“Late Night” Thinking Out Loud

1. I don’t think I will need to point out that today is Thursday because you will figure it out as you read today’s random post. It will probably be even more all over the place than usual because I am writing this at 9pm and I usually don’t blog anytime after 7pm. Plus,  had a glass of wine. Not enough to make this post really fun, but enough to produce extra scattered thoughts.

wine

2. This feels like the longest week ever…that must be because a 3 day weekend is approaching. I’m crossing my fingers for some nice weather and maybe a chance at getting my pale skin a bit of color! I haven’t looked ahead at this weekend’s weather (it always changes anyway) but this week has been all over the place- hot and humid one day, rainy and cool another…so I have no idea what to expect.

3. Just as I have no idea what to expect when I step outside to run in the morning. I didn’t realize that on Tuesday it was going to rain but I walked outside and it was super misty and I felt like I was running in a rainforest. It felt good though, especially when it started drizzling at the end. However, I’m pretty sure a bug flew at my face at one point and that was not as fun. Pretty sure it stuck to my cheek and I spent the next quarter mile making sure I wiped it off.

4. Rob would like to thank you all for the birthday wishes yesterday! I don’t think he ever would have imagined that people he has never met would be wishing him a happy birthday.

birthday drink

5. We celebrated last night by going out to dinner. Luckily Facebook reminded me that it was his birthday.

facebook

6. As promised, there was more dessert tonight, but it was brownies instead of cake.

brownies

7. Rob is a year older than me so whenever he turns a new age it gets me thinking about how I am approaching that age as well. (Well he is actually a year and a half older so I still have to turn 32 before I get to 33 which is what he turned yesterday). I then remembered that its been exactly 10 years since I graduated college. I have no idea where the time went!

graduation

10 years ago I would be just getting ready to go out at this time of night; now I am complaining that it’s the middle of the night. So I think that’s a good place to end this- the later it gets the worse my typing and thinking will get 😃

thinking out loud

Thanks, Amanda!

How long have you been out of college for?

What is the latest time that you usually blog? Usual bed time?

Ever have bugs fly into your face while running?

I do my best writing with a glass of wine in hand! Bugs and running just do not mix. I usually finish my Spring/Summer run covered with an average of like, oh… 10 little bugs (the size of fruit flies) that literally drown in my sweat and stick to my neck, face and shoulders. SICK. And badass too.

    • [email protected] says

      May 21, 2015 at 8:20 pm

I know exactly what you mean about the bugs sticking to the sweat- oh the joys of summer running!

Our pool opens this weekend but I don’t think it will be pool weather from the forecast I saw but really, who knows. I don’t even want it that hot because I think I may run a race on Sunday in Long Beach (still didn’t decide). I have been out of college since 2000 which is just crazy to me! And I am a morning person and a morning writer, it’s rare that I can even look at my blog by dinner time!

    • [email protected] says

      May 21, 2015 at 8:23 pm

If all goes well I am done with blog stuff by dinner time, but lately that hasn’t been the case. And wouldn’t it be nice it we had a sunny but not humid weekend?

  3. Susie @ SuzLyfe says

    May 21, 2015 at 6:55 am

It is a cruel joke that I am getting used to some warmer temps here while it is in the 40s in Chicago and will likely be when I return. Like, WTH? This year is our 5th year reunion for undergrad, and several of my friends are going, and Alex and I were like… um… #werepoor. Try 10 years!

    • [email protected] says

      May 21, 2015 at 8:25 pm

Hopefully it will warm up when you get back! And its different for my reunions since I went to school in the same area where I live…but I still won’t be attending my 10 year reunion because I’ll be away that weekend.

Uggh, I did a nighttime run last night and I think I ate 10 bugs and had 2 get stuck in my eyes…not fun!!

I hate when they get in my eyes! Thats the worst!

😆 Omg I was just thinking about that the other day — how I used to get ready to go out at around 9 PM, and now I’m getting ready to go to bed. I actually have no idea how I used to keep the hours that I did, but I’m pretty sure there’s no way I’d be able to do that now. Heck, some days I’m waking up at the time that I used to be coming home…

    • [email protected] says

      May 21, 2015 at 8:26 pm

I definitely wake up now at the time I used to come home! Its so weird how much things have changed, but theres no way I could handle that lifestyle these days:)

  6. Michele @ paleorunningmomma says

    May 21, 2015 at 8:10 am

I can’t blog as night, I’m not creative or useful in any way! I find that when I don’t run I don’t check the weather at all and have no idea what’s happening outside. Another perk of running I guess? It’s been 11 years since college for me, crazy little reminder 🙂

    • [email protected] says

      May 21, 2015 at 8:29 pm

For some reason I haven’t been paying much attention to the weather lately. I’ll check right before I go out to run and thats it. But today it was rainy and only 50 degree during the day and I definitely didnt dress warm enough when I went to work!

haha I absolutely love this post! I can’t believe I graduated college 4 years ago. That hit me last weekend when my friend went to her sisters graduation at the school we graduated from and she wasn’t even there when we were ther :/ #mindblown

Happy belated birthday to rob! Those brownies look on point – Along with the cake in yesterday’s post.

I think that the years after college really fly by. Whenever I think about how long I have been out it makes me feel so old!

  8. Cheryl says

    May 21, 2015 at 9:00 am

I usually blog during the day, if I wait until night, all the kids are using the computer for their homework!
    I REALLY dislike bugs–but “tis the season…
It has been OVER 20 years for me since college–Yikes, I am old.

    • [email protected] says

      May 21, 2015 at 8:52 pm

I seriously feel like I will blink and I will have been out of college for 20 years too. Time is just going so fast!

  9. Sam @ The Running Graduate says

    May 21, 2015 at 9:01 am

I got a bug in my eye the other day and thought “first one of the season”. I really need to invest in some sunglasses. I finished college one year ago YESTERDAY! I can’t believe it! Grad school doesn’t really feel like college. It’s just the weird stepping stone/road block between college and real life.

    • [email protected] says

      May 21, 2015 at 8:55 pm

I have running sunglasses but I haven’t been wearing them in the mornings because the sun is still coming up, but maybe I need to!
Grad school was so different than undergrad for me…I was working full time and living with a friend (not someone from grad school) and not living near campus…so I felt very disconnected from the program.I remember going out with my classmates a handful of times, but that was about it. (To the Towson bars, of course! Which then made me feel old seeing all the undergrads out)

  10. Maddie @ Dixie Runs says

    May 21, 2015 at 9:06 am

Happy late birthday Rob!! Last night Thomas and I were getting into bed around 10:00 and we were talking about how we couldn’t possibly imagine getting ready to go to the bar like we would have been doing a few years ago when we were in college. It’s so crazy how much changes in your 20s!!

    • [email protected] says

      May 21, 2015 at 8:31 pm

I know! I think I was able to keep up that lifestyle for about a year out of college but then having a job and real life caught up with me and I stared realizing it was much better to go to bed at a reasonable time:)

  11. Laura @ This Runner's Recipes says

    May 21, 2015 at 9:47 am

It’s been three years since I graduated college and it amazes me how fast those three years have gone! My normal bedtime is 9-10PM and, like you said, that’s when I normally would leave to go out in college! By grad school I think I was following asleep on top of books by that time, though.

    • [email protected] says

      May 21, 2015 at 8:32 pm

Watch out, you will blink and you will have been out for 10 years! Grad school was definitely different than undergrad for me too, probably since i was also working a full time job.

  12. Jamie says

    May 21, 2015 at 9:49 am

Ugh I’ve totally swallowed bugs while running, or had one fly into my eye. I’ve been out of college for 5 years and it seems like now the time I was pre-gaming/getting ready to go out (10pm) I’m more like welp… if I’m still in I’m not moving off the couch! Hope you have a great Thursday!!

    • [email protected] says

      May 21, 2015 at 8:33 pm

Yea there is definitely no way you could get me to out anytime after 8pm these days! Id rather do a happy hour and be in bed by 9pm:)

  13. Hollie says

    May 21, 2015 at 10:09 am

I’m the same way that I don’t have the mental focus to blog after 7pm. I’m normally sleeping and relaxing. I’m the same way and cannot fathom where the time is going. My brother graduates next month and it’s so nuts!

    • [email protected] says

      May 21, 2015 at 8:35 pm

It’s definitely nice to have time to relax in the evenings rather than worrying about getting blog stuff done! I hope to get back to a better routine eventually, but lately my schedule has been kind of crazy! I think the older we get, the faster the time goes!

  14. Sarah @pickyrunner says

    May 21, 2015 at 11:05 am

It’s so strange that the weather went from 40 to 90 to 50s again today. It makes no sense and I was actually cold walking to work this morning, which is insane. Running yesterday morning was a nice change from all the humidity, although I do enjoy really hot runs for some strange reason. And it’s so funny- this week is FLYING by for me but last week felt like it dragged on forever. I am very much looking forward to the whole three day weekend thing though.
And I pretty much do all of my blog writing during downtime at work these days, which we have a decent amount of in the mornings. Once I’m home from work, I’m nowhere near my laptop and I much prefer it that way.

    • [email protected] says

      May 21, 2015 at 8:38 pm

I do complain about the humidity but really I kind of like the warm runs. They are definitely tough and I slow down but its SOO much better than the freezing cold!
And that’s funny because last week went much faster for me than this week!

  15. Sara says

    May 21, 2015 at 11:12 am

Don’t make me say it out loud! I’ve been out of college for 13 years. That’s just crazy. I’m usually trying to be in bed for sleeping by 10. If I blog at night, I’m usually not getting to it until about 8 or 9. That’s why I’ve been so MIA lately…I just haven’t felt like it.
Bugs in the face? All the time. Just yesterday one was stuck in my eyelashes…totally grosses me out.

    • [email protected] says

      May 21, 2015 at 8:40 pm

Don’t you just love the humid, sticky Maryland summers? Haha.
My blogging times are pretty random, but I definitely prefer to get as much as I can done in the mornings.

  16. Jacqueline @ Mam On The Run says

    May 21, 2015 at 12:05 pm

Oh My God! I must be the granny of the group – I graduated 23 years ago!! That’s probably longer than some of you have been alive.

I swallowed a fly so big today when out running I thought it might have actually been a bird!

I like to blog just after I’ve run. If I did it at night, after a glass of wine, it would be even more absurd than normal.

    • [email protected] says

      May 21, 2015 at 8:41 pm

I think sometimes its fun to blog after a little wine:) But I do come up with my best blog posts while Im running. By the way, I tried to comment on your blog earlier and it kept thinking I was spam.

  17. Hayley @ Full of Life says

    May 21, 2015 at 12:05 pm

A glass of wine always gets the creative juices flowing 😉 Sometimes on a weekend night when I am going to bed at like 11 I remember I would’ve just been going out to a club at that time if I were in college…and I’m only 24! Haha!

    • [email protected] says

      May 21, 2015 at 8:43 pm

I think that for most of us once we leave college our routines change pretty quickly! And blogging after a glass of wine can definitely be fun:)

  18. Michael Anderson says

    May 21, 2015 at 1:57 pm

Happy belated birthday to Rob 🙂 Lisa is 6 months older than me so I get a little time to give her crap before I’m the same age … which reminds me – she turns 50 in a few months 🙂

Our of college? 27 years as of last weekend. Wow … I wonder where it goes and then think about sending my oldest son off to NYU in the fall and say ‘oh yeah’. 😉

I don’t demand all that much sleep. My Garmin app tells me that I average in the 4.5 – 5 hour range most nights, and since I get up at 3:45AM, that means bed time ~10:30-11. Before bed I do some sort of reading or playing a little bit of a video game, mostly on my laptop at this point.

We’re in the same sort of funky weather stuff – had to pull out a couple of warmer items again for this week … arrgh! 🙂

    • [email protected] says

      May 21, 2015 at 8:48 pm

While its always weird to think about how long its been since college I think when we really look back at it, there are so many things that happened since then and all the good memories make me feel a little better about it:)
Wow, as far as your sleep goes, you are pretty much Superman! I do my best with 8 hours of sleep and I think if I had my way I would sleep from 9-5 every night. But lately i have been transitioning to getting up at 4:30, which gives me more time to beat the traffic into work in the mornings, and just sets me up for a better day (after a quick workout, of course).
I think I am ready for it to be officially summer…I’m sure I will get sick of the heat once its here but I think I would prefer consistent weather!

  19. Beth @ RUNNING around my kitchen says

    May 21, 2015 at 3:14 pm

Oh I’ve been out of college for awhile….15 years. Yikes! I either blog first thing in the morning or when the boys are napping….or it gets away from me entirely 🙂 I’m so much more of a morning person and pretty much worthless at night!

    • [email protected] says

      May 21, 2015 at 8:48 pm

I am definitely a morning person as well! Replying to comments is about all I can handle at night:)

  20. Charissa says

    May 21, 2015 at 3:29 pm

I love your fun random thoughts!! I had wine last night too! But I had a glass of some yummy white bordeaux 🙂
Bugs during a run = no fun! It was so sticky and humid on Tuesday here too and I decided to go for a short trail run with a buddy. I had bugs sticking to my face, arms, and legs! I felt so dirty after that run…
I will sometimes write at night…but I typically save it as a draft and read over it in the morning/afternoon before I post it because I know my thoughts are not so coherent at night with some wine in me either 😉

    • [email protected] says

      May 21, 2015 at 8:50 pm

Oh no! I bet if I was on the trails on Tuesday I would have been dealing with the same thing. I also like to start my posts as a draft and check it later…certain posts I will work on several times throughout the day. I’d rather do it that way than try to write the whole post at night!

I’m terrible at writing during the week. I try to get a couple done on the weekends and schedule them to post during the week. I spend all day looking at a screen of some sort, and my eyes are SHOT by the evening.

But… when I DO write during the week, I prefer to do it with a glass of wine! The words just flow so much better. 🙂

    • [email protected] says

      May 22, 2015 at 8:28 am

I used to do a lot of writing on the weekend which left me more time during the week to just read other blogs, comment, and reply to comments. But when the weekends get busy it throws me off, and I end up just doing blog stuff whenever I have a free minute! But yes, wine can definitely help with creativity:)

I had a bug fly into my eye tonight on my run with my pup! Eww! I usually don’t blog late at night, but then again I don’t have a “typical” blogging time either. And I’ve been out of college for 11 years! So I’m one year older than you! 🙂
