Babymoon in Dever, CO

I wanted to get this post up last week after we got back from our babymoon, but it just didn’t happen. Better late than never, right? When we were trying to make our travel plans at the last minute it was helpful to read other blogs about what people did in different cities on their babymoons, and it gives me an excuse to share some of the pictures we took! If you want to read more about the running we did in Denver, check out this post.

Babymoon in Denver, CO

Logistics

We stayed at two different hotels because of our last minute travel plans. First, we spent a night at the Warwick. We went to the pool there on Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning. Then we moved hotels and went to the Westin, where we stayed for the rest of the trip. Both hotels were downtown and there were plenty of restaurants and things to do within walking distance, but it was also really easy to get an Uber to get around!

Wednesday

We flew in on Wednesday morning and got to our hotel around lunch time. We walked around to look for lunch and ended up finding Park & Co just down the street. Then we headed to the rooftop pool for a few hours. It was relatively small but we were able to get chairs and there weren’t many other people up there.

baseball game

That evening we decided to get tickets to the Rockies game. The stadium was about a mile from the hotel so we walked there and stopped for dinner on our way. We ended up eating at Ignite Kitchen and Bar before going into the stadium. We didn’t stay for the full game because we were tired and on east coast time, but the Rockies ended up winning!

Coors Field

Thursday

We started Thursday morning with a 3.5 mile run around the downtown area. Then we grabbed breakfast at the hotel. We went for the buffet which was a little expensive but really good! After some pool time we packed up and headed to the other hotel. We had early dinner reservations at Guard and Grace because it was the only time we could get in there! This was probably our best meal of the trip. I got the filet and it was one of the best I’ve ever had.

After dinner we walked around and realized there was a beer garden right behind our hotel. While I obviously couldn’t indulge, it was a fun place to hang out. It was free to get in and then just a few dollars for beer. There were some games and music too.

Friday

The morning started out with another run, this time on the Cherry Creek Trail. It was maybe a half a mile from our hotel, so we ran there and then just did an out and back.

We spent the day at the pool and it was HOT. There was no shade or umbrellas and not a single cloud in the sky.

We had some time before dinner so played a round of mini-golf at the beer garden. It was a hard course and we ended up tying 😉

That night we went to Venice Restaurant and Wine Bar which was about a mile from our hotel. (It was so nice to be able to walk to all of our dinners!) They had all homemade pasta which was delicious. We were stuffed when we were finished so took the long way to walk back to our hotel. When we got back we just ended up hanging out for a little bit in the hotel bar area.

Saturday

We ran to a trail that was a little farther away along the Platte River. It was quiet without many other runners out. We did 6 miles, which was a little more than we planned.

Once again we spent the day at the pool. It got so hot to the point where around 3 I had to call it quits and go back to the room to cool off. I ended up taking a nap before dinner which felt great in the AC.

For dinner that night we ate at the Palm which was in our hotel. The Raiders were staying at our hotel that weekend so we saw lots of players at dinner!

dinner Saturday

We walked around a bit after dinner and then hung out at the beer garden for a little while. After Rob had a drink, we walked across the street to the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory for some dessert before heading back to our room to pack.

saturday night

Considering it was a last minute trip, everything worked out really well! It felt like a good mix of staying busy while also getting in plenty of time to relax. I do hope to go back to the Denver area another time and stay somewhere in the mountains!

This looks like such a fun trip! I wouldn’t think of Denver as a destination for a trip, but I will have to reconsider that.

Sounds like a wonderful Babymoon! One of my BRFs lives in Denver so I know it pretty well by now + I’ve raced there a few times. The Cherry Creek trail is awesome!

A race there would be fun- although hard I’m sure due to the altitude!

Sounds like a wonderful trip! I’ve been wanting to go to Denver for a few years, and we’re stopping in Fort Collins nearby when we drive back to the Midwest. The running trails in Denver sound so nice!

I’ve been to Denver a lot… on the way out to the ski slopes! I think we’ve only toured Denver once, but I really liked the closed off pedestrian area where you could shop and go to restaurants. Looks like you had a fun time!

We heard about that area but didn’t end up going! Actually I think we walked by it, but never really went in the closed off part.

Spent almost every step of this 21 mile run questi Spent almost every step of this 21 mile run questioning my life choices. Like waking up at 3am to run 12 miles on the treadmill and 9 outside. This was a crazy week with a kid that wasn’t sleeping great and fighting a cold and super busy days at work. My legs were just tired the whole time today. It was really hard to run outside after so many treadmill miles and my pace was much slower than inside.

I reminded myself that this is peak week. It’s supposed to feel hard. If it was easy everyone would do it. I ran 53 miles this week and am not injured. The weather is perfect. I’ve gotten in every planned run of this training cycle so far. I get to do this.

And I managed to finish strong with my last 3 miles the fastest of the (outside) run. I owe that to a solid fueling plan and taking all my gels even when I really didn’t want to.

3 weeks to go until race day!

Yesterday’s long run was followed immediately by Yesterday’s long run was followed immediately by back to back kid activities, so there was no time to post about it. (I ate breakfast in the car and lunch at soccer practice- it was that kind of a day.) I was kind of nervous going in to this run, especially now that I’m getting down to last few key long runs. I had 16 miles with 4 x 2 miles on the plan, which sounded manageable but also challenging. The weather was perfect and I hit all my paces. At the end I got a little confused- thinking I was at 15 miles but I was actually at 14 🙃 Got home and realized I chafed really bad. Another long run down, and another week closer to race day.

Do you ever psych yourself out before long runs?
