Holiday Gift Guide For Runners 2014

I’ve been loving seeing some of the “Holiday Gift Guide” posts lately, especially the ones geared towards runners! I thought I would share some things that have caught my eye lately that may make a good holiday gift for a runner in your life!

Check out this runner's gift guide to find the perfect gift for the runners in your life #running #holidays #gift
 1. Pro-compression socks These are my favorite compression socks. They are comfortable and perfect for during or after runs.

2. Winter Running Gloves  With the colder temps here already, runners who brave the cold can always use a good pair of running gloves!

3. Garmin Running Watch There is definitely a range of watches to choose from. I have the Garmin Forerunner 620. You can read my review here.

4. R8 Roller I’ve been dying to try one of these! I think it looks so much easier than foam rolling. My only hesitation is that I don’t think you can really use it on the hip area.

5. Gift card to Runner Warehouse They offer free 2 day shipping to anywhere in the US on all orders! You can also return any new or used items within 90 days of purchase, for a refund on new items or a store credit/exchange on used items, for free return shipping. I buy almost off of my running stuff from this website!

6. “Run” Necklace  I’ve been loving these simple but cute necklaces. I don’t usually wear a necklace but I could see myself wearing something like this!

7. Nuun Electrolyte Enhanced Drink Tabs  I go through this stuff really quickly, especially when I am training in the summer! I find that it helps me to stay hydrated better than water alone, plus it tastes good so I’m more likely to drink it!

8. Gift certificate for a massage I’m sure any runner would appreciate an hour of relaxation!

9. Road ID  Everyone should have a road ID! If you’re not sure what should go on the ID,  you could always give a gift card and let the person you are giving it to choose their own.

What’s on your holiday wish list?

Do you already have any of these products?

Another great list – everybody has a few different things, which is cool. I think the things I am really considering are new mittens / gloves (better sub-zero comfort) and more lights (knuckle, headlamp, etc). And of course more variety in clothes (since all of my top-layers for winter are yellow and my best cold hat is blue … boring pics!).

The gloves you link to are interesting – they are the cold-gear infrared, which are not so much a ‘keep you warm’ as a ‘not get cold’ glove … they keep heat from escaping and reflect it back. I have the ‘extreme coldgear’ and they are definitely NOT for ‘extreme’ cold 🙂 Just something to keep in mind if you are a crazy winter outdoor runner whose hands get cold quickly (like me!).

      December 6, 2014 at 3:46 pm

Hm thats interesting about the gloves and I’ll need to decide if I should look into something warmer instead. I don’t necessarily think my hands get cold quickly but if we have another winter like last then I will need really warm gloves!

There is something to that compression sock addiction! It’s like getting a pair or two makes you realize you actually need to be wearing them every day and need 5 more! Actually I kind of feel that way when I get any new run gear, and it’s a bad thing. I’ve been curious about those new compression tights too.

    • [email protected] says

      December 6, 2014 at 3:47 pm

I know, running gear is such an addiction! I really think the socks help and I try to wear them for a little while almost every day, especially when Im training hard. I also think compression tights help a lot but they are a little more work to put on every day!

I do have a Garmin but need to share the rest of the list with my husband! Thanks for sharing.

I have sent my husband and family so many running items that Im asking for this year!:)

I like the idea of the Runner Warehouse gift card. The R8 roller looks pretty cool too. I’ve never seen one of those before!

    • [email protected] says

      December 6, 2014 at 3:48 pm

Im really intrigued by the roller, and Ive heard its much less work than foam rolling!

Great idea – I like the gloves that you have listed. I love the Erica Sara necklaces – I got charms to commemorate MCM and NYC .

    • [email protected] says

      December 6, 2014 at 3:48 pm

Charms are a really cute idea! I think its nice to have something to wear to recognize accomplishments that you can wear when you’re not running.

What would we do without Runners Warehouse?! Although I have noticed they sold out of the Brooks Adrenaline 14s in my size super fast once they went on clearance. Usually I can count on them to have my shoes for about 6 months after the new ones go on sale! But I’ve bought so many other things through RW other than shoes, the fast shipping and great prices are key! I didn’t even realize you could get a gift card there. I will have to drop that tidbit into conversation with Adam 😉

      December 6, 2014 at 3:50 pm

I get just about all my stuff at Runners Warehouse or amazon now. I pretty much refuse to pay shipping on anything! Its annoying when they run out of shoes once they go on clearance. I have had the same issue with pure flows.

Great list! My husband and family has been asking me what I want for Christmas and there are definitely a few things on here that I could use!

      December 6, 2014 at 3:51 pm

Seeing other peoples’ lists has given me ideas too! Now my wish list is really long:) But Ill be happy if I get a few of these things, and hopefully some gift cards to use a little later in the year!

I’m getting new running mitts for xmas and I am SO FREAKING EXCITED. Here, normal mitts just don’t cut it! I’m also getting the snowflake PC socks. I’ll be getting another pair of Newtons too. Hey, if you can get someone to pay for it! Another great give is the runners world or competitor cook books!

    • [email protected] says

      December 6, 2014 at 3:52 pm

I really want some wintery PC socks I think! The cook books are great ideas too. I bought the runners world one on my kindle a few months ago but I feel like its not the same as having an actual book to look through.

Running gloves are so crucial and I need a Garmin in my life! Enjoy your weekend.

    • [email protected] says

      December 6, 2014 at 3:53 pm

I don’t know what I would do without my Garmin! And I am still on a mission to find the perfect pair of running gloves. Hoping that if I get these they work out ok!

  10. Meranda@Fairytalesandfitness says

    December 5, 2014 at 2:10 pm

So many great ideas! A massage certificate is going on my list for sure!

    • [email protected] says

      December 6, 2014 at 3:54 pm

I love a good massage- and I always feel bad paying for it myself, so a gift card is the way to go!

    December 5, 2014 at 2:14 pm

All great ideas. I love my Roll Recovery! It is hard to get to the outside of the hip and takes some manuvering but you can get to it with practice 🙂

    • [email protected] says

      December 6, 2014 at 3:55 pm

I think over the past few months you have convinced me that I need one of those rollers in my life!:) I have realized that with my foam roller I really can’t get a good angle on my hamstrings- hoping this will help me get in there a little better!

  12. misszippy says

    December 5, 2014 at 2:27 pm

Great list (and thanks for sharing mine!). A massage gift card sounds just about perfect right now! Love that idea. And the jewelry.

    Have a great weekend!

    • [email protected] says

      December 6, 2014 at 3:56 pm

I think sometimes its nice to get running-related gifts that are not necessarily running clothes. I end up buying them for myself when I need them (or when they’re on sale!) I tried to include things I wouldn’t really buy for myself!

  13. Kirtley @ The Gist of Fit says

Great list!!! Compression socks changed my life!!! Have a fun weekend!!

    • [email protected] says

      December 6, 2014 at 3:57 pm

Aren’t they just the best? I know people who don’t run think its so weird that I wear compression socks all the time- but I bet if they tried them on they would understand!

I have a Running Skirt on my Christmas list, and I’m looking at a Garmin for my birthday.

    • [email protected] says

      December 6, 2014 at 3:58 pm

I’ve never tried a running skirt! I always think they look so cute on others but I need to make sure it would work for me before I bought one i think.

I’d love a pair of compression tights! I love seeing what everyone’s favorites are 🙂 I always tell my mom fuel and gloves/ear warmers are great stocking stuffers. This year I need a new pair of fleece lined tights – they’re so cozy.

    • [email protected] says

      December 6, 2014 at 3:58 pm

Ooh fleece lined pants sound amazing! I need to look into those!

    December 5, 2014 at 3:26 pm

I love Pro Compression socks. They are a must have. I don’t really have anything on my list in terms of fitness stuff because it’s not the kind of stuff I can wait on – if I need it, I need it and must get it myself! lol

    • [email protected] says

      December 6, 2014 at 4:00 pm

Haha sometimes I feel that way too. Ive tried to be patient recently and save stuff that I want and hope I get it for the holidays. The standard running clothes I usually buy myself when they go on sale. I tried to look for stuff that is more of a “treat” that I wouldn’t necessarily buy for myself but will be real excited to have!

  17. Amber says

    December 5, 2014 at 3:36 pm

I love Running Warehouse & PC socks 🙂 I’m waiting to hear some more about the PC tights before I consider buy them or asking for them as a gift.
I have an Erica Sara Designs run necklace that I love, it’s so small & elegant looking.
I have a lot of winter running gear on my wishlist- gloves, jackets, base layers, ear warmers, etc. Should make for a Merry (& toasty!) Christmas 🙂

    • [email protected] says

      December 6, 2014 at 4:01 pm

Your wish list sounds perfect for the cold Maryland winter! I am also asking for some warmer things and if I don’t get them Ill have to just search for some things on sale because I really can’t make it through another winter without some warmer running clothes!

  18. Sara says

    December 5, 2014 at 3:58 pm

I was actually eyeing up those gloves today! I’ve already got my running gifts for the year, but I like to keep these lists handy for when I go shopping for myself.

      December 6, 2014 at 4:01 pm

Yes- anything I don’t get I will be keeping an eye on, hoping them maybe go on sale at some point!

A new foam roller is on my list for sure! And I agree about a GPS watch – they can get pricey, but anyone getting into running seriously would LOVE one. Even if they don’t realize it yet!

    • [email protected] says

      December 6, 2014 at 4:03 pm

Foam rollers are so crucial to runners! And i think Garmins are as well- although maybe we would all be better off without them:) They can be pretty addicting!

  21. Molly @alsoranagain.com says

    December 5, 2014 at 6:38 pm

Those are all fantastic gift ideas! I have the Garmin 220 and I love it. It’s so much more reliable than my old Garmin, and it finds satellites really quickly.

At the top of my list for gifts to give to runners is Lauren Fleshman’s Believe Training Journal. It has a really useful training log and a lot of good, soulful advice. I love my own copy and bought one for my BRF.

On my Christmas running list? I would love to receive Oiselle’s Wazzie Wool Baselayer. It looks cute enough to wear outside of running, too.

    • [email protected] says

      December 6, 2014 at 4:04 pm

I also asked for the Believe journal! Looks like such a great way to track training and stay inspired!
I love everything by Oiselle- I’ll need to look into that base layer!

  22. Sherry says

    December 5, 2014 at 10:25 pm

Great list of running items! I have a garmin 220 and love it as well as Pro compression socks. Those tights would be nice!

    • [email protected] says

      December 6, 2014 at 4:05 pm

Im thinking if the tights are anything like the socks than they will be great! Im hoping they live up to the pro-compression standards:)

  23. Nicole@Thegirlwhoraneverywhere says

    December 5, 2014 at 10:32 pm

I want all of these things! I asked for more compression socks…I need to have at least one pair for every day of the week! My husband does not really love that idea though!!

My Christmas list is always full of sooo much running stuff, I can’t get enough!!!:)

    • [email protected] says

      December 6, 2014 at 4:06 pm

I think that one pair of socks per day of the week is fair! I wear mine every day but if Im not running in them then I don’t wash them every day.
Christmas is a great time to stock up on all the running stuff that we dream about all year long!!

  24. Marcia says

Great picks! I didn’t know PRO made tights. I have some Zensah tights that are pure awesome. Like getting a full lower body massage. Haha!

    • [email protected] says

      December 6, 2014 at 4:07 pm

I’ll need to look into Zensah! I have had no luck with finding compression tights that I love. I have a pair by mcdavid (I think its called) and they are great for recovery but I don’t like to run in them. Im hoping that I like the pro-compression ones!

  25. Sara @ Lake Shore Runner says

    December 6, 2014 at 5:03 am

I am asking for running mittens!! I hear they keep your hands warmer than gloves do.

Also, sorry I just bombarded you with comments. You can tell I am having a rip roaring Friday night 🙂

    • [email protected] says

      December 6, 2014 at 4:11 pm

I’ve been hearing that mittens are really good for running! Im hoping to find gloves that I can use with my phone. But really, the most important part is making sure my hands are warm!
Haha well my Friday night was just as crazy as I was in bed by 9pm!:)

I got a deal on those compression tights for 50 percent off and I really like them! I was using them on some of my long runs. I love my road ID. I am excited to try their new app. I start back up to running and am going to try it on my phone this week!

I feel like I also want winter running gear because a lot of it is so cute, but I have no reason to wear it where I live! Sometimes I wish it was just a liiiitle bit colder here during winter…

Yesterday’s’ long run was 16 miles with 6 x 1 Yesterday’s’ long run was 16 miles with 6 x 1 mile MP/1 mile easy. I took a few hours of PTO in the morning to do this on the trail because I knew wouldn’t be able to do it this weekend. This was my first time on the trail since my marathon last November. It was nice to be back there and the perfect place to do this kind of long run. It was the kind of run where you start thinking “ok cool I just did a tough MP workout” but then you remember you actually need to run 26 miles in a row at that pace. Luckily there’s still 9 more weeks of training…although that doesn’t really sound like that much!
41 miles for the week and got in 2 strength sessions. Taking it easy this weekend other than chasing the kids around for all their activities! #run #marathontraining #longrun
It’s kind of freeing to not care about pace. It It’s kind of freeing to not care about pace. It is a little frustrating to have to plan more time for an easy run. But it’s definitely worth it to recover quicker and feel better on workout days! #run #marathongtraining #easyrun
You know marathon training is starting to get real You know marathon training is starting to get real when you start losing track of what training week it is. I had to check my calendar but this was week 6, so 10 weeks to go!

I ran the Charles Street 12 last weekend so this week was all about easy miles and recovering from the race. That went well until I went and ran all the hills yesterday followed by walking around a maze and fun park for 5 hours. I got in some strength and mobility this morning and now I’m back to focusing on recovery!

If you’re training for a race how many weeks do you have left?

#run #runner #marathontraining #richmondmarathon
15 miles, over 1,100 feet of elevation gain, and 9 15 miles, over 1,100 feet of elevation gain, and 91% humidity 🫠 Pretty sure that was harder than my race last weekend, but got it done. Now off to my second workout of the day- taking the kids to an outdoor fun park. RIP to my legs.
What are you up to this weekend?
