10 Minute Around the World Stability Ball Workout

This morning I couldn’t sleep past 4:30 am (on a Saturday!). I am usually an early riser, but this was a little crazy even for me. I might just be excited to see all my college friends at a wedding tonight, or maybe I wanted to make sure I got my run in before the snow started. Anyway, I did the usual coffee, bagel, banana routine and got ready to run. I came up with this stability ball workout that I thought I would share.

10 Minute Stability Ball Workout
(Disclaimer: I am not a personal trainer and just put together these exercises after learning them from my own experiences in physical therapy, group fitness classes, and personal training sessions).

I was out the door to start my run at 5:50am. I only saw 2 other runners the whole time. It was very strange for a Saturday. I haven’t ran since Sunday, since I am cutting back this month to rest up for spring training. I always find that after taking some time off it makes it SO much better to get back out there! Yesterday as I was leaving the gym I caught a glimpse of an awesome sun rise through my car window.

While each day this week I missed being outside running, the time off made it that much more amazing to be out there this morning. As runners we often want to do it all, right now. As we move form short term thinking to focusing on our long term goals, we can see the big picture of how we want running to fit into our lives. Hopefully, we will all have another chance to reach our goals and enjoy running. For me, it is still a process and I still get caught up in focusing on doing everything right now. I feel like the past few weeks have made me stronger as I have voluntarily taken time off from running (not due to an injury!) and let go of my type A training for a bit. Hopefully when I start spring marathon training, I will be more prepared mentally and physically for what the season has to bring.

What are your running plans for the weekend?

I agree! It can be hard to take a step back and slow down. This weekend I went to NYC for some sightseeing and took a day off from running, my usual long run day, and it felt really weird! It was also nice for a little break though!

I always feel really “off” if I don’t run on Saturday! I was actually in NY this weekend also! Wasn’t the snow so pretty?!

Yesterday’s’ long run was 16 miles with 6 x 1 Yesterday’s’ long run was 16 miles with 6 x 1 mile MP/1 mile easy. I took a few hours of PTO in the morning to do this on the trail because I knew wouldn’t be able to do it this weekend. This was my first time on the trail since my marathon last November. It was nice to be back there and the perfect place to do this kind of long run. It was the kind of run where you start thinking “ok cool I just did a tough MP workout” but then you remember you actually need to run 26 miles in a row at that pace. Luckily there’s still 9 more weeks of training…although that doesn’t really sound like that much!
41 miles for the week and got in 2 strength sessions. Taking it easy this weekend other than chasing the kids around for all their activities! #run #marathontraining #longrun
It’s kind of freeing to not care about pace. It It’s kind of freeing to not care about pace. It is a little frustrating to have to plan more time for an easy run. But it’s definitely worth it to recover quicker and feel better on workout days! #run #marathongtraining #easyrun
You know marathon training is starting to get real You know marathon training is starting to get real when you start losing track of what training week it is. I had to check my calendar but this was week 6, so 10 weeks to go!

I ran the Charles Street 12 last weekend so this week was all about easy miles and recovering from the race. That went well until I went and ran all the hills yesterday followed by walking around a maze and fun park for 5 hours. I got in some strength and mobility this morning and now I’m back to focusing on recovery!

If you’re training for a race how many weeks do you have left?

15 miles, over 1,100 feet of elevation gain, and 9 15 miles, over 1,100 feet of elevation gain, and 91% humidity 🫠 Pretty sure that was harder than my race last weekend, but got it done. Now off to my second workout of the day- taking the kids to an outdoor fun park. RIP to my legs.
What are you up to this weekend?
