It Doesn’t Feel Like May: Recent Random Thoughts

Lately I keep having to remind myself that it’s really the middle of May. I guess the cooler weather we had earlier this month made me feel like it was still March. The year is just flying by so maybe I’m in denial that we are almost halfway through 2017!

Tomorrow we head to Cleveland for Rob’s marathon. I figured today was a good day to just ramble about what’s been going on lately. It’s been awhile since I’ve done that!

Spring Pedicures

It’s sandal season so time to clean up my feet. You probably know that I’ve been getting lots of dry needling done lately. After the needling I have also been getting stim and ultrasound. This means that lots of people are getting very close to my feet several times a week. I’ve felt like I have actually had to keep my feet looking decent whereas I usually don’t care all that much. It helps that I’m not marathon training, which totally destroys my feet.

Shoe update

I found another pair of sandals that seem to make my feet happy. (But who really knows- they are so temperamental!) I got these at DSW and they have decent support and the thick straps hold my feet in place better than flip flops. Here is the Amazon (affiliate) link: Merrell Around Town Slide Sandal (I’m not really into shoes/fashion at all, I just like to share my shoe finds with you because I know others have feet that are difficult to make happy!)

Sirius Radio

I got a new car in March and we have a 3 month trial of sires radio. It’s pretty addicting. Very smart to give a free trial for new car purchases because now I can’t imagine not having it. I used to just listen to one radio station and deal with bad songs and commercials. Now, I constantly need to have a good song on otherwise I am scrolling through to find something I like.

Run and 10 DVD

I’ve mentioned that the guy on the Run and 10 DVD is…interesting. One of my favorite quotes is from a core work section of the DVD when we do dead bugs. It goes something like this: “Ok now you’re gonna get on your back and do some deadbugs. See all those dead bugs on the floor eating cookie crumbs? You shouldn’t be eating cookies! That’s why we are doing core work!” You have to hear it to really understand these random things he says.

Technology Frustrations

Both at work and at home technology is driving me crazy. At work we need to now make any documents we post online “accessible” meaning they can be read for anyone with a disability or by a screen reader. I went into this having no idea what I was doing. I’ve learned a lot, but it’s still a really frustrating and time-consuming process. Hopefully as I get used to it will just because second nature. After a long day of dealing with this last Friday I got home and wanted to set up my Tailwind account to schedule pins for the week. I like to schedule pins from group boards to spread them out, but the Tailwind icon wasn’t showing up. I contacted Tailwind and apparently there is a “bug” in the system.

Weather

I can’t get through a thinking out loud post without mentioning the weather, right? How did it just jump like 50 degrees? I kind of hope the warm weather is here to stay now. And a break from weeks of rain would be nice too! Oh, but wait, Rob is running a marathon on Sunday so if Cleveland weather would cooperate that would be great. Also, I’d really like it to not be pouring rain when I’m standing outside cheering for 4 hours.

I love the satellite radio – I even put the app on my phone to use it while running sometimes! 80’s on 8 is always my favorite. and I’m really good about pedicures year round. I get them less in the winter (like once a month?) but usually end up with every other week in the warmer months since my feet get alittle more beat up wearing sandals. It keeps me from having runners feet, I am convinced lol. Good luck to Rob tomorrow!

I didnt realize it could be used as a phone app! I will have to look into that! I usually get pedicures every 4-6 weeks in the summer. But you know that they are ridiculously expensive here!

SQUEEE Go Rob Go! So exciting!
I have no clue what month it is, or how I m supposed to feel about it. I’m not sure if I care, honestly! Right now, I’m just trying to do a day at a time.
I have gotten one pedicure in the past like 3 years. And my toes always look terrible, lol

I also decided it doesn’t really matter what month it is. Its not like the weather follows suit anyway!

Have a great weekend in Cleveland and I hope that Rob has a great race! I’m planning on running the Cleveland Half Marathon next year.

That’s so funny about the Run and 10 DVD. You are right – he does say some crazy things during the workouts, and the dead bug quote is one of my favorites LMAO

I agree that it doesn’t feel like May. The weather in CT has been nuts – in the 40-50’s last Saturday and then its going to be 87 degrees today.

Yep we have had almost the same weather! And Im so glad you also have the DVD so you know how strange it is!

Good luck Rob! We had snow in the mountains so I have no idea what month it actually is. At least we don’t have heat!

      May 18, 2017 at 7:03 pm

Hearing about snow in other parts of the country in May is so confusing!

Wacky weather. What would we talk about if we didn’t have the weather?

Well, you gotta give the instructor props for keeping things interesting. Although I’m guessing that eventually that’ll get really old. I don’t really seem to mind that stuff, though.

If Cleveland’s weather is anything like ours, it’s supposed to cool down this weekend. Which is a good thing. Because I just got back from walking the dogs at 8 am & I’m already covered in sweat! It’s a treadmill day for me.

    • Lisa @ Mile By Mile says

      May 18, 2017 at 7:03 pm

That would be great if it cooled down! Im seeing rain in the forecast and hoping that changes!

Your feet (and your nails) look FABULOUS! I love those sandals and the sandals you’re wearing in your photo. I’m all about comfy shoes. That guy on the Run and 10 DVD sounds so annoying. I’m not sure I could take random dorky comments like that especially because I deal with them all day (kids say lame stuff all the time and as parents we have to feign interest).

    • Lisa @ Mile By Mile says

      May 18, 2017 at 7:05 pm

Haha I would think you would be used to it then! But yea, it gets annoying, especially after hearing it a few times.

I really like the sandals in your foot photo (are they Birks?). I’e had to be super careful about my feet as well ever since I tore the tendon in my foot, so I’ve been checking out Birkenstock options. Sad that my Rainbows days are mostly over 🙁

    • Lisa @ Mile By Mile says

      May 18, 2017 at 7:06 pm

I love my Rainbows but I try not to wear flip flops (which is very sad). Yes, the sandals in the first pic are birks! I like them alot, but they are not quite nice enough for work. So Ive been on the hunt for other options.

I love your pink nail polish, very pretty!

I don’t have Sirius radio but I have a paid plan with Google Play Music and listen to that at home, in my car, at work, etc. Listening to the regular radio with commercials and bad songs is so 1999! 😀

      May 20, 2017 at 6:05 am

Haha yes its so old school! I cant believe i was still listening to the radio in 2017!

I love pedicures so it’s no problem keeping up with my feet care. We’ve been having an unusually cool May, though triple digits are on the horizon by the weekend. Ah, well, it is the desert and it was nice while it lasted. Good luck to your husband this weekend. I hope he has good weather for his race!

Thanks! I love pedicures too, I just wish they weren’t so expensive! Hope you can stay cool this weekend!

I do keep my toe nails nice–for months I was getting all the laser, dry needing and ultra sound and now I have been doing my regeneration protocol so someone is always right up in my foot! I am going to check out those sandals. I will wear slides but not regular flip flops and those look nice. I have a pair of Merrell hike shoes and they are so comfortable! Thanks! P.S. Good luck on the race, Rob.

      May 20, 2017 at 6:08 am

Im glad I found Merrell because they seem like a good brand! Its never fun to have someone so close to your feet all the time. My chiro joked last week “you missed a spot shaving”! I told him how much pressure it is to have someone so close to your feet and legs all the time!

Goooo Rob! I’m so excited to hear how his race goes. Our 95 degree weather blew out of here and it’s 40, windy and raining as I type. It’s just ridiculous already. I have sirius and I runfess I rarely use it.

    • Lisa @ Mile By Mile says

      May 20, 2017 at 6:09 am

I cant imagine having sirius and not using it! The weather just can’t make up its mind I guess.

I have a vacation coming up soon and I will get my first pedicure of the season. I purchased a new car last summer and had the free trial of Sirius radio and I never kept it. It was way too much and I do not drive far for work. Good luck to Rob this weekend! Have a great trip!

The sirius can be alot if you don’t drive much. We really appreciated it during our 6 hour drive yesterday!

19 miles! 7 on the treadmill, 12 outside, 1,272 to 19 miles! 7 on the treadmill, 12 outside, 1,272 total feet of elevation gain. Amazing weather. Listened to Life of a Showgirl on the treadmill and had some podcasts saved for my outside run but couldn’t get my headphones to connect. This was challenging by the end and I kept thinking how hard it would be if I needed to run another 7 miles today (and all miles at a faster pace) but this is why we train. Feeling like I’m in a good place with 6 weeks to go! How was your run today? #run #marathontraining #longrun
