This weekend was the Cleveland Marathon. For the first time I got a view from the sideline, rather than participating in the race. It wasn’t so bad (kind of fun actually) and I got to see Rob at 6 places during the race and also got to cheer on Rachel! Oh, and Rob hit his goal time and PR’d by 11 minutes! I’ll share more about the race later this week. I just wanted to pop in with my weekly wrap before we head back to Baltimore.
Monday: 30 minutes core-focused strength training
I did a lot of work with these bands, which challenge my core and balance. I was planning to do the bike but didn’t have enough time.
Tuesday: 3 mile run/walk, Run and 10 Core workout
Wednesday: 1 hour strength training
I mostly used the TRX for this workout and also added in some mobility work.
Thursday: 3 mile run/walk and Run and 10 Glute workout
By Thursday by allergies were pretty bad, and I felt like I had to sneeze the whole time I was outside. I don’t really sneeze while I am running for some reason, but for the rest of the day I was sneezing quite a bit.
Friday: Run and 10 Upper Body DVD, Foam rolling
We took a half day to leave for the drive to Cleveland. In the morning I tried to get some blog stuff taken care of so only had time for a short workout.
Saturday: 4 mile run/walk
I did a run/walk around Rob’s parents’ neighborhood. It was nice and flat, and I found a good loop to take.
Around 10 we headed downtown to the expo, and then just hung out at his parents’ the rest of the day so he could rest up.
Sunday: Cheering on Rob in the Cleveland Marathon
This was kind of a workout. I spent most of the morning driving but was also running to and from my car so I didnt miss him. I ran a half mile in the pouring rain at the end to try to see him at the finish line…with a backpack and umbrella which was being blown all over the place by the wind. So I’m not calling this a rest day:)
I know this upcoming week is going to be a little crazy as there is a lot going on and we are getting back Monday afternoon (so a short work week). I hope to share more about the race in a few days, but I can’t make any promises. Thanks to everyone who wished Rob good luck on Instagram! He told me that one of the reasons he kept running was because he know I would be posting about his race on my blog. So you all motivated him!!

Who else raced (or spectated a race) this weekend?
Anyone else dealing with spring allergies?
Are you motivated by knowing you will be posting about a race on your blog/social media/etc?
Linking up with Holly, Tricia, and Wendy for the Weekly Wrap!
congrats to rob again! I can’t wait to hear all about it. I am sure that knowing you would be writing about his marathon was motivation! Allergies are pretty bad this year. My son can’t stop blowing his nose even with the allergy medication.
Ive managed to avoid taking any allergy meds because I don’t like how I feel on them. Ive just been sneezing alot so I feel like I can handle that.
Way to go Rob! It sounds like the weather wasn’t great but you pulled out a big PR anyway!
And awesome job coach! Can’t wait to hear more!
Thanks so much! Yea, the weather wasn’t ideal but at least the rain held out until the end, so I think by then it felt good for the runners.
Sounds like Rob had a great race how fun to watch him 6 times. I love that!
I was so glad I got to see him in a lot of places!
Glad to hear you guys had a good weekend. Can’t wait to hear how the race went for Rob! I bet you were happy you were just a spectator and not running it if it ended up raining!
It was definitely a weird feeling to not be running, but so much less stressful!
Congrats to Rob! Isn’t it SO gratifying as a coach to see him do so well? Can’t wait to hear more. Looks like a strong week for you. I agree that spectating can be very grueling. Allergies have been tough this season here too. I don’t sneeze much but the itcy watery eyes and scratchy throat drive me nuts.
For me its just been sneezing, so I can handle that. When other symptoms start up thats when I start taking allergy meds (Ive avoided them so far this season).
I’ve had so much fun cheering on MCM. How great that you got to see Rob so many times during the race and congrats to him!
Thanks! I bet MCM was a really fun race to spectate!
I’ve spectated the Chicago Marathon and it’s fun! I like seeing all the different runners come through. Glad Rob had a good day!
Its a strange feeling to be cheering and not racing, but I think it was nice to get a different perspective! I also found it to be much less stressful.
Yay Rob! I can say that spectating a race is a serious undertaking, and you should totally count it as a workout!
I definitely agree, I’m exhausted today!
Looks like you had a solid week of training.
Congrats to Rob on his huge PR, and also congrats to you for being an awesome coach!
Thanks so much!
Congrats to Rob!! Spectating always seems like hard work, especially during a marathon. It’s so gratifying as a coach to see an athlete hit their goal – great job to you as well on coaching!
Thank you! I was so happy to see that he did well. The weather made it tough but I was proud of him for pushing though.
Go Rob!!! That’s awesome he crushed his goal. 🙂
I agree, spectating is NOT a rest day. Paul always brags after cheering for me at a race because he’s so tired from “clapping at least 200 times” 🙂
I know, my hands were so tired from clapping after like 5 minutes! So then I just held up the sign I made and cheered instead.
I only spectated once, and it was pouring rain. I was under shelter for a majority of the race, but thankfully it ended so I could walk over to the finish line in time.
It didnt start raining until towards the end of the race, but when he finished it was a full on downpour. He didnt want to stick around so we headed straight home.
Yes, allergies and I can’t take anything because I’m pregnant. BOO. But way more importantly, congrats to Rob! I was SO HAPPY when I saw your post on Instagram! I showed it to Andrew and now he’s getting all competitive. 😉 Will you share Rob’s training plan? Pretty please?
Of course! I’ll send it to you now! I didnt realize you couldn’t take allergy meds if you’re pregnant. That’s awful!
Congrats to Rob! Looks like you had a great week o workouts too! I dint race this weekend but ran in a 2k youth run with my daughters, they loved it!
That sounds like so much fun! It always makes me happy to see kids enjoying running at a young age. And thank you!
YAY for Rob! I love spectating marathons…the finish line is awesome!
The energy at a marathon, especially the finish line, is just amazing!
The peer pressure of the blog even gets spouses. Lol! My allergies have been ridiculous this past week and I don’t even have allergies. It’s all been in my throat which is just plain nasty.
Ugh that’s the worst. Mine has been mostly just sneezing (constantly) which I can handle, Im just hoping the other symptoms don’t start popping up.
Weird, I commented (I think!) early this morning, but either I did something wrong (certainly possible) or it got held back.
Anyway, congratulations to your husband! And I do appreciate the effort of spectating. I once spectated my husband’s Ironman. I tried to tell him that cheering on athletes for 13 hours was almost as hard as doing the race, but he didn’t buy it. 🙂
Oh no, sorry about the comment! I check my spam pretty regularly and its not in there. Not sure what happened.
I think that spectating an Ironman would be exhausting! And as spectators we don’t even get a medal:)
Allergies are the worst. We’ve had some really bad fires in the area, so the smoke is also working its way into the mix.
You had a great week.
I haven’t spectated at a race in a while, but I will be in a few weeks, for little man.
Im sure that will be fun to watch his race!
Looks like you had a great week of training and congrats to Rob!! I’m okay with allergies but I had a terrible sinus infection the week before my last half. I’ve never run a race so sick. All of my kids are suffering from allergies right now. Hope you have a great week!
Im sure it was really tough to run your half with a sinus infection! Hope your kids get some relief from their allergies.
So glad that the race went well for Rob! Congrats on that hefty PR too! I enjoying being a spectator at races. It’s actually quite a job figuring out the logistics of seeing your runner at various points and getting around! I think spectating the Boston marathon was more fun than running it in the rain was 🙂
I bet that Boston would be a really fun one to watch! But yes, its definitely challenging to figure out all the logistics of watching a race.
Congrats to the hubby! I think it would be fun to just be a spectator and watches your family and friends give it their all! It is very cool that you were able to get around and see him from a couple of points in the race- nice job!
I think being able to move around and see him a bunch of times made it more fun for me. Im sure I would have gotten bored staying in the same place for 4 hours!
Haha! That’s so awesome Rob was motivated to keep running because of your blogging. 🙂
I was really surprised when he said that! But I can relate. Knowing my race time will be on social media definitely motivates me!
Congrats to Rob – PR by 11 minutes is awesome! I Can’t wait to hear more about it. I’ve spectated races before and it is definitely NOT a rest day haha
That’s for sure! And I feel like Im still in recovery mode this week!
Congratulations to Rob on his PR! I spectated Bret at the last marathon he did, it was definitely a workout because I had to keep going to different locations along the course to find him! Great job with your workouts. TRX is a tough one for me!
Its so fun to see runners in different places on the course but also makes it really exhausting!
Congrats on a great week of training! Oh my gosh, my spring allergies have been bad this year. It seems like the worse year yet! Or is that just me? Have a great holiday weekend! 🙂
I agree this has been one of the worst years for allergies! Hope you have a great weekend too!
