This week we had our first snow of the year on Thursday. This fall snowstorm brought sleet, freezing rain, and about 2 inches of snow. It was enough to close schools on Thursday and cause a delayed opening on Friday. The weather prevented me from running outside on those two days and I opted for the treadmill instead. I felt like this week was all thrown off!
As much as I love a good snow day, just because schools are closed my job doesn’t stop and I was working from home. However, there were things I needed to do in the office and I couldn’t get in. (My office is now located in the back of a school). Usually I can plan for potential snow days by bringing things home with me or staying late the day before, but this was pretty unexpected! I really thought it would end up just being rain.
Overall I felt like I was slowing down even more this week. But that’s to be expected, right? When I ran on the treadmill I stopped a bunch of times to drink water or walk a little. Outside I tend to still run the whole time unless there’s a big hill or something and I just feel like I need a break. Once in a while I surprise myself with my paces and other times I really just ignore them.
Monday: 5 miles
It was chilly but in a good way! I think I’m used to the colder weather now and 38 degrees feels good as long as there’s not much wind. (Also, I think my body temperature is just generally higher from being pregnant which works in my favor for cold weather running!)
Tuesday: Strength training
No time for both running and strength training so skipped the run.
Wednesday: 5 miles
As I got dressed for my run I realized I didn’t have any clean running shirts that fit and were warm enough. So I pulled out one of Rob’s shirts which ended up working out just fine. It was a fitted shirt for him so it didn’t look too weird on me.
Thursday: 3 miles and strength training
This was the day of the snow. I started with strength training and then hopped on the treadmill for 3 miles.
Friday: 6 miles
Another treadmill run. This ended up taking forever between running slower and stopping to drink water and walk. Luckily we had a delayed opening and I also had a doctor’s appointment in the morning so I wasn’t so rushed. It’s just crazy how much longer it takes me to do these runs now!
Saturday: 5 miles
It felt so good to get outside again! The snow on the sidewalks had melted but I still felt like I had to watch out for slick spots. It’s was weird to see so many leaves on the ground and also snow on the grass! What season is it?!
Sunday: 3 miles
It was chilly out but pretty good running weather! I noticed that on both Saturday and Sunday my paces were faster than they have been during the week. Maybe it’s because of getting extra sleep on the weekends? Who knows.
Another week down, and only 5 more to go! I expect these last few weeks will bring even less running and even slower miles, but hopefully I can keep getting out there!
