in What I Ate Wednesday (WIAW) · July 22, 2015

I Guess I Eat The Same Things Every Day

On Monday I decided to document my meals to share, only to realize that I was eating the same things I have shared on here a million times before. I feel like I change things up quite a bit, but apparently not. I think the problem is that I always eat the same things on Mondays, which seems to be my favorite day to take pictures of my food. It’s the first day of the workweek and all my food prep is fresh from the weekend. So that’s my story and I’m sticking to it! But since I have the pictures, why not share anyway?

banana

5:00am: Monday morning started out as usual, with coffee, water, and a banana. I didn’t run but did the Iron Strength workout which took about 50 minutes.

breakfast

7:00am: Ate two frittatas with a muffin (recipe to come on Friday!) with more coffee while reading a few blogs before leaving for work.

snack

8:30am: It was a little early for my morning snack, but I felt like I needed something. I had these chocolate chip cookie dough bars. Eaten out of the plastic bag that were used to bring them in my lunch bag.

salad

11:45am: Ate an early lunch at my desk: The usual spring mix with roasted sweet potatoes, broccoli, and flat iron steak. I actually don’t get to eat steak very often anymore because they don’t have the kind I like in the grocery store.

lara bar

2:00pm: I’m all thrown off today, and have an afternoon meeting so eat a Larabar because I know I will be starving soon.

cashews and raisins

4:30pm: Get home from work and snack on cashews and raisins while blogging and waiting for Rob to get home.

salmon
recycled photo-just imagine there are green beans instead of asparagus

7:00pm: Eat our usual Monday meal of salmon. We have some roasted red potatoes and green beans on the side. I forgot to take a picture but you can see I have eaten almost the exact same thing before and blogged about it.

ice cream

8:30pm: We decide that we have survived Monday and therefore need some dessert. I had made these blondies over the weekend so we enjoyed them with some ice cream and chocolate chips.

A perfect end to the day!

Do you eat the same things ever day? Same things on the same days of the week?

Do eat a lot of snacks throughout the day?

Not only do I eat the same things every day, I eat the same things throughout the day every day! lol

There’s nothing wrong with that! I just find it funny that whenever I go to do a WIAW post (which isn’t that often anymore) I always end up sharing the same things!

    July 22, 2015 at 5:30 am

I feel like Mondays tend to be my most predictable day, probably coming off the weekend when things might have been all over the place. But yeah, same stuff usually! There are only so many things you can get at the store, might as well but what you know you like 🙂

    • [email protected] says

      July 22, 2015 at 8:45 am

That’s true! And I think there is just something about eating foods you are comfortable with on Mondays…maybe it makes it easier to get back into a routine or something.

well I don’t eat the same thing every day, but I think it’s good to know what works, right? How did you like the blondies?

    • [email protected] says

      July 22, 2015 at 8:47 am

They were really good! And I loved that they were so easy to make. I think they will be one of those snacks that I end up making all the time:)

  4. Susie @ SuzLyfe says

    July 22, 2015 at 7:42 am

If that is what you eat every day, count me in! Cookie Dough bars? yes please. I have hardly cooked this month. We are probably bleeding money through the ears, but there is nothing I can do about it. I am packing at least part of my lunch today, so that’s a start, right?

    • [email protected] says

      July 22, 2015 at 8:48 am

It’s definitely a start! This was a pretty good day because I was home all weekend and did a lot of meal prep and baking. The weeks when I don’t have time on the weekends I end up eating more packaged stuff or buying lunch out.

I definitely eat the same thing over and over and I can’t lie, it’s getting a little boring :/

    • [email protected] says

      July 22, 2015 at 8:49 am

I get bored too, and I think its because I will eat the same things for months before changing it up. If I look back to what I was eating 6 months ago its much different!

  6. Megan @ Meg Go Run says

    July 22, 2015 at 8:19 am

During the school year I totally eat the same thing every day, so I understand. In the summer, I eat more of what I crave, but usually the same types of things. A day of what I eat would either be really boring (especially because I don’t take good pictures) or everyone would be like OMG YOU EAT A LOT! 🙂

    • [email protected] says

      July 22, 2015 at 8:50 am

Haha! I think that’s part of the fun on WIAW, seeing that people don’t eat 3 square meals a day and that its not always pinterest-worthy. But I do find that when I work from home or am off that I can be a bit more creative:)

  7. Brandie says

    July 22, 2015 at 8:21 am

Ice cream is my weakness, especially in the summer. I have fallen in love with Yasso Greek Yogurt bars – the chocolate chip cookie dough ones. I have one almost every night, then I don’t feel as guilty. Lol. But I also love an ice cream sandwich once in awhile. 🙂

I need to try that pb&j larabar. I think I’d love it.

    • [email protected] says

      July 22, 2015 at 8:51 am

Usually I eat a lot of ice cream in the summer but for some reason this year we haven’t had as much! We actually were craving it on Monday because we realized we missed national ice cream day over the weekend:)

  8. Laura @ This Runner's Recipes says

    July 22, 2015 at 8:24 am

Yes, I feel like 80% of my meals are the same! Every once in a while I try a new vegetable and get excited, only to realize I’m still eating a variation on chicken, potatoes, and veggies.

    • [email protected] says

      July 22, 2015 at 8:52 am

Yup, me too! I pretty much rotate the same sides each week, and try to change up the ways I cook chicken. I guess its good when you find what works and enjoy it enough to stick with it!

  9. Karen says

    July 22, 2015 at 8:48 am

Yummm! raisins, cashews, asparagus some of my favorite things 🙂
I tend to go in phases I will spend a week eating multi grain English muffins with peanut butter, sometimes a few times a day because I crave them lol and then not have them for a month lol

    • [email protected] says

      July 22, 2015 at 8:56 am

I do that with certain foods too! But I have definitely noticed if I eat the same thing too often I get sick of it really quickly:)

  10. Jamie says

    July 22, 2015 at 9:04 am

I am such a creature of habit it’s quite sad. I usually only change up my meals when I intentionally try to. Otherwise my diet consists mainly of eggs and fresh fruit in the summer. I’m pretty sure I could snack constantly, but I am trying to cut down… and pack my snack as opposed to eat the snacks out of the office kitchen. This causes me to be a bit more mindful of what I am eating versus just eating cups full of granola because it’s 1. there and 2. free. Haha.

    • [email protected] says

      July 22, 2015 at 10:42 am

I have to be pretty intentional when I change my meals too. Especially when I want to rely on leftovers for lunch, I need to plan to make dinners that I can made extra servings of!

  11. Lesley says

    July 22, 2015 at 9:28 am

My dinner changes but my breakfast and lunch are basically the same. It works for me to get ready for work, then lunch at work. Most of the time I bring my lunch, otherwise I’ll lose my parking space.

    • [email protected] says

      July 22, 2015 at 10:42 am

Same for me! Its much easier to cook different dinners because I have more time and control over those meals.

  12. Suzy says

    July 22, 2015 at 9:30 am

We tend to repeat the same dinners but this week I’m trying to use up all of our food that has been in the freezer/cupboards. I like doing this once in a while. It makes me feel resourceful and then when I go to Costco and shop again it feels like such a fresh start!

    • [email protected] says

      July 22, 2015 at 10:43 am

I like doing that before going on vacation! I usually find that we don’t have as much stuff as we think, or some things have gone bad, so I end up going to the store anyway.

  13. Alyssa @ Renaissancerunnergirl says

    July 22, 2015 at 10:00 am

I eat the same things over and over – oatmeal bakes and/or eggs for breakfast, eggs/waffles or salads for lunch, fish and veggies and rice for dinner, lots of yogurt, fruit, and ice cream for snacks. I always knew I like “what I like” but not until I started doing WIAW did I realize just how much!

    • [email protected] says

      July 22, 2015 at 10:44 am

Isn’t it eye opening to pay more attention to what you eat throughout the day? And its nice that we can do it in just an observing sort of way, because there is really no right or wrong way, its just something to be aware of!

  14. Sarah @pickyrunner says

    July 22, 2015 at 10:25 am

I pretty much eat the same food for every meal every day of the week. Weekdays I eat bagels, pita pizzas, and grilled chicken salads with chocolate squares for dessert. Weekends are bagels and burgers, and ice cream. Literally every week haha I’m one of those people that never gets sick of food!

    • [email protected] says

      July 22, 2015 at 10:45 am

It takes a lot for me to get sick of some of my favorites but it does happen! I used to live off pizza and bagels until I was about 20.

  15. Sam @ See Sam Run says

    July 22, 2015 at 11:36 am

Your dessert looked so darn good. And those cookie dough bars! I want it all.
My eating is different each week and every time I try to plan my meals I never stick with it. I just go with what I’m feeling each day!

    • [email protected] says

      July 22, 2015 at 12:22 pm

That’s a good strategy! And both the dessert and cookie dough bars were really good:)

  16. Nona @ RunningHigh says

    July 22, 2015 at 11:46 am

    • [email protected] says

      July 22, 2015 at 12:22 pm

Good point! Once you find something you like, why change it up?

  17. Niki @ Life With Niki says

    July 22, 2015 at 12:22 pm

I always realize this too as I go through my day of eats… as much as we think we eat a ‘varied’ diet, most people honestly cycle through the same 10-20 foods weekly! Hey, we all just want foods that work for us and taste good! Also, I LOVE that pb&j larabar <3.

    • [email protected] says

      July 22, 2015 at 12:32 pm

You are so right! Its much easier to just find what you like and stick with that. Although it is always good to try new things once in a while too!

  18. Annette @ Sweating Through Life says

    July 22, 2015 at 12:25 pm

I really don’t switch things up often. Last night we actually tried something new and it was delicious, so it will get put into our normal rotation. I do wish though, that I was more of a breakfast eater because I love breakfast foods, but I don’t like eating in the morning:(

    • [email protected] says

      July 22, 2015 at 12:34 pm

I just wish I had more time in the morning to make different breakfasts! I stick with the same frittatas every day because they are easy for me to make over the weekend. It definitely gets boring after awhile!

  19. Pam says

    July 22, 2015 at 12:56 pm

I am forever making new things for myself, but my husband is a different story. I cook separate meals for us (I’m vegan, he’s very much NOT vegan lol), and he only wants the same things alllllll the time. I get sick of making them. I have no idea how he’s not sick of eating them!

    • [email protected] says

      July 22, 2015 at 1:31 pm

There are definitely times when I get sick of eating the same things! But at least for you guys maybe it makes it a little easier to cook separate meals if he likes the same things all the time:)

I think it’s funny how many of us fall into these patterns, Lisa; I think it’s much easier this way, though! We definitely have a pattern at dinner; I usually cook something in the slow cooker on Monday, which we eat on Monday and then again on Wednesday. Friday is salmon night at our house and we often eat burrito bowls or some kind of Mexican-style dish on Thursdays. So funny! I love seeing these posts; I can usually find some new-to-me ideas.

    • [email protected] says

      July 22, 2015 at 7:14 pm

I feel like we do the same thing with weekly patterns! Its usually some combination of the same 6 meals with one night of eating out. I also like getting inspired by other blog posts!

    July 22, 2015 at 5:45 pm

    • [email protected] says

      July 23, 2015 at 5:40 am

Guilty as charged! I definitely eat a lot of the same things over and over again. No matter how often I’ve made plans to change this I haven’t really followed through with them.
Looking at your meals, though, I don’t think repeating them would be all too bad. And that ice cream …
