Ready For Spring Miles

Most of this week was cold and windy, with some rain mixed in. The weekend was nice, but the mornings were still chilly. I don’t know about you, but I’m ready for some spring miles! I’m getting more and more tired of wearing all the layers and having to bundle up Grayson for our stroller runs (if they can even happen).

Most of this week was cold and windy, with some rain mixed in. The weekend was nice, but the mornings were still chilly. I don't know about you, but I'm ready for some spring miles!

Stroller Runs

I was able to get out with the stroller more this week than most other weeks, but it was still tricky. On Monday it was cold and I didn’t know how far we would make it, so I did a short treadmill run first. On Friday it was SOOO windy. I brought the wind cover for the stroller and tried to put it on, but there was a huge meltdown and it just wasn’t worth it. At least it wasn’t super windy in all directions.

Strength Training

As I shared in recent posts, I’ve been doing banded chin-ups with the hopes of doing a few unassisted ones at some point. This week I was able to (sort of) do a couple. I think I need to get a tad higher, but it’s progress.

Cut-Back Week

The plan was to make this week a cut-back week. My mileage was a little lower than it’s been over the last month or so. I was kind of glad to be doing a shorter long run on Saturday because I just wasn’t feeling it. Actually I wasn’t really feeling it for my speed work on Thursday either! Maybe that’s a sign that it was time for a cutback week. Hopefully next week will be better.

Ready for spring miles

After some warmer weather a few weeks ago, this week felt like winter again. Finally the weekend brought some sun and warmer temps. And now the calendar says it’s officially spring! I hope we can continue with some warmer weather and say goodbye to winter for good now.

We had similar weather here. I guess it was Winter’s last hurrah before the official start of Spring.

Awesome job on the pull-up progress!

I hope it was the last of winter weather this year! And thank you!

It was definitely super cold a couple of mornings here! I’m glad I can wait til it warms up. Even this morning was in the 20s, but it warmed up quickly, hooray!

A cut back week absolutely does the body good once in a while. I bet you’ll be feeling your runs more next week with more Spring-like weather.

I am hoping I will feel better this week with some warmer weather!

It sure was a crazy weather week here! I have decided I am done with gloves for the season. I am sure Grayson was happy to get out with you this week

      March 21, 2021 at 7:57 pm

That’s brave to give up gloves! I may still need them for a few more weeks. Sometimes I wear them when I start my run and then take them off as it warms up.

Once I start working with a coach I’m going to put pull ups high on my priority list. I’ve used bands, but I always felt like they were pulling me up without me having to do anything, so I couldn’t figure out how to get “there” from “here”.

Spring is here and it is so nice!

      March 21, 2021 at 7:58 pm

There are alot of different levels of resistance of bands so maybe you just need something lighter as you get stronger! Yay for spring arriving!

It was 43 when I headed out this morning and it warmed up quickly! Ahhh, the challenge of dressing for a spring run, lol. I could have worn shorts. But I didn’t get too warm, thankfully.

    Nice job on that chin-up!!!

Thank you! It really is warming up quickly these days. Today we ran at 7 and it was 30 degrees, but by the time we went outside to the park around 10 it was in the mid 50s!

oh wow, amazing work on the pullups! I am still using a band for assistance…and they are still so hard! 🙂

Hoping for true spring weather to come your way soon!

Thank you! I definitely agree the pull ups are hard. I can barely do one at time without the band. But a few weeks ago I couldn’t do any!

Pullups! My arch nemesis! I’ve been using a band, like, forever. If you feel you’ve made progress, could you post about how you approach it? Why are they so hard???
Our weather was really nice this week- which for us means, not too hot. Sending you wishes for a warmer week ahead!

I have a strength coach who programs my workouts and she has given me all different types of chin-ups/pullups over the past year. I don’t even remember what they are all called, but they have helped me build strength for sure! I’ll see if I can remember more about how I progressed and put something together.

It definitely felt more like Winter than Spring last week (at least it did before we left town). It was seasonably cool in Florida, though, but still warmer than Iowa LOL Great job on that chin-up! My week was a bit of a cut-back, too, and I felt zero regret 😉

I bet seasonably cool weather in Florida is still pretty nice! Especially compared to what you left behind!

Never tried chin-ups but I highly doubt I cold do one!

Our weather was miserable – cold, windy and even had rain… I wasn’t planning on a cutback week but….

Things improved over the weekend and this week looks a lot better weather-wise…fingers crossed.

Great job on your pull-up progress. I have always found those to be so challenging!

The weather was all over the play here too, but the forecast looks pretty good for the upcoming week. Hope you get some warmer temps too!

While the weekend was nicer, overall it was a really cold week. It got really cold overnight especially. The ponds even froze again, lightly but still! Strollers + wind = a royal PIA. Let’s hope spring is here to stay!

    • Lisa @ Mile By Mile says

      March 22, 2021 at 5:02 am

I am so desperate to get outside with Grayson but the wind is really tough for stroller runs. I also cant wait to not have to worry about his hands getting cold since he refuses to wear gloves and takes them out from under his blanket!

  13. Coco says

    March 21, 2021 at 10:14 pm

Chin-up or pull-up — I can do whichever is easier, or could before I fractured my hand. I’m not sure I’m ready to try again yet. It was cold on Monday, wasn’t it? Hopefully this week will be milder — and less windy! Not feeling your runs is definitely a sign to cut back!

    • Lisa @ Mile By Mile says

      March 22, 2021 at 5:04 am

My strength coach has me do chin ups with a neutral grip (I think thats what they’re called) where your hands are kind of facing in towards each other. I think thats the easiest one but she said it could be different for everyone. I’m definitely looking forward to a milder week of weather this week!

Great work on the pull-up – wow! We have spring here now which is nice, if slightly hay-fevery. I had a heavy week this last week so two gentler weeks then an attempt at a half-marathon …

Thank you! Glad you are getting some spring weather! Enjoy your cut back weeks and good luck in your half-marathon!

Great job with your pullups! I think that’s awesome and I’m so proud of you!

We went right back to winter this week, too. It was so sad 🙁

Thanks so much! Ugh, winter?! Well I guess the good news is you know that won’t last long. Maybe that’s not such good news though if you know summer weather will be there soon!

I know how you feel about this weather. It’s been so on and off here! I try so hard to be positive but these gray cold days are killing my spirit! Luckily last week on the few sunny days we had I got two good runs in. You’ve got the added challenge of having to bundle of Grayson as well. Obviously a very cute challenge, but still 🙂

well done on the chinups! I cannot do them to save my life. even with a band it’s hard. We also haven’t found the right place to put the bar in our new house but maybe once we do we can work on that again1

    • Lisa @ Mile By Mile says

      March 23, 2021 at 7:56 pm

I have had the bar for years but only started using it consistently over the last 6 months. Now that I’m actually doing them consistently I’m finally seeing progress!

  17. Debbie @ Deb Runs says

Poor Grayson, I can understand his frustration of not wanting to have the wind shield on him, but he must get cold without it.

Nice pull-up! About a year and a half ago, at the end of a class that I taught on how to use all of the equipment in the 55+ gym, one of the guys pointed to the chin-up bar and jokingly asked me to demo using it. I’m not sure who was more surprised, him or me, when I successfully did one pull-up. 😉
