All The Important Thoughts

I had alot of important thoughts this week that I wanted to share today, but of course they went out of my brain as fast as they came in. Please note my sarcasm, as my random thoughts are rarely important. So let’s see what I can remember, mostly based on the pictures I have saved on my iPhone.

1. If you woke up on a Monday morning and saw this in the trash can, would you be concerned?

bottle caps

Don’t worry, I quickly realized that Rob just cleaned out out bottle opener; there were no wild parties that I missed.

bottle opener

2. What do you do when you go to a hot yoga class and realize the area you are in smells really bad before the class even started? Well, there’s not much you can do. Eventually you get used to the smell and before you know it everyone smells bad, so it doesn’t matter anymore.

yoga

3. Has anyone seen “Tiny House Hunters” on HGTV? We were watching this the other day, and I just don’t get it.  Some of these places didn’t even have room for a bed or a bathroom sink! Downsizing is one thing, but this just takes it to a whole different level.

4. It seems like it’s impossible to get used to summer running weather this year. Just when I feel like I am starting to adjust, we have a bunch of cooler days. Then, when it gets hot again I need to acclimate all over again.

hot run

5. I haven’t been able to find any of my handheld water bottles since the move. The most I have run since moving is 9 miles, and it was cooler that day, so I was ok without water. But if I do any more than that I will need to figure something out!

6. If you ever need to get your lizard or iguana groomed I have the place for you to go.

grooming

7. We moved our pizza night from Sunday to Monday this week because we went to dinner with my family on Sunday. We were both really excited all day Monday knowing we got to eat this for dinner.

pizza

8. Sorry I didn’t post yesterday! Its become kind of a routine to post Monday through Friday, but some days I just don’t have anything to talk about. If you knew me in real life you would totally understand. It’s pretty crazy that I have as much to say on here as I do.

9. I hope you didn’t come to this post hoping to read anything that was actually important. If so, you are definitely in the wrong place!

thinking out loud

Thanks, Amanda!

What do you think of the show “Tiny House Hunters”?

Have you ever been in a smelly yoga class? Are you ever the smelly person?

Has the weather been consistent where you live?

Funny stuff – between Lisa and the boys sometimes you never know what you’ll find on tables or in trash… well also me, but I know my own stuff 😉

I have read a bunch of those extreme minimal house things online, but haven’t seen the show (or knew it existed). Considering we live in a pretty sprawling house (~4250sq ft … really too big for even 4 of us) I would like to downsize once the kids are out of college … but not THAT much!

And definitely know what you mean … today was another 15F temperature swing at 4AM. Seems my mornings are either 50F or 70F for runs … not complaining, just weird.

While not ‘global importance’ … this was a great and fun ‘TOL’ post 🙂

I couldn’t imagine going from a rather large house to something so tiny; in some of the places on the show the men could barely stand up inside or fit into the bathroom!
We haven’t had anything as low as 50 degrees in a while, but for about a week it was consistently 60 which is very low for this time of year around here! It was a nice break, but now I am suffering as I adjust to warmer temps again!

It’s been really humid these past few mornings! Not so much hot, just humid. At least the sun hasn’t been strong at the same time – that’s what really gets me. I think I noticed the title of Tiny House Hunters but haven’t watched it. Did you ever go to “Tiny Town” when you lived here? It’s in North Merrick – we were just talking about it the other day! I want to show my son, it’s the tiniest, oldest neighborhood of streets from the 1800’s – you can barely drive down the block it’s so small.

      July 10, 2015 at 8:51 am

I don’t think I ever went there but I will have to ask my mom! It sounds familiar, but I can’t picture ever having been there. I couldn’t imagine living in a tiny house or even a small street like that!

  3. Erin says

I kind of want to live in a tiny house. I’ve been really interested in them since I watched the documentary about the guy who built a tiny house on Netflix. Though, my apartment is pretty small and it gets on my nerves, so I don’t know if I’d make it in a tiny house. I’m tiny though, so maybe? 🙂

    • [email protected] says

      July 10, 2015 at 8:52 am

I guess it could be fun to try! But its definitely a commitment to buy something like that without knowing how it would feel. My apartments have always been relatively spacious, so I don’t think I would do too well in a tiny house!

  4. jill conyers says

My husband is obsessed with Tiny House!! My son moves out in Aug to go to college and my daughter will do the same. I’m convinced he is going to try and convince me to go tiny house right after our daughter moves out. I’m all for downsizing but that’s craziness!

    • [email protected] says

      July 10, 2015 at 8:53 am

I couldn’t imagine living in a place that small! My mom wants to downsize now that my sister and I are both moved out, but my dad likes his big house. Even still, they would never go with anything tiny like on that show!

  5. Susie @ SuzLyfe says

    July 9, 2015 at 7:33 am

I love tiny house hunters. Alex and I have had discussions about this. He doesn’t think that I would be able to do it, but then I have to gently remind him that I basically did while I was in NYC and when I lived in a single in dorms. I could totally do the micro houses–you really do pare down to essentials. I would have more issues with just small houses. Because then you start to accumulate house type stuff, rather than just embracing the lifestyle.

    • [email protected] says

      July 10, 2015 at 8:55 am

Yea, I think the idea of having a “house” but it being so small could be confusing. You would really need to get rid of most things that aren’t a necessity! Although I did think about how much easier it would be to clean…..

  6. Tara @ Running 'n' Reading says

    July 9, 2015 at 7:59 am

Oh, my gosh, Lisa; the tiny house thing cracks me up! It’s almost like this ridiculous challenge to see who can live/coexist in the smallest amount of space and make it seem hip-ha! Sometimes, the things I see in our trash can do worry me, too; I’m glad I’m not the only one who has to solve morning mysteries! Love this! Hope you have a great day!

    • [email protected] says

      July 10, 2015 at 8:55 am

It does seem like the latest trend/challenge, right?! I definitely don’t think its for me, even temporarily.

  7. Sam @ See Sam Run says

I LOVE the bottle opener! I know what’s going on my eventual wedding registry… I feel the same way with the weather. It’s been pretty mild here for the most part, but then we get a couple of crazy hot/humid days. Add in being in MD for a week and I’m all kinds of messed up!

    • [email protected] says

      July 10, 2015 at 8:56 am

Hopefully its not as humid in NY as it is down here! The past few days have been brutal.

  8. Michele @ paleorunningmomma says

    July 9, 2015 at 8:24 am

So many things in this post made me laugh! First the garbage, yes I’d be concerned! That’s too funny. Also the fact that you have as much to say as you do on here, because I can relate! And I second the crazy summer weather, I can’t see myself adjusting to this, it’s been rough this week.

    • [email protected] says

      July 10, 2015 at 8:57 am

This week’s weather felt SO terrible. And as much as I would like for it to cool down again, I know it will make things harder for me to adjust to the humidity when it returns. Its like we can’t win!

  9. Alyssa @ Renaissancerunnergirl says

    July 9, 2015 at 8:53 am

The summer is taking a toll on me too – the humidity is CRAZY here and makes me feel like I am sweating buckets every time I hit the pavement.

I felt SO gross after running 10 miles yesterday. Just dripping sweat everywhere. All my clothes went into the washer immediately.

  10. Jamie says

    July 9, 2015 at 8:55 am

I’m so fascinated by people who can live in these tiny little spaces… I read an article in the NY Times about a woman who lives in a 102 ft square apartment in NYC. WHAT? Like how do you function? I am not simplistic enough to make that type of lifestyle work. And I have totally put on gym clothes and the second I start to perspire I start smelling… sometimes I find my older gym clothes, no matter what, always smell 🙁

    • [email protected] says

      July 10, 2015 at 8:59 am

I am not simplistic enough to live in a tiny space either! I had the same problem with older gym clothes. I found some nice smelling crystal things that I add to the wash and it makes them smell better, I forget what they are called. I also find that when I used better (read: more expensive) laundry detergent it helps also.

  11. Cori @ She's Going the Distance says

    July 9, 2015 at 9:12 am

totally agree with you and the “tiny” houses. I need space. I think it’s why i’m outside so much. LOVE me some personal space haha

    • [email protected] says

      July 10, 2015 at 9:09 am

I need space too!! If I lived in something that small I would never be inside.

That trash can shot is awesome! Reminds me of college.

I feel like the humidity is terrible this summer–worse than normal? Or is it just me? Even when we get the temperature breaks, it’s there!

    • [email protected] says

      July 10, 2015 at 9:10 am

I do think its been worse this year…not necessary the heat, just that humidity! Even on cooler days its brutal!

  13. Lesley says

    July 9, 2015 at 9:43 am

The summer’s been mild-ish, but we have the heat coming in after yesterday’s rain. It’s July, so I knew it was coming. The heat makes me want to skip cardio but I always try to make an effort to get to the gym.

    • [email protected] says

      July 10, 2015 at 9:10 am

Yea, I figure it summer so its supposed to be hot, right? But it is tough when you get used to cooler weather.

  14. Amanda @ .running with spoons. says

    July 9, 2015 at 10:14 am

Ooooo. I -did- need to get my iguana groomed. Good to know 😛 And I feel like our weather has been super crazy this summer too. I don’t do well in the heat, so working outside has pretty much become impossible for me. Sometimes I’ll hang out in the gym extra long just for the AC 😛

    • [email protected] says

      July 10, 2015 at 9:12 am

What is it with the crazy weather this summer? I also just want to be in the AC all the time.

  15. Sarah @pickyrunner says

    July 9, 2015 at 10:26 am

I always noticed that Charm City Yoga had a funky smell to it. Sid Yoga seems to do a better job managing the sweaty stench, but I definitely know exactly what you mean. Not pleasant but eventually everyone will smell bad anyways so it’s pretty much temporary until your nose gets used to it.
And YES to the weather. God I went out today and came back dripping wet whereas a few days ago I was almost chilly. It makes no sense. Baltimore summers are weird. That’s the only conclusion I can make.

    • [email protected] says

      July 10, 2015 at 9:13 am

I hadn’t noticed a smell at CCY until this time. I do think CCYs classes are much hotter than Sids (but I only went there once) so that may have something to do with it.
No clue whats happening with the weather! But this week has been gross.

  16. Sara says

    July 9, 2015 at 10:32 am

The weather has been consistently humid! Both of my runs this week were in 90-something % humidity. Even when I’m doing something short, I take water with me when it’s this humid. I’d like to find an decent insulated bottle though, I like to freeze my water bottle overnight or add ice cubes and the bottle I have now gets cold in my hands.

    • [email protected] says

      July 10, 2015 at 9:14 am

That’s a good idea to freeze your water! I will need to do that once I find a good bottle:)

  17. Victoria at Ice Packs + Races says

    July 9, 2015 at 11:19 am

Oh, yes. Smelly yoga rooms are definitely a thing during a Bikram class, but I just wait for the moment I can’t notice it anymore too! I also get that a tiny house is a good option for some people, and I like reading stories of people building their own to meet their specific needs…but house hunting for one just sounds super weird.

    • [email protected] says

      July 10, 2015 at 9:15 am

I’ve never been to bikram but I would imagine the class can get a little smelly since those classes are so hot!
I do think its kinda cool to build your own small house. But I agree, kind of weird to go looking for one!

  18. Morgan @ Morgan Manages Mommyhood says

    July 9, 2015 at 11:32 am

You know, there have been so many times I’ve almost given up on my ill-kempt iguana, and I’m so glad that the there is now an option! Hahaha my husband loves that tiny house show. Our house is VERY small, 500 ish sq feet, but those houses make mine look like a mansion. Stupid, if you ask me.

    • [email protected] says

      July 10, 2015 at 9:33 am

I suppose the show is entertaining, but not at all practical!

  19. Emily says

    July 9, 2015 at 11:48 am

I think that would be slightly unpleasant walking into an already smelly workout room, but I guess you just have to push past it and shoulder through. That ‘iguana’ grooming looks HILARIOUS. 😀 How do you brush an iguana?

    • [email protected] says

      July 10, 2015 at 9:34 am

No clue about the iguana thing! And the initial stench was rough, but I guess you just get used to it.

  20. Hailey says

    July 9, 2015 at 11:57 am

Ha that is too funny about all the bottle caps:) And I love your yoga mat! I feel you with the summer! I feel like I’m really struggling this year, and it’s been humid for us here. Today, I don’t even think we made it into the 80’s when I ran this morning, which is really nice for us, but I know that niceness is going to be short lived! I’ve never seen tiny house hunters, but I think I need to check it out just for entertainment’s sake!

Your pizza always looks good to me because we have similar tastes in toppings:). Is that ricotta or mozzarella? I’m a big fan of chunks like that on my pizza rather than just having the cheese grated over the whole thing…nothing beats a big bite of ooey gooey cheese 🙂

    • [email protected] says

      July 10, 2015 at 9:34 am

Its mozzarella! Definitely good in chunks on a pizza:)

  21. Maddie @ Dixie Runs says

    July 9, 2015 at 12:04 pm

That is so funny you posted that about the bottle opener. We have one above out trash can that is a magnet and Thomas recently cleaned it off and threw all the caps in the trash and I had the exact same thought! I was like what in the world did I miss last night!?

    • [email protected] says

      July 10, 2015 at 9:35 am

So funny, right?! We don’t empty it very often so its always funny to see that many caps at once.

  22. Laura @ This Runner's Recipes says

    July 9, 2015 at 12:24 pm

I love that bottle opener! Back in college when I used to teach Pilates/yoga, the room we were in was between the cardio room and weight room, so it always stank. Like, a few times it smelled like rotten eggs and I thought I was going to pass out. It wasn’t the best air-conditioned either, but that’s another story…

    • [email protected] says

      July 10, 2015 at 9:36 am

Oh, that sounds pretty awful! Must have been really hard to work out in those conditions!

  23. Niki @ Life With Niki says

What an amazing looking pizza- that cheese is phenomenal! Speaking of the weather, it is practically ALWAYS the same here in California. All year round. It will be ‘slightly’ hot, rainy, and windy all year round, and it honestly does not diverge much. We have nothing to complain about ;).

    • [email protected] says

I need to move to California!!

  24. Charissa says

    July 9, 2015 at 1:27 pm

Your picture of pizza makes me want some right now! I’ve also been in smelly yoga classes before but it’s true that after a few minutes, you don’t really notice it anymore. You get so focused on your workout you forget about the things around you. That’s something I love about yoga for sure!

    • [email protected] says

      July 10, 2015 at 9:37 am

Exactly! While I wish it didn’t smell at all, at least you don’t notice it pretty quickly into class.

  25. Suzy says

    July 9, 2015 at 1:53 pm

OMG the bottle cap scene reminds me of a long time ago, when my first husband and I were together, we’d dump out condom wrappers into the side table drawer. He also used to get really itchy ears so he’d have a pile of used Q Tips in that drawer as well. One day we decided to empty out the drawer into our garbage bag, and put it out on garbage day. A crow got into the bag and there were condom wrappers and Q Tips strewn all over our driveway. We lived in a townhouse complex and so our neighbors probably thought we had some weird fetish. So funny!!!

I agree with the weather! I really love hot sunny summer weather and really wish it would stick around- even if that means running is more difficult. At least we would have a chance to acclimate!

The beer caps in the trash can = domestic forensics. You know, you come home from work and you figure out what your partner was doing all day just from looking around the house. It’s not SNOOPING, it’s like what happened to you- you NOTICED all the beer bottle caps. I even have a domestic forensics theme song, which I will sing to you if we ever meet hahaha!

    • [email protected] says

      July 10, 2015 at 9:39 am

We have a similar bottle opener and it’s QUITE full right now, especially because of this heat and humidity we’ve been experiencing in Boston and it just seems appropriate to go for a beer more often than not!

Yesterday’s’ long run was 16 miles with 6 x 1 Yesterday’s’ long run was 16 miles with 6 x 1 mile MP/1 mile easy. I took a few hours of PTO in the morning to do this on the trail because I knew wouldn’t be able to do it this weekend. This was my first time on the trail since my marathon last November. It was nice to be back there and the perfect place to do this kind of long run. It was the kind of run where you start thinking “ok cool I just did a tough MP workout” but then you remember you actually need to run 26 miles in a row at that pace. Luckily there’s still 9 more weeks of training…although that doesn’t really sound like that much!
41 miles for the week and got in 2 strength sessions. Taking it easy this weekend other than chasing the kids around for all their activities! #run #marathontraining #longrun
It’s kind of freeing to not care about pace. It It’s kind of freeing to not care about pace. It is a little frustrating to have to plan more time for an easy run. But it’s definitely worth it to recover quicker and feel better on workout days! #run #marathongtraining #easyrun
You know marathon training is starting to get real You know marathon training is starting to get real when you start losing track of what training week it is. I had to check my calendar but this was week 6, so 10 weeks to go!

I ran the Charles Street 12 last weekend so this week was all about easy miles and recovering from the race. That went well until I went and ran all the hills yesterday followed by walking around a maze and fun park for 5 hours. I got in some strength and mobility this morning and now I’m back to focusing on recovery!

If you’re training for a race how many weeks do you have left?

#run #runner #marathontraining #richmondmarathon
15 miles, over 1,100 feet of elevation gain, and 9 15 miles, over 1,100 feet of elevation gain, and 91% humidity 🫠 Pretty sure that was harder than my race last weekend, but got it done. Now off to my second workout of the day- taking the kids to an outdoor fun park. RIP to my legs.
What are you up to this weekend?
