Loving/Not Loving Lately

I’ve never done a post like this before, but I thought I would share some of my favorite things lately as well as some things that I am not exactly loving. Let’s see how this goes!

Loving/Not Loving Lately

Loving: Our deck which is finally finished! My favorite thing is to sit out there on weekend mornings with my coffee. Last weekend Rob and I got back from our runs, ate breakfast, and then headed out to the deck with our coffee. I also like sitting out there and watching the sun rise.

deck

Not Loving: All the drama that went along with getting our deck furniture. We chose to buy our set from Haverty’s partly because it was in stock. The day before it was supposed to be delivered they said they had to send it back because a cushion was missing. Once they rescheduled, they ended up sending it with the wrong cushion anyway! A few weeks later, they were supposed to send a replacement (the entire set- because it would be too easy to just replace the cushion) and that had to be rescheduled too. One of these days we will get our missing cushion, maybe.

Loving: This new curling iron. I had wanted to get a thicker one, and when Janae posted a huge discount on this one I couldn’t resist. I feel like it just takes a few minutes to add some waves and is easier than using a smaller curling iron and trying to cover all my hair.

curling iron

Not Loving: I’ve burned myself twice already since using this curling iron. I even wore the glove it came with on one of my hands, but I burned the thumb of my other hand and the front of my shoulder.

Loving: Double Duckpin beer from Union Craft Brewery (a local Baltimore brewery that we visited in June). With an 8.5% alcohol volume, this stuff is strong, so one is (usually) enough. I’ve definitely been enjoying IPAs this summer!

duckpin

Not Loving: Throwing away half full bottles of white wine. I only drink white when I’m REALLY in the mood, so I’l have a glass or two, and then I end up not wanting white again for weeks so the rest of the bottle gets tossed. Rob never drinks white any more either.

wine

Loving: My new Lululemon shorts. I had been hanging on to a gift card since Christmas so I finally used it for a new running outfit. I had never tried Lululemon shorts before and they did not disappoint!

Not Loving: That I’ll still wearing this silly tape on my foot. I’m glad I found a brand that stays on longer but I am really over having to deal with the tape at all. And I’m too nervous to stop wearing it.

Loving: These brownies that I randomly decided to make. They’re so simple and definitely hit the spot when I needed a chocolatey dessert!

Not Loving: The fact that our microwave was recalled. Apparently it can start a fire, so we were told to stop using it and unplug it until it can be replaced. Luckily we saved the old one from our apartment! (If you have a Whirlpool you can check here to see if yours was recalled) I called about it last Friday, and still haven’t heard about about when they can replace it.

ugh that’s so annoying about the microwave especially when it’s one of the built in ones! reminds me that my son’s hover board thing had another recall, i have to return his as we have been afraid to charge it since last winter when they reported it could cause a fire.

Oh wow thats pretty scary! I think the worst was when I found out last summer that my airbag was being recalled in my car that I have been driving for 15 years! Luckily I had never needed it.

If you threw away wine, it must be terrible. I wonder if there was something wrong with the bottle? We had to throw away a bottle of skunked wine one time at the restaurant. Skunked wine that cost $150. That was tragic.

It was just old. I feel like white tastes really funny after its been opened. I can maybe go a week, but any longer than that and I throw it out. A skunked $150 bottle of wine is definitely a tragedy!

I stopped drinking white for a while because I would never finish it. I’d use some to cook so at least it got some use. This summer I bought white in a box because those last so much longer (30 days) and didn’t lose their taste as quickly. Bottles of white seem to only taste good for a day or two!

I definitely need to try buying it in a box next time! Or I need to remember to plan to cook with it.

Bugh. Sorry about the microwave and the wrong cushion. I hate when that happens. Glad you are loving your new deck! I love that it’s finally cooled enough here to actually sit on ours without baking!

Agreed! For a little while there it was way too hot to even really use it, but now it’s been perfect.

Can you get boxed wine? I feel like that lasts a lot longer!

    Your deck looks great!

Thats a really good idea and I will need to try that! And thanks!

everyone i know has had issues with deck furniture ordered online! that is so strange and what a hassle to deal with but it looks so relaxing! i love sitting on our patio in the morning after a run and just letting my body relax. do you use an airtight seal for your wine? when you use that you can extend the life for a few months…just in case you didnt already know that 🙂

    • Lisa @ Running Out Of Wine says

      September 2, 2016 at 7:57 pm

Hmm I don’t think I have tried an airtight seal. We usually get twist off bottles so I thought that would keep it fresh but it doesnt really help all that much. Thats a good idea!

I pretty much only wear lulu shorts now. I never used to be that way but they’re just SO comfortable. I always burn myself on curling irons and hair straighteners, that’s the worst!!

      September 2, 2016 at 7:58 pm

I really want to invest in a few more pairs of Lulu shorts! I love all the pockets.

You threw away wine?! I’ll do it on occasion if I don’t like that particular wine, but I still save bottles. I drink whites a lot more in the summer, then reds in the winter. I keep both in my wine fridge, but it’s definitely seasonal, based on what I can make.

    • Lisa @ Running Out Of Wine says

      September 2, 2016 at 7:58 pm

I just don’t drink it often enough and it ends up going bad. I hate throwing it out but I just don’t think it tastes the same after a week or so.

Boxed wine is where it’s at! I don’t like white either, but I bought some when I had my friend visiting and I actually ended up liking it the next day but only because it was SO hot out. I think that’s the only way I can drink white, if it’s really cold and the weather is super hot. I told you this already but I’m in love with your deck furniture. I’m going to stalk Craigslist.

      September 2, 2016 at 7:59 pm

I definitely go for white when its really hot out, and sometimes I really enjoy it. I am learning all about boxed wine from everyones comments and definitely need to give it a try!

Love lulu shorts, I wouldn’t run in anything else now! Microwave recall is so odd, and I also hate throwing away wine but it happens often since Adam doesn’t drink wine at all lol 🙂

      September 2, 2016 at 8:00 pm

Rob will drink red with me but never white. And I have no problem finishing a bottle of red over a week or so, plus I feel like it lasts a little longer than white. I’m so glad I tried the lulu shorts- they are great!

I am HOPELESS when it comes to curling irons because I always burn myself. Totally uncoordinated 😛

I totally understand your tape anxiety! When I was dealing with ITB and Achilles issues I felt like I was certainly doomed once I stopped wearing it – only to find that hey! my body actually knows what it’s doing!

      September 2, 2016 at 8:01 pm

I really couldn’t believe I burned myself twice in one week! You would have thought I’d be extra careful at least for a little bit.

That brownie looks amazing!!! Lately I’ve been loving all the fall stuff that coming into stores 🙂

I am afraid to go into Lululemon bc I know I will spend too much. I wish I had a gift card for there. I don’t drink alot of white wine either and it just sits in my fridge until I end up throwing it out. It is definitely a summer drink.

Seriously, they wouldn’t deliver your furniture because of one cushion? And it wasn’t there anyways? Ugh. It feels like nothing goes right these days with big purchases.

I’m loving that I’m running a little bit more, but not loving that my foot is twinging again. Come on, man!

Oh my gosh I love Lululemon running shorts! The Speed Shorts are my absolute favorites! Your list does crack me up – the same things would bother me. I don’t throw out much wine, but I’m also not as picky as you are and make sure to finish my bottles before they need to be dumped 🙂 Scary stuff about your microwave! I’ll have to check mine once I get home! It’s always something with houses right?

  16. Sam says

    September 3, 2016 at 10:59 am

I’m not sure if you can do this white wine, but when I can’t finish a bottle of red in time, I add it to a really easy lentil recipe I have. It usually uses up whatever dregs are left in the bottle and I don’t care if it’s been open for a while. Then open a fresh one to drink while cooking 😉

Your deck looks so comfy! I have heard soooo many horror stories about ordering furniture from different places. It makes me scared to ever order something 🙂 The only furniture I’ve purchased has been in stock at the store and they delivered it the same day without any issue.

I cannot use a wand curling iron for the life of me without burning myself so I feel you there!

Fall is pretty good too but there’s nothing like Fall is pretty good too but there’s nothing like seeing the sunrise on a morning run! As an early morning riser I would be fine with a 4am sunrise but I know that’s not for everyone so I will just enjoy the 2 months of the year when the sun is up (almost) as early as me. #morningrunner #sunriserun
Let them be your reason, not your excuse. I coul Let them be your reason, not your excuse.

I could sit here and tell you how hard it is to train with 2 young kids. How I rarely get a full night’s sleep anymore. How they got me sick the week before my race. How my SI joint just isn’t the same since my pregnancies. But that wouldn’t be fair, because I need to listen to my own advice that I give them about how to keep working hard and that there will always be obstacles to overcome.

After my race on Sunday I was thinking about how my Kindergartner has been working for a special award all year long. Many times he has told me he just wants to give up, because he works so hard for months at a time and still hasn’t earned it. I keep telling him that if he keeps working hard he will earn it, but what’s most important is that he gives his best each and every day. All those good days add up and even if he doesn’t earn the award, it will mean he had a great year.

Don’t I need to take my own advice and remember that all the good training days add up, even if I don’t get the outcome I want on race day? Before my race he kept telling me to do my best, and that he would give me a prize (artwork) even if I don’t win. So maybe all the lessons I am teaching him are starting to pay off? #motherrunner #halfmarathon #frederickrunfest
I can pretty much see the humidity as I look back I can pretty much see the humidity as I look back on these videos. After a few days to process my race I am feeling better about how it went and starting to focus on what’s next. I guess it’s officially time to acclimate to the heat and humidity because it’s not getting cooler any time soon! My full recap is up at milebymileblog.com

Have you acclimated to the warmer weather yet?
