This weekend was much different that the past few…unlike the 4th of July weekend and having visitors come to Baltimore, we spent this weekend relaxing and it was pretty marvelous.
- On Saturday I got a great long run in, as I wrote about here. For the first time in awhile I was excited to go out and run for more than an hour, even though the weather was not ideal. It was a challenging run both mentally and physically, but gave me that reminder of how I will need to push through runs like that when I am back to training for my next marathon.
- After my run on Saturday I took my time getting motivated to start the day, but then we got grocery shopping done AND I did all my meal prep. Since we have a short week, we figured we could do that stuff on Saturday. (Usually we prefer to go on Sunday so that the produce will last longer into the week).
- Sunday morning was so relaxing. We drank smoothies and sat around drinking coffee for several hours. I skipped free yoga at the inner harbor because mornings like this don’t come around too often.
- Getting a mani/pedi on Friday was another highlight of the weekend. That’s one of my favorite splurges especially at the end of the work week.
- We’re going to Maine on Thursday! Rob’s grandpa has a house there and his family has been going there forever (he has some other family in the area too). They hadn’t gone in a awhile and a couple years after we started dating they decided to start going again. I was invited and it was my first trip with his family. Today my timehop reminded me that this was 7 years ago!
I’m excited for the cooler weather and easy-going lifestyle up there. We always talk about how everyone there is so friendly and when we are out running everyone waves to everyone else (even people driving by in cars). That just doesn’t happen in Baltimore.
Thanks, Katie!
Tell me something marvelous about your weekend!

Glad you had a relaxing weekend! Ours was fun but not relaxing – we visited Adams college friends in Connecticut and it was a one big party all weekend, which apparently we are just too old for. Plus I attempted to water ski and I’m now really sore in addition to exhausted.
Maine will be so nice for you guys! Also, we had almost the exact same run sat morning- 10 miles and mine was 8:46 pace!

Sounds like a fun weekend, although I know how tiring that can be! I’m sure you’re excited to get back to your routine.
I saw your run on instagram right after I finished and was thinking how it was like exactly the same-too funny! I wonder if that will happen even more once we are training (although I’m sure your paces will be much faster than mine:))

Love the mani/pedi. I have a gift certificate for one that I’ve been itching to use, but just haven’t had the time. Maybe this week! Our weekend was pretty relaxing too, which always makes me feel a little more refreshed heading into the office Monday morning. Have fun in Maine!

Gift certificates to the salon are the best! I agree that a relaxing weekend definitely makes me more prepared to move back into the workweek.

Almond butter muffins sound incredible… almond butter is one of my absolute favorite foods. Have a great time in Maine!
[email protected] says
They’re so good and really easy to make! I have only recently started eating almond butter and it is so amazing!

Nice mug lover.
Will see u in a week and a half.
Have fun in Maine!

It is definitely my favorite mug! We can talk next week when I get back and figure out a time/place for happy hour. Should be fun!
Susie @ SuzLyfe says
I’ve never been to Maine but I hear s) it is gorgeous and b) there are giant swarms of black flies in the summer. But I think that the lobster would be worth it 😉 Alex and I did NOT have a relaxing weekend–in fact, I am plum wore out! But I definitely did the same thing that you did–I skipped yoga on Thursday in favor of spending just one more hour at home with my boy. I don’t get hardly any of those, so it was totally worth it.
[email protected] says
Oh no I don’t remember seeing any giant swarms of black flies! I will look out for them but hopefully I don’t see any because that sounds pretty gross. I am not a huge lobster fan but we do lobsters one time while we are there and I do eat a little bit.
Your weekend sounds busy but fun and hopefully you have a somewhat relaxing week to make up for it!
Sam @ The Running Graduate says
Maine is so wonderful, I’m happy to see you’re going and can’t wait to read about it! Hopefully you’ll have good weather.
I live about 10 minutes from the Maine boarder, so I go often. I love all the lighthouses they have on the coast.
[email protected] says
That’s so nice that you live so close to Maine! I am really excited to go back and I will definitely take pictures and share my trip on the blog. I also hope we have good weather! But at this point I feel like anything is better than the Baltimore humidity!

Looks like an amazing relaxing weekend! I need a mani-pedi so bad! We spent all day Saturday at the beach on Lake Michigan. It was perfect. 😀 Coming from MIMM linkup!
[email protected] says
That sounds like a perfect way to spend the weekend! I love the beach and really wish we lived closer to one.
Thanks for stopping by!

What a nice relaxing weekend. Drinking coffee and getting a pedi. Can’t beat that.

Yep, definitely a great way to spend the weekend if you ask me!

Fun weekend!
BEST part: taking my horse out bareback through the cornfields,
then coming home and playing horse shoes with my hubby!
[email protected] says
Wow that sure is a different kind of fun! You don’t hear about that on the east coast!:) Glad you had a good weekend too!

I am glad you had a nice weekend! Your meal prep looks awesome, as usual! I hope you have a wonderful trip!

Weekends like this are the best! Sometimes there is nothing better than skipping some yoga or a run or something else on Sunday morning and just being lazy with coffee and a book or something 🙂 nice job getting out there on Saturday for your long run 🙂 Maine sounds like it will be an awesome time! We went when I was really little, so I don’t remember it very much, but I’d love to go back some day!
[email protected] says
If you like quiet and relaxing vacations, then Maine is definitely the place to go! I agree that sometimes just staying home and enjoying the little things make for the best weekends.
Michael Anderson says
Sounds like an awesome and totally chill weekend with a great run in there as well!
I love Maine! Few years since we’ve been up, but we spent loads of time up and down the coast over the years! Enjoy – it is sure to be a blast!
[email protected] says
Thanks, Michael! It was just the kind of weekend I needed- not much else besides running and relaxing.
I’ve only been to this one part of Maine but I would love to see some other areas at some point! It’s so beautiful and relaxing up there.
Natalie @ Never Serious Blog says
I love your nail color! Also that mug. Basically just that entire picture. 🙂
[email protected] says
Haha thank you! That seems to be my go-to nail color this summer. And I got the mug from my friend for my bridal shower- I think it’s from Anthropologie!
Alexis @ Run Crush says
Relaxing weekends are the best, especially after a couple busy ones in a row. I had a busy weekend, but it was AMAZING. One of my very best friends got engaged, so it was great to celebrate with her and her fiance. I also got to see Phantom of the Opera in Boston. Incredible!
[email protected] says
Congrats to your friend – that is so exciting! Glad you had a fun weekend, too!
Hailey says
What a nice weekend! Just relaxing and drinking coffee is my most favorite part about the weekends :). Those almond butter muffins sound so good…with coffee too ha 😉 I’m a huge almond butter fan!
[email protected] says
The muffins are so easy to make- I think this is the 3rd week in a row that I have made them.
It was really nice to slow down and relax this weekend. Usually on Sundays I start doing errands early in the day, so it was a nice change to just do nothing for a few hours:)
Audrey @ In Shape Cupcake says
Love your nails!
I got in 8 miles Saturday. It was supposed to be 10 miles but the rain slowed me way down, feet got wet, blistered started to form. But 8 miles is still good in my books.
Also, i need some of those almond butter muffins. oh my gosh, sounds way too gooood!

My cousin is getting married in Maine the first weekend in August! I was supposed to go and now I’m sad that I’m going to miss out. I love it up there.
Please to be telling me about this free Inner Harbor yoga. I need to check this out!
[email protected] says
I bet that’s going to be a beautiful wedding in Maine!
The yoga class is on Sundays at 8am next to the visitor center! It’s run by Charm City Yoga. I’m hoping to go the weekend of August 3rd but I think I’m away all the other Sundays this summer, except maybe labor day. But you should definitely check it out!http://www.waterfrontpartnership.org/news/20/waterfront-wellness–free-fitness-classes They say to register just so you get E-mail notifications about cancellations and stuff.

Nice Run! I am just starting marathon training up, so I haven’t done double digits since my half marathon on June 1! Time to get back into it.
Enjoy your time away! It sounds relaxing!
[email protected] says
Good luck with your running as you move back into marathon training! What race are you doing?
Laura @ RunningJunkie says
I’m thinking I want to do the Richmond Marathon in November and (possibly) the Army Navy Half Marathon in September.
[email protected] says
That’s awesome- I’ve heard great things about both those races!
Lauren @ ihadabiglunch says
Your food prep is so impressive. And you reminded me…I need a pedicure ASAP. 🙂 And I love the pictures of you two…isn’t it sweet to look at pics like that? Such a fun blast from the past.
[email protected] says
It’s so sad because I get a pedicure and then its ruined in 2 days from all the running.
It can be pretty fun looking at old pictures! Now that we’ve been together for 9 years I feel like we looked like such babies when we first met!
Sue @ This Mama Runs for Cupcakes says
Where is Maine do you go? I am up in NH/Maine this week! And what is Timehop? That looks like a cool app!
[email protected] says
I can never remember the name of the town, I just know it’s near Bowdoin college!
The timehop app links with your facebook and/or iphone and then shows you pictures that were taken that day in past years!
Enjoy your time away!:)
Dannii @ Hungry Healthy Happy says
I love visiting places where everyone waves and says hello to each other. That doesn’t happen where I am from either, so it makes a nice change.
I love Maine too!

I know, it’s so nice to be around people who are so friendly!
