Here we are again already, enjoying our fall coffee in October. Time continues to move on as the world just gets stranger and weirder. My mom got me these socks a few weeks ago. Unfortunately I’m either alone or with a toddler most of the time, so no one has actually brought me coffee when I really needed it.
October Ultimate Coffee Date: If you can read this bring me a cup of coffee
If we were having coffee, I would tell you about my dentist appointment last week.
This was my first time going out alone since March 10th. It was also my first time being away from Grayson other than when I go running. I was supposed to go to the dentist at the end of March but my appointment was cancelled. This was the first time I was able to get in. I’ve had a toothache that comes and goes and I really wanted to get it looked at.
First of all, it was so weird seeing so many people just wondering around the streets in masks. As I was parking my car I saw someone in the office cleaning the doorknobs. When I went through the first door to the office there was a sign saying to stop and knock rather than going through the second set of doors. Someone came out to take my temperature and screen for symptoms. I had to sign a form and after I used their pen they took it away to clean it. I was the only one in the waiting room, and I think there was only one other patient in the office the whole time I was there.
My dentist wore PPE and did the full exam and the cleaning (rather than a hygienist). He didn’t see anything wrong with my tooth other than a deep filling I had done about 12 years ago that was close to the nerve. He referred me to a specialist to get it looked at. I went this week and found out I need a root canal. Ugh.
If we were having coffee, I would tell you about these leggings I found on Amazon.
I runfess that I wear leggings almost every day. I will wear a nice shirt when I have virtual meetings for work, but honestly my clothes get destroyed when I am home with a toddler all day. My only complaint about the leggings I already have is that they don’t have pockets. I decided to get a new pair especially since I wear them so much.
I found these on Amazon (affiliate link). They were only $20, super comfortable, and have nice big pockets that fit my phone! They are maybe juuuust a tad too big and slide down more than I would like, but I’m thinking if I put them in the dryer they might shrink a little.
If we were having coffee, I would tell you that we got a stroller cover for winter runs.
After complaining about what to do with Grayson in the stroller as it gets colder out (he won’t wear gloves and throws the blanket out of the stroller) we decided to get a warm cover. It looks like a sleeping bag and is called a “Footmuff“. I really hope he likes it! Last year I got a rain/wind cover and he completely freaks out when I try to put it on. We have never even been able to try running with it because he gets so upset.
If we were having coffee, I would tell you about my first big work from home technical glitch
On Wednesday I had to do a 1 hour live presentation with about 10 guests who agreed to participate in activity at the end of the session. We were recording it to be uploaded for a national conference. During the first half my co-presenter had a ton of technical issues (her mouse stopped working, when she moved to the next slide it wasn’t showing for other people. videos weren’t playing…) and then all of a sudden my power went out! This includes my internet connection so I got kicked out of the meeting we were presenting in.
I got back in before the meeting ended and the meeting had continue to record even though I had left (I wasn’t sure what would happen with that since I was the one recording). However, after it was over we couldn’t find the recording. Usually it gets E-mailed out after about 10 minutes. We were convinced that because I had left the meeting that it messed up the recording. After spending a good 3-4 hours trying to find it, worrying that it was lost forever, and trying to figure out how to re-do the whole thing before the end of the week, by some miracle it eventually showed up in the files from the meeting. Technology was not on our side that day!
If we were having coffee, I would ask you what you’re doing for the holidays.
As the holidays are approaching I think everyone is starting to consider what is safe and what they are comfortable with. Did you hear that the CDC came out with a statement that trick-or-treating is not safe? I mean I think we all sort of knew that already. I hope that families with young kids can come up with safe ways to celebrate. We will dress up Grayson and maybe walk around or something but there’s no need to trick-or-treat when he doesn’t even know what he’s missing and can’t eat candy yet.
As for Thanksgiving and Christmas, that’s still a big question mark. Most of our family lives out of state and I know we won’t want to fly anywhere. We also have Grayson’s 2nd birthday coming up in December. I guess that will be low-key too!

I wonder if those are the leggings I got last year? I found an inexpensive pair on Amazon that I love! Altho I did recommend sizing down, since they were a little loose in my normal size.
No plans yet for the holidays as we have to see how things go for my sister. What a year….
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
It seems like Amazon has a ton of leggings now, so I just went based off reviews and seemed to get lucky. Should have tried a size down though, oh well! I hope you can figure out some plans for the holidays. It’s more important than ever to be able to spend time together if you can do so safely!
Beckett @ Birchwood Pie says
Knock wood we’ve had very few technical issues during the whole WFH adventure. Though I always get a little paranoid that it’s going to go down someday when I’m running payroll. My standard WFH wardrobe is: start the day in my PJs, get dressed at noon to walk the dog, and stay dressed until the dog’s 2nd walk after dinner. So the dog is my #1 motivation for getting dressed these days;-)
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
That sounds like a good wardrobe! I love that your dog is your motivation to get dressed, lol.

So sorry about the root canal! Sounds like you were very safe at the dentist. Mine aren’t bothering me, but I am overdue. Like a lot of other things!
Good luck with the winter sleeping bag (that’s what it looks like to me).
I pretty much live in skirts (summer) & capris/leggings — but that luckily goes with being a Yoga teacher. Of course I dressed that way before I was a Yoga teacher. 🙂
I don’t know what my sister is thinking, but I’ve already told my mom we can’t host Thanksgiving, which normally we would’ve done, and she completely understands. I can’t imagine her community would allow us to come there, which is what we did last year. One of the couples she eats with regularly celebrated Thanksgiving with us last year, so hopefully they’ll all be together.
Really sucks for my mom, though. 🙁
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
That’s so tough that you probably can’t see your mom. Hopefully she can spend the day with her friends and maybe you can visit right before or after the actual day.
Deborah Brooks says
I am very over due for the dentist as well and I guess I should just go. Funny how getting my hair done seemed more of a necessity lol. We are trying to figure out how to do Thanksgiving safely w my parents and kids etc. Stay tuned for that. Glad you got that work thing back up and running those things always happen at the most inopportune time. Thanks for stopping in for coffee
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
I’ll be interested to see how your Thanksgiving plans turn out! It would make things alot easier if it was usually warm here in November, but we can’t count on that.
Laurie says
Now that the weather has turned cooler, I am wearing tights almost every day too. Those tights look pretty and a cell phone pocket is a nice feature. I saw some advertised that are fleece lined on the inside. They were appealing too.
I don’t know what our holiday plans are yet. Whatever we do, it will be small. Nothing like other years.
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
The fleece lined tights sound so cozy!

I can count on maybe two fingers the times someone has brought me coffee and it was SO divine and much appreciated! Love the socks! Chicago just had a huge press conference yesterday about how Halloween is NOT cancelled. Apparently we’re supposed to put out candy on a table, all spaced out so kids can take it. I don’t see that going well. Since we barely get any trick or treaters here at all anymore, I’m thinking I’m going to skip, which makes me sad, as I love Halloween, but what do you do? I think dressing up will be fun for Grayson but you’re right, he doesn’t need the trick or treat aspect.
My daughter had a Zoom flute recital that was a total dumpster fire. Her teacher’s computer crashed a million times. I felt so bad for her.
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
My neighborhood started having some conversations on facebook about how to celebrate safely. We’ll see how it goes.
That’s so tough about the recital on Zoom! Why do things always go wrong at the worst possible times?
Farrah says
Sorry to hear about the root canal! 🙁
I’ve been living in workout clothes and scrubs and I’m honestly not sure if I’m ever gonna go back to dressing up for work, haha. We don’t really have any plans for the holidays this year–probably dinner at home just to be safe.
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
I am going to really struggle with wearing real clothes again whenever I go back to work!
Kim G says
Oh no – I’m sorry to hear that you need a root canal 🙁 The only good thing is that you should get relief from the toothache after it’s done.
I just purchased some yoga pants from Old Navy last week. Figured it was time to add to my WFH attire, lol. For the holidays, we’re not doing anything different. I live with my parents and sister, and it’s always just the 4 of us for the holidays so we’re going to continue with that this year. The only thing I’ll miss is handing out candy to the trick or treaters on Halloween.
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
That’s what I’m hoping about the root canal! Its hurt for so long that I’m excited to not be in pain anymore. That’s nice that you will still be able to be with your family for the holidays!
Coco says
Those socks are so fun! One reason I kept shopping the Skirt Sports clearance is because of all the pockets! I have some Athleta leggings with pockets too. Ugh on technology. It didn’t happen during a big presentation, but our wi-fi did go out just as I was about to present for a meeting. Luckily my three virtual conference presentations went well — although Scooby did bark at the mailman during one of them!
That stroller blanket looks cozy! It’s a bummer about trick-or-treating, but it is not worth the risk!
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
Pockets are the best! I’ve heard lots of dogs barking when I’ve been in meetings. It’s the new normal now I guess!
Kimberly Hatting says
I have a dental appointment at the end of the month, but have been to the ortho once since all the COVID protocol became a reality. I was the only patient in the entire office (there’s usually 3-4 others in the nearby dental chairs), and all of us were masked up/PPE-bedecked. It was freaky!
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
So strange!
Denise @ runheartfit says
My husband brings me coffee in bed on my days off. I love it, except it does delay me getting up and out the door. Lol.
Hopefully Grayson will be more cooperative with his Footmuf (?) since he’s a little older now. Good luck!
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
I hope so, but now he is much more opinionated!
Michelle D. says
So sorry about the root canal! I’ve been dragging my feet about making my next dentist appointment but I guess I should get on that.
The holidays are a big question mark for us too. It’s all so stressful trying to figure out what is the safe thing to do. I’ve been wondering if people will still let their kids trick or treat.
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
It’s all so hard! I just hope everyone can be safe and that we dont see a huge spike this winter.
fairytales and fitness says
I hope Grayson likes his cover for the stroller!
When I was working from home, I actually ordered more comfy pants ( not quite leggings but more like joggers) and some sweatshirts that were a bit more dressier ( if that’s even possible…lol).
Have a good weekend Lisa!
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
I have some “dressier” sweatshirts too! They’re from Amazon an I wear them on days that I don’t have video conferences. But if I ended up having to hop on a call at the last minute, they would look ok.
San says
I am sorry about the root canal – ugh. But I hope it’ll take care of your toothache once and for all.
And thank you for the recommendation for leggings. I could use some new ones 🙂
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
Thanks! The root canal wasn’t all that bad and now I am hopeful that my tooth pain will be gone.
