Same Story, Different Blog

Oh hey, remember me? I just moved in to my new blog site and am still getting settled, but I missed blogging! I figured I would stick with my same routine and share last week’s workouts. I spent way too much time on computers last week, so any time I exercised it felt really good to move. I had to incorporate some upper body mobility work into my routine because my shoulders and neck were so tight!

weekly workout recap

Workouts for the Week of 10/24-10/30

Monday: I had run 7 miles on Sunday, so took Monday off from running. I did my usual PT stuff, some strength training, and finished up with a short ride on the bike for about 10 minutes.

monday

Tuesday: 3 miles plus PT exercises. I have two PT routines that I follow, one that I do before a run and the other I do on days that I am not running. This helps me to make sure I do all the exercises throughout the week but I save the longer routine for days when I have more time.

tuesday

Wednesday: I’ve stuck with my goal to do Pilates once a week! I think this is the 4th week I have incorporated it into my routine. I am liking the added challenge of using the magic circle.

pilates

Thursday: 3 miles, but a little faster than usual. It was colder than I expected so I felt underdressed when I started. After a few minutes of easy running I added in some fartleks. This kept things interesting and helped me to warm up faster!
thursday

Friday: 30 minutes on the spin bike and the usual PT routine

friday

Saturday: 7 miles on a hilly route- I finally made it back to a nearby trail. It was a gorgeous route but definitely a struggle coming back home up a hill!
saturday

Sunday: Just a few minutes of core work/pt stuff

Overall, a good week, and no complaints about the weather lately! I’m hoping fall sticks around a bit longer.

How were your workouts last week?

Are you having nice fall weather?

Does your upper body get sore from working too long on a computer?

I hate the tech stuff lol

Thanks! Everything was moved over, but for some reason alot of the posts are still being password protected even though I changed the settings. Im hoping it just takes some time to reset, because Im not sure what to do otherwise! Im also not sure whats going on with Bloglovin- I havent been able to “claim” the new site yet and its still listing the title as Running Out of Wine.

I think you actually just uncovered something for me–I might be sore in my upper body from the computer! But then again… getting nothing accomplished, so maybe not… lol
Love the new site. Do you feel like you got married and had to change your name? LOL

It does sort of feel like that! Its going to take awhile to adjust to typing the new name.

Congrats on launching the new blog!

The leaves in your last pic look so crunchy. I loooooove the sound of crunching leaves, but of course I hardly ever get to hear it since our leaves generally don’t fall off!

We are finally just getting some crunchy leaves! We have had some warm warm fall weather this year.

Congrats on the new site! The design is beautiful! That’s awesome how you’ve been able to make Pilates a part of your routine. The magic circle adds lots of upper body work to it. Great week of workouts and hooray for some faster running!

I don’t know if I’m sore from computer work, but my neck and shoulders have been tense lately. My chiro’s had to work out kinks the last couple visits. I have one in my neck right now that I’m trying to stretch out.

    • Lisa @ Mile By Mile says

      October 31, 2016 at 6:04 pm

I think I need to get a massage or go to the chiro! I just cant get these knots out on my own.

It has not felt like fall here with the temps in the 80s this weekend but this week it is suppose to be much cooler. Fall weather is nice, but I am not looking forward to what comes after fall. Congrats on launching the new blog, looks great!

Yes, I always get sore in my upper body from sitting at the computer too long. Fortunately, I manage a gym, so when this happens I just get up, walk out onto the floor and do a few uppper body weights! It’s a pretty good gig! 🙂 Love the new site!

That is a great plan! I have been trying to stretch out my arms, neck and shoulders throughout the work day but Im not sure if its really helping at all.

Your new site looks great! Did you design it yourself? I’ve been wanting to overhaul my blog theme but it seems so time-consuming 🙂

For workouts, I just started the Kayla Itsines BBG workout program. This is my second week and so far I really like it. I am working out all areas of my body and building lots of strength back into my legs after taking about a month off of working out.

    • Lisa @ Mile By Mile says

      November 1, 2016 at 5:12 am

I bought a theme on etsy but customized it alot. But it came with some widgets and instructions so that helped! It was still really time consuming because if one thing went wrong it would take me hours to fix.
Ive heard good things about the BBG workouts! Hope you continue to like it!

Love the new site! I can imagine the work it was, just changing my theme was a huge project in July. I haven’t run a hilly route in a while, it’s so dark out I’ve been sticking to the same old route but I need a change!

When I run in the dark mornings I stick to the same route, so its nice to change it up a bit on the weekends!

I’m liking the new look of the site!

You had a great week of workouts! Even though I’m not injured, I do need to step up my PT exercises and spend more time with the foam roller…my knees have been suffering due to neglect!

I like the fall weather but it’s been so inconsistent lately!

    • Lisa @ Mile By Mile says

      November 1, 2016 at 7:28 pm

It really has been inconsistent! As much as I enjoy the warm weather I think Im done with this back and forth. I already put away all my summer clothes!

Well hello Lisa! I almost marked you as a new linker lol. I love the site and the name is just perfect! You have done an amazing job on it! I can’t imagine how long you’ve worked on it!
I too work at a desk all day and it sucks because I don’t get up near enough. Heck my bathroom is about 20 steps, copier, 8 and even kitchen about 25. I work for every step during the day I get!

      Thanks so much!!
It’s so hard to stay active when at a desk all day. I try to move as much as possible but its never enough.

Would it even be race week if I wasn’t a ball of n Would it even be race week if I wasn’t a ball of nerves and not able to sleep? This is my first big marathon in 10 years, my first time traveling to a race in 10 years, and my first time spending the night away from my kids. And of course I’m tapering so I can’t run off the nerves 🙃 #marathontraining #taper #richmondmarathon
Looked like fall, felt like summer 🍁 I was definit Looked like fall, felt like summer 🍁 I was definitely overdressed for this run but it was nice to not wear gloves or a headband! This was the run I needed a week before my marathon. After last week’s disaster of a long run it felt great to just run an easy 10 miles. (And these days 10 miles feels like nothing). I think I figured out the fueling and shoes 🤞so nothing left to do but take it easy, carb load, and get in the right mindset! Is it unseasonably warm where you are?

#running #marathontraining #longrun
Yesterday’s long run was not what I wanted it to b Yesterday’s long run was not what I wanted it to be. The plan was to take the day off from work, head to the trail where I could run 10 uninterrupted miles at MP (16 total) and practice my race day fueling while wearing my race day shoes.

What actually happened? All week I was stressed about this run and the condition of the trail. We had lots of rain on Thursday, and Friday was forecasted to be very windy. I tried to get in the best mindset possible, reminding myself that I won’t be able to control the conditions on race day. Meanwhile, I haven’t been sleeping well thanks to my 2 year old waking up every night, and my watch has been basically telling me that I’m losing all my fitness and need a week of recovery.

While I started the run feeling pretty good, after 11 miles (7 at MP) my stomach turned and I almost got sick on the side of the trail. I just couldn’t recover from that. The best I could do was run the rest of the miles easy, and needed some walk breaks. On top of that, my shoe kept rubbing my foot on top and I stopped twice to retie it. This has never happened before and now I’m questioning what shoes I should wear for the race. The trail was also in rough condition with several trees blocking it, lots of wet leaves, and rocks/sticks that I had to look out for.

I just can’t believe how bad I felt for the last 5 miles of this run and I can’t pinpoint the cause. Am I overdoing it with the fueling and can’t handle it on harder effort runs? Was it something I ate recently? The hard part is there’s no time to really try something different before the race, as all I have left is a 10 mile easy run next weekend.

I’m trying to remember that one bad run does not take away from all the good runs this training cycle. I’m using today to reset and move on so I can make the most of my last 2 weeks of training. It’s not the way I wanted my last big long run to go, but I suppose it was good practice for pushing through even when I felt pretty awful.

Who else has had a terrible long run close to your race?

#running #marathontraining #longrun
Spent almost every step of this 21 mile run questi Spent almost every step of this 21 mile run questioning my life choices. Like waking up at 3am to run 12 miles on the treadmill and 9 outside. This was a crazy week with a kid that wasn’t sleeping great and fighting a cold and super busy days at work. My legs were just tired the whole time today. It was really hard to run outside after so many treadmill miles and my pace was much slower than inside.

I reminded myself that this is peak week. It’s supposed to feel hard. If it was easy everyone would do it. I ran 53 miles this week and am not injured. The weather is perfect. I’ve gotten in every planned run of this training cycle so far. I get to do this.

And I managed to finish strong with my last 3 miles the fastest of the (outside) run. I owe that to a solid fueling plan and taking all my gels even when I really didn’t want to.

3 weeks to go until race day!
