursday, and Friday was forecasted to be very windy. I tried to get in the best mindset possible, reminding myself that I won’t be able to control the conditions on race day. Meanwhile, I haven’t been sleeping well thanks to my 2 year old waking up every night, and my watch has been basically telling me that I’m losing all my fitness and need a week of recovery.

While I started the run feeling pretty good, after 11 miles (7 at MP) my stomach turned and I almost got sick on the side of the trail. I just couldn’t recover from that. The best I could do was run the rest of the miles easy, and needed some walk breaks. On top of that, my shoe kept rubbing my foot on top and I stopped twice to retie it. This has never happened before and now I’m questioning what shoes I should wear for the race. The trail was also in rough condition with several trees blocking it, lots of wet leaves, and rocks/sticks that I had to look out for.

I just can’t believe how bad I felt for the last 5 miles of this run and I can’t pinpoint the cause. Am I overdoing it with the fueling and can’t handle it on harder effort runs? Was it something I ate recently? The hard part is there’s no time to really try something different before the race, as all I have left is a 10 mile easy run next weekend.

I’m trying to remember that one bad run does not take away from all the good runs this training cycle. I’m using today to reset and move on so I can make the most of my last 2 weeks of training. It’s not the way I wanted my last big long run to go, but I suppose it was good practice for pushing through even when I felt pretty awful.

Who else has had a terrible long run close to your race?

#running #marathontraining #longrun
Spent almost every step of this 21 mile run questi Spent almost every step of this 21 mile run questioning my life choices. Like waking up at 3am to run 12 miles on the treadmill and 9 outside. This was a crazy week with a kid that wasn’t sleeping great and fighting a cold and super busy days at work. My legs were just tired the whole time today. It was really hard to run outside after so many treadmill miles and my pace was much slower than inside.

I reminded myself that this is peak week. It’s supposed to feel hard. If it was easy everyone would do it. I ran 53 miles this week and am not injured. The weather is perfect. I’ve gotten in every planned run of this training cycle so far. I get to do this.

And I managed to finish strong with my last 3 miles the fastest of the (outside) run. I owe that to a solid fueling plan and taking all my gels even when I really didn’t want to.

3 weeks to go until race day!
