Thinking Out Loud #16

Thursday already? I’m not complaining but how did that happen? Three day weekends really throw me off. The beginning of this week will go fast and then next week will feel extra long.

I’m even more thrown off this morning because I can’t find my USB with all of my blog stuff (mostly pictures). I have a feeling it will turn up but I’m freaking out a bit right now. So to get my mind off that let’s think out loud about some other stuff. Let’s start with a few pictures.

sunrise

This was one of the many sunrise shots I got on Wednesday morning. I felt like I was just chasing the sunrise to take more pictures.

sunrise1

Was anyone else really happy that it finally rained last night? I guess if you’re not living on the east coast area maybe you weren’t dealing with the disgusting humidity for the last few days, but based on instagram I could tell I was not the only one trying to run through the humidity. Last night it finally stormed. All afternoon it felt like it was going to rain and then in the middle of yoga class we heard the downpour begin. The instructor opened the windows as we were finishing up class (it was a hot class so it felt good to have a little cooler air come in at the end) and we listened to the rain in savasana.

The fun part was when I got to walk home in the rain. There were puddles 3 inches deep already! I mean I was gross and sweaty so getting wet was fine, but my feet were soaked! I was wearing an old pair of flip flops but now they are really done.

photo 3

We order alot of stuff from amazon subscribe and save, including my favorite Lara bars.

photo 2

We’ve been out for almost a week but finally got a new shipment yesterday! I was probably a little too excited about that. I had been eating Luna Bars when I got desperate but I realized they give me heartburn. Along with triscuits. Who knew? After yesterday’s post I’m still learning more about what my body likes and doesn’t like to eat.

photo 1

Speaking of food, this week has already consisted of some good meals! On Monday I made Paleo Running Momma’s Sundried Tomato and Onion Stuff Chicken with Walnut Pesto. I knew I would like this but I wasn’t sure about Rob. He was hesitant but admitted that he really liked it and encouraged me to save the leftover pesto. (We ate everything else.) I wasn’t able to “stuff” the chicken because it was too thin, so I layered the onion and tomato mixture on top. Just as good in my opinion!

photo 5

I also made a paleo taco salad last night (no picture) but Rob devoured it. I don’t think we will every be buying packaged taco seasoning again.

I know I’ve been all negative lately about summer ending- but you know what’s even worse? Starting to plan for the holidays. Don’t get me wrong, I love the holidays when it gets to be mid November. It’s just a little soon to be thinking about it now. Unfortunately we do so much traveling over the holidays that it needs to get figured out really early. We booked Thanksgiving flights about a month ago, and now we are trying to figure out Christmas. Wanna hear about how complicated it is? Ok I’ll tell you. My parents and sister live in Maryland but the rest of my family is in NY so we go there for Christmas, but can’t leave until Christmas day. Rob’s parents live in Cleveland but have a house in Florida, his sister and brother in law live in Arkansas, and the rest of Rob’s family is in Michigan where they celebrate Christmas. So everyone travels and it’s never easy. At least we have a fun beer tasting tradition.

Glad you liked the chicken! And layered is perfect I’m sure 🙂

It would have looked alot prettier if I could have made it stuffed, but all that counts is that it tastes good, right?:)

I hate when the stores rush the holidays on me. I love Thanksgiving and fall but let’s not push so fast lol. Hanukkah changes every year and last year was so early (started on Thanksgiving) that I didn’t even know it happened it all went so fast. This is it is later in December and I am soooo not even thinking about it yet!

I know! When they start promoting them so early it makes it seem like the holiday season last forever and I get sick of it real fast. I don’t really get excited until November.

Ugh, this humidity! I thought I was going to escape it when I moved to NY, but nope. It’s been hot and humid all week. I don’t think it’s going to rain until Saturday afternoon so we still have a while to go.
The beer tasting looks like a lot of fun! We don’t have much for unique family traditions. I’m happy to be closer to my family now so I don’t have to worry about flying.

That’s nice that you’re close to your family…traveling is a huge hassle!

    Walnut Pesto?! Whoa!

I have tried a TON of the Larabars, but still haven’t tried cashew cookie. Probably should remedy that!

      September 5, 2014 at 11:55 pm

The walnut pesto was so good! Now I want to make my own pesto all the time. I like the cashew cookie because its SO simple: cashews and dates, that’s it!

Those sunrise pics are gorgeous! What a great view. Also, I can’t imagine having to travel for the holidays. I feel spoiled because my family and Brian’s family are both local and live within 45 minutes of one another. We complain about driving back and forth so I don’t know what we would do if we had to really travel. We usually try to split the day, but that can be exhausting in itself.

      September 5, 2014 at 11:57 pm

That’s nice that both of your families are so close! I know people who split the day say that’s hard too…and I guess thats the one good thing for us is wherever we spend the holiday, we’re there for the whole day.

Please don’t hate me for saying that I’m very much ready for summer to be over. Eep! I don’t do well in the heat, and I loooooove the calmness of fall — not to mention the fashion and food that comes with it! As for the holidays, us Canadians celebrate Thanksgiving in October, so ‘holidays’ to me mean Christmas, which I start prepping for when December hits. Can.not.WAIT 😀

I think i just like to savor the warmer weather because I dread the cold! I do like fall… but sometimes fall only lasts a few weeks and then it gets cold for months! I start to get excited for Thanksgiving and Christmas in November. But once that’s over it feels like such a long boring winter!

Mmm bookmarking that chicken recipe to make for my fan next week hopefully! That looks awesome 🙂 I hate thinking about the holidays this early because it makes me so tired just thinking about it. The past few years we’ve spent Christmas Eve with my fam and then Christmas Day with Joe’s but it’s so much driving that I’m exhausted by Christmas night and hate the rest of the week if I have to work. This year we’re changing it because Joe feels the same. We just haven’t worked out the details yet. I’m sure we’ll figure it out soon 😛

I really like that flavor of Luna bar. I have not tried that Lara bar flavor but need to. I am getting sick of my coconut creme ones. I on the other hand was not happy that it rained. Messed up our flt schedule. Such is life.

Sorry that the rain messed up your plans! It actually didn’t help with the humidity as much as I was hoping it would:(

IT finally rained on Tuesday night but it is still hot and humid here in MA. Its so weird bc ALL of August was cooler/cold except for the last week. Go figure!!! Sunrises are my favorite thing-its so much more rewarding to see a sunrise than a sunset!

I can’t believe you have that much traveling going on…Our family is all in the same town so we are lucky…BUT….my husband doesn’t fly so part of me WISHES we had an immediate family member living FAR so that would force him to fly because i love to travel! (good thing he wont read this!)

I am also recently in love with Lara bars. WHy are they so good??? Good call on Amazon. I use them for practically everythingggg lately, including Nuun which is $16.90 (AND that is STILL alot!!)

Go have some fun wine and then include all your favorites on TOL next Thursday!!! I love hearing your favorite stuff!! 🙂

      September 6, 2014 at 12:05 am

Even after it rained here it didn’t get much cooler either. Its so weird that August was so cool and now the weather is so gross!
I guess its a good thing your families are all in one place since your husband doesn’t fly! That must make it tough for vacations and stuff, though!
I also get nuun on amazon! It’s crazy how much that stuff is but I love it:)
I’ve been wanting to do a post about my favorite wine at some point- I just need to get organized and actually keep track of what I’m drinking!

That does sound like a complicated traveling schedule! It’s crazy, I was at a store the other day that had Christmas stuff…I’m ready for fall and I love Christmas, but that’s a little too early! The weather had dried out for a bit here, but today I woke up to 90 degree weather and humidity at 6 AM. So right now we’re waiting for the monsoon and hopefully the heat will break by next week!

It is SO early for Christmas stuff! I’m always so sick of holiday stuff by the time December hits.
Hope the heat breaks for you soon!

Oh how I wish it would rain here! It’s still so hot! I don’t know if I would actually get any running done if I had those views. I would be too busy taking pictures of the gorgeous views!

    • [email protected] says

      September 6, 2014 at 12:11 am

Haha sometimes I add quite a bit of time onto my run from stopping to take pictures! But I’m just trying to enjoy it because once the winter comes I’ll no longer have those views.

We’re slowly getting our August weather in September…. ): I kinda rather it be chillier than hot now that school will be starting and I’ll need to sprint from one side of the campus to another. Like you, we had some crazy rain the other day and the hours after, it was so nice and not humid but it’s all gone now ):

      September 6, 2014 at 12:14 am

I don’t want to believe its time to start thinking about the holidays! While I enjoy them I don’t need them to last forever. Except that I know after Christmas comes a few long months of winter!

    Beautiful pictures!
Yes, we have started the great Thanksgiving debate–who is going where–I think they are all coming here! 🙂
I am TOTALLY done with the humidity!

      September 6, 2014 at 12:23 am

That’s probably a good thing that everyone is coming to you! (At least you don’t have to worry about traveling). I think I would rather do the cooking and cleaning and stuff than travel!

Amazon subscribe and save is the best! Honestly, I don’t know if I like the subscribe or the save part more, haha. It’s so nice to get the essentials delivered to the door! I would definitely do it even if there were no savings!

It rained here today and I think the humidity got worse. It was a total killer this afternoon!

    • [email protected] says

      September 7, 2014 at 11:07 pm

I am so glad that we learned about subscribe and save too- It’s so convenient and a great way to save money! It also prevents me from going to target as often which is always a disaster to my wallet!
Ugh I hope the weather improves for you soon!

  17. Sarah says

    September 7, 2014 at 2:07 am

Totally agreed on the holidays comments. It even annoys me that Halloween candy is out already in supermarkets. Everyone is already jumping on Pumpkin Spice Lattes – it’s still too hot where I am to even think about drinking that for the next few weeks. Haha! 🙂

      September 7, 2014 at 11:10 pm

I know, right? I typically like September because the weather begins to cool down but in my mind its not really fall yet and still FAR off from the holidays!

Yesterday’s’ long run was 16 miles with 6 x 1 Yesterday’s’ long run was 16 miles with 6 x 1 mile MP/1 mile easy. I took a few hours of PTO in the morning to do this on the trail because I knew wouldn’t be able to do it this weekend. This was my first time on the trail since my marathon last November. It was nice to be back there and the perfect place to do this kind of long run. It was the kind of run where you start thinking “ok cool I just did a tough MP workout” but then you remember you actually need to run 26 miles in a row at that pace. Luckily there’s still 9 more weeks of training…although that doesn’t really sound like that much!
41 miles for the week and got in 2 strength sessions. Taking it easy this weekend other than chasing the kids around for all their activities! #run #marathontraining #longrun
It’s kind of freeing to not care about pace. It It’s kind of freeing to not care about pace. It is a little frustrating to have to plan more time for an easy run. But it’s definitely worth it to recover quicker and feel better on workout days! #run #marathongtraining #easyrun
You know marathon training is starting to get real You know marathon training is starting to get real when you start losing track of what training week it is. I had to check my calendar but this was week 6, so 10 weeks to go!

I ran the Charles Street 12 last weekend so this week was all about easy miles and recovering from the race. That went well until I went and ran all the hills yesterday followed by walking around a maze and fun park for 5 hours. I got in some strength and mobility this morning and now I’m back to focusing on recovery!

If you’re training for a race how many weeks do you have left?

#run #runner #marathontraining #richmondmarathon
15 miles, over 1,100 feet of elevation gain, and 9 15 miles, over 1,100 feet of elevation gain, and 91% humidity 🫠 Pretty sure that was harder than my race last weekend, but got it done. Now off to my second workout of the day- taking the kids to an outdoor fun park. RIP to my legs.
What are you up to this weekend?
