I hope everyone had a nice, relaxing Christmas (if you celebrate)! Last week felt like it was really three weeks rolled into one, probably because of all the traveling and different things that were going on. I ended up running a little more than I have over the past few weeks. I think I just got back into the groove and the warmer weather motivated me to get outside. Here is how the week looked:
Monday: I had an 11am flight to Detroit, and got in a 4 mile run before heading to the airport. I also did a glute strengthening workout from Jasyoga.
Tuesday: I had access to the hotel gym so took advantage of being able to do a different type of cardio besides running and spent 45 minutes on the elliptical. I followed that up with a strength workout using heavier weights than what I have at home.
Wednesday: 5 treadmill miles and core work before flying back to Baltimore.
Thursday: I was a little sore from Tuesday’s strength training, so I did some yoga in the morning. It was 70 degrees out and I ended up heading outside for a 3 mile run later in the day.
Friday: Rob and I ran just under 5 miles together on Christmas morning.
Saturday: Rest day
Sunday: 8 miles, plus core/strength work- got caught up on a few days of the #RunStrongChallenge!
Other highlights of the week included our annual beer tasting in Michigan. This year we had 9 participants and we tasted 21 beers.
As we tasted each of the beers we gave a rating from 1-10, and kept track so that at the end we could find out which beers had the highest average.
And of course I got to spend a few days with this little munchkin. She is growing up way too fast!
As I said in Thursday’s post, we spent Christmas in Maryland for the first time this year. We had a really relaxing weekend, and I felt like I had a few days to really just do nothing. Now it’s back to work for a few days before it’s time for New Years!
How were your workouts last week?
Are you having unusually warm temps where you live?
Have you been able to find some time to relax lately?

It’s crazy warm for this time of the year! I am not really complaining although I do prefer to run in slightly cooler temperatures. I just don’t want it to snow and ice so I don’t want to make a big deal of the warmer weather lol.
[email protected] says
I would rather run in 60-70 degree weather than deal with snow and ice, thats for sure! But it was kind of humid which made my runs feel a little harder.
Michele @ paleorunningmomma says
Totally agree with Meredith about the weather – it’s odd and not really loving it! You got some great workouts in considering the traveling. I haven’t been on an elliptical in years – maybe next time it’s raining 🙂
[email protected] says
The elliptical wasn’t as bad as I expected- it was kind of nice to change things up a bit!
Laura @ This Runner's Recipes says
Seattle had its normal mild weather, but St. Louis was warm when Ryan and I arrived! Then the warm weather led to flash floods, which is no fun. Great job in getting in your workouts with all that travel!
[email protected] says
We have had so much rain lately! I was thinking of how much snow that would have been if it was colder. Enjoy the rest of your week!!
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
We had unusually warm temps for much of last week, but not humid — definitely changed today when I woked up to 20s and Chester insisted I had to stand outside at 4 am while he did his business.
Not to mention the forecast for tomorrow: snow, changing to wintry mix, changing to rain. Lovely!
[email protected] says
This weather is so crazy! I think we all got a bit spoiled with the warmer temps last week:)
Susie @ SuzLyfe says
The only issue that I have with the warmer temps is that it is raining a bit more, and snow is better for crutching as it comes down, but I’m fine with the fact that there is no snow on the ground!
[email protected] says
I would have thought snow would be really difficult for crutches! I will just vote for no precipitation at all, but I’d like the warmer temps to stick around a bit longer:)
Alyssa @ RenaissanceRunnerGirl says
This is a much needed week of relaxing for me, and running at very easy paces due to my two January halfs coming up just two weeks apart from one another! Looks like the temps are going down this week though 🙂
[email protected] says
I hope you have a great week of relaxing! Its a great time of year for easy runs, I think:)
[email protected] says
These warmer temps have been crazy! I couldn’t believe I was out running in shorts and a tank this month. I was actually able to keep up with my runs last week, but wasn’t able to fit in a longer run since we’ve been running all over Maryland the last few days to see family. I’m looking forward to relaxing this week!
[email protected] says
I really could not believe I was in a tank top and shorts either. Its gonna be so hard to adjust as it gets cold again!
[email protected] says
I also went for a run on Christmas since it was so nice here. Unfortunately it will be cooling down this wk and possible snow showers tonight. For being home this yr, it was still very busy running different places seeing family that were local. You niece is adorable!
[email protected] says
Its getting cold here too this week, and now I feel like I just want it to be spring already! I hope you get to relax a little bit this week!
Karen @ Fit in France says
Hotel gyms can be so much fun, they provide many more options than my basic gym.
[email protected] says
I don’t have a gym membership so I was excited to have access to some of the equipment in the hotel gym! I also loved that it was empty most of the time I was in there:)
Angie @ Pace with Grace says
It looks like you had a great Christmas and I love that you do an annual beer tasting. How fun! I kept up with my runs late week and even got in extra strength training so I was happy about that. We are supposed to get hi with a winter storm today but being that it is December 28 and we only had snow once so far (that melted quickly) I can’t complain!
[email protected] says
I am nervous for what the rest of the winter will bring! I am really hoping that we aren’t getting snow in April:)
Pearl says
You really have a great blog 🙂 You do a great job of fitting working out into your life, wherever you are, which is inspiring.
[email protected] says
Thank you!
Hayley Blake says
Beer tasting sounds so fun! I have never been, though I have wine tasted a million times. I’m actually going today 🙂 my workouts last week were pretty much non-existent as I was soaking up being with family and friends and resting as much as possible!
[email protected] says
Have fun wine tasting! Beer tasting is fun, but much different than wine tasting. Some of the beers I really don’t like, whereas I don’t think I have ever tried a wine that I didnt like:)
Sam @ See Sam Run says
We also had super warm weather last week, but we are going to pay for it now. 8-12 inches of snow and ice are coming tonight/tomorrow. I’m happy I took full advantage of it and got in some outside miles as the sidewalks will be a mess for a few days.
I love your family’s beer tasting tradition. I really want to have an ugly Christmas sweater party when I am in my own place and my friends would love doing something like that! Have a great week off from work!
[email protected] says
I can’t believe you are getting all that snow! I don’t think we have any snow in our forecast, but now Im scared to check…
That ugly sweater party sounds like a great idea!
Megan @ Meg Go Run says
You and Rob look great in your Christmas colors
I thought I would enjoy the warmer running temps but it was too warm for my liking! Christmas Eve my run was horrible. So hot/stuffy outside. Today I am eying the temp and it looks like 40- hopefully I have a good run today because I took off the last two days! My legs have been tired and I just haven’t been motivated to run.
[email protected] says
It was pretty humid and gross. I was glad that I wasn’t doing any kind of workout and could just run whatever pace I wanted!
Suzy says
I love that you guys were able to run together on Christmas morning! So great. I didn’t do my usual Christmas Day long run this year, but I was able to run yesterday and I’m so happy I could! I can’t bend over, but I can run. LOL!
[email protected] says
I am so happy you were able to run yesterday!!
Jennifer @ Running on Lentils says
Sounds like an awesome week between getting good workouts in and spending time with family and friends! Cool that your beer tasting event is an annual tradition for you! This year we went to a party where the hosts had a beer exchange. Everyone brought a 6-pack, and there were three rounds where each person got to pick 2 beers. It seemed like a fun way for people to try different beers. Have a great week!
[email protected] says
That beer tradition sounds really great! I really enjoy trying new beers but I am always too nervous to try them when I am out because I don’t want to pay for a full beer if I don’t like it.
Tara @ Running 'N' Reading says
YAY! I’m so glad you had a great Christmas holiday, Lisa, and way to go with your workouts – woo hoo! Um, yes, the weather is absolutely crazy; it’s been raining non stop, warm and now I think the rain is going to clear out and it’s going to cool off again – whew! Hope you enjoy your short week!
[email protected] says
I hope you had a great Christmas too! Im not sure what to think of this weather- Im over the rain though and I don’t think I would mind cooler temps again if its not raining!
Rachael @ Catch Me if You Can says
wow get those workouts in girl!!! christmas beer tasting tradition that is just too cute my husband would love that! I didnt run on christmas morning which was nice because i was so tired but i did run christmas eve getting ready for christmas day. still need to run like 100 miles to work off everything i ate lol
[email protected] says
Haha I feel the same way! Glad you were able to get in a Christmas eve run. Sometimes its nice to just relax on Christmas morning!
Tricia@MissSippipiddlin says
Relax??? What exactly does that mean, lol. Yes I guess I did do more relaxing than I had wanted to do because of the rain. The beer tasting sounds like so much fun, I’m not a beer drinker but it’s only because I haven’t found the one I like, I’m still on a mission though!
I didn’t get in a Christmas run but a hike up Stone Mountain, it does count right? If it doesn’t surely the 12 very hilly training miles for a very flat marathon did the trick! Thanks for link up with us Lisa, enjoy your week! 🙂
[email protected] says
You had such an adventurous week! If you are ever in the Ohio area around the holidays you should try Great Lake Christmas Ale- it was the winner of our beer tasting:)
HoHo Runs says
I’m still waiting on that relaxing part… I want you to know I actually did a yoga routine last night (after I had already posted my weekly wrap). It definitely helped. I may try it again tonight. Gosh — who am I? LOL. The beer tasting sounds like fun. I love that you kept score and actually picked a real winner. My hubs loves all types of beer. It sounds like you got your workouts done in what I know must have been a busy week. Kudos. The weather here has just been “wrong”. I can’t wait for a cool down. Thanks for linking, Lisa. Happy New Year!
[email protected] says
Nice job with the yoga! I hope you enjoy it enough to start doing it regularly:)
Marcia says
Way to keep the workouts going during a very busy week! It was mild here over Christmas but all that came to a grinding halt here yesterday when we got a 12 hour ice storm topped with 2hrs of heavy snow. Welcome to reality!
[email protected] says
Yikes!! I hope the weather has settled down for you a bit. We have had alot of rain here but I am very grateful that its not snow/ice.
Lisa @ Lisa the Vegetarian says
We were having unusually warm temps here (nearly 70 on Christmas!)… until today. Now the streets are covered in snow and ice and it’s freezing. Crazy!
[email protected] says
So crazy! I keep getting confused as to what month it is!
Wendy@Taking the Long Way Home says
I love that beer tasting party! That looks fun!
Our weather has been crazy too. Yesterday was an ice storm, then it’s supposed to get cold. Next week back in the 40s!
[email protected] says
I really can’t keep up with this weather! I hope you get another break from the snow and ice though!
Deborah @ Confessions of a Mother Runner says
We are traveling with the whole family this week and trying desperately to keep up my activity and manage all the eating out!
[email protected] says
That’s so tough! The eating out part is what really gets me. I feel like I have so much more control over my food when I am cooking most of my meals and eating at home. Hope you’re enjoying your trip!
Debra @ Happy Running Sole says
Glad you had a good Christmas! You did so well getting your runs done while traveling. We had storms all last week. I ran when there was a break in the storms, but it was so humid and muggy. We’re expecting more rain tomorrow then it’s supposed to cool down some. Have a Happy New Year!
[email protected] says
I hope you have a happy new year too!
Sue @ This Mama Runs for Cupcakes says
There have been no real workouts for me, although I did run a total of 20 miles to catch up to my 1000 mile goal which I finally hit. This bronchitis is doing me in though. I’m hoping for a few more days of rest and then time to kick it back into high gear! That beer tasting event looks like a lot of fun!
[email protected] says
I hope you are feeling better!
megabrooke says
Glad you had a nice holiday! I’m jealous of your running- I miss it a bit! We’ve had some of those crazy warm temps too! Until yesterday when we finally got some SNOW!
My workouts have been just okay- with traveling for the holidays it was a little tough. I’ve gotten back to it now that we’re home though which is good!
[email protected] says
It can be really tough to keep up with working out while traveling! I can’t believe how this weather has gone from warm to cold/snow so quickly!
Lucky13 says
Nice job, i love running for how portable it is. Among other reasons why I love it. But i also believe in x-training. Thanks for the inspiration!
[email protected] says
I definitely enjoy both as well!
