Philadelphia Marathon Training Week 13

This week felt much more like a taper week than last week. On Monday my legs felt fresh and ready to run, but other easy runs over the week felt kind of sluggish. I’ve also been really tired, so running less has been a good thing.

Philadelphia Marathon Training Week of 11/9-11/15:

Sunday: Rest

Monday: 7.16 miles with 5 @ MGP (ended up being faster) (average pace 7:54) PM: 75 minutes hot yoga

monday

Tuesday: 6.01 miles easy (9:13 pace), core work

tuesday

Wednesday: 4.2 miles easy (8:58 pace)

wendesday
Rusty Scupper and Federal Hill are back there somewhere

Thursday: 3.11 miles easy (8:58 pace), core workthursday

Friday: Rest …I started stalking the weather forecast…

weather

Saturday: 8.2 miles (average pace 8:04) This was much faster than it should have been, but it was so cold out and I just wanted to run fast to warm up! I had a downhill on mile 3 and ran it in like 7:43, and from there I just kind of held a faster pace than usual. I definitely felt strong during this run but I know I really should’t be pushing the pace too much this close to the race.

ft mchenry

Total: 28.68 miles

It’s getting really close now!

One week to go! I’m switching around my runs completely for the last week based on the weather and probably just my nerves. I know when I start focusing on small details I’m in full taper mode! I’m sure the forecast for next Sunday will change a few times before it’s here. It’s already changed twice since I’ve looked!

I’m sure it will change just about every day this week! And the next few days look like there weather will be all over the place, so I have no idea what to expect!

The weather has been weird- warm for a few days then suddenly super cold. I am with you though when it’s cold – I speed up to warm up faster! It usually works too.

I’m not sure what is going on with this weather! Looks like the next few days will be crazy again, too.

I stalk the weather too, I can’t help it! It seems like it’s every five minutes that I’m checking it!

Those are great runs…I can’t believe it’s already a week away!

I know that the weather will change a million times between now and next weekend, but I can’t help checking it anyway!

Awesome week! It’s so exciting that your marathon is so close!!
My runs this week have been good! Yesterday and today I woke up to snow on the ground, which is not as good…

I can’t believe there is snow in so many places already! Its only mid November!

The weather’s been freezing here. There’s been frost on my car every morning now when I wake up. I think Fall is officially over in New England. I need to invest in some warmer running clothes now.

Yea it sounds like winter has come early this year, and I’m not happy about it!

I hardly ever think the first week feels like a taper, it’s the second week where you really start to feel it! We’ve had really cold temps this past week and it’s snowing now….I was hoping to get caught in the snow at the end of my run this morning….but I missed it. Beautiful pictures!

We haven’t had any real snow yet here, but I can tell that winter is definitely coming earlier than usual. Snowy runs are so pretty!

I can’t believe it either! Time to rest up!

I’m constantly stalking the weather even if I don’t have a race on the schedule! I have no idea why since our weather is fairly consistent during the winter (80s during the day, 70s at night), but I always hope that I’ll check the forecast and see something cold on there! 😀

What time do you go to your hot yoga class? I really want to start taking yoga, but I’m not sure if I should go early in the morning before work, or around 7pm-ish after work.

Its always good to be in the know about the weather:) The yoga classes I go to are at 5:30. I usually get home from work at 4:30 so it works with my schedule, but I am also in bed by 9 so I don’t like going to classes any later than that:)

Yesterday’s’ long run was 16 miles with 6 x 1 Yesterday’s’ long run was 16 miles with 6 x 1 mile MP/1 mile easy. I took a few hours of PTO in the morning to do this on the trail because I knew wouldn’t be able to do it this weekend. This was my first time on the trail since my marathon last November. It was nice to be back there and the perfect place to do this kind of long run. It was the kind of run where you start thinking “ok cool I just did a tough MP workout” but then you remember you actually need to run 26 miles in a row at that pace. Luckily there’s still 9 more weeks of training…although that doesn’t really sound like that much!
41 miles for the week and got in 2 strength sessions. Taking it easy this weekend other than chasing the kids around for all their activities! #run #marathontraining #longrun
It’s kind of freeing to not care about pace. It It’s kind of freeing to not care about pace. It is a little frustrating to have to plan more time for an easy run. But it’s definitely worth it to recover quicker and feel better on workout days! #run #marathongtraining #easyrun
You know marathon training is starting to get real You know marathon training is starting to get real when you start losing track of what training week it is. I had to check my calendar but this was week 6, so 10 weeks to go!

I ran the Charles Street 12 last weekend so this week was all about easy miles and recovering from the race. That went well until I went and ran all the hills yesterday followed by walking around a maze and fun park for 5 hours. I got in some strength and mobility this morning and now I’m back to focusing on recovery!

If you’re training for a race how many weeks do you have left?

15 miles, over 1,100 feet of elevation gain, and 9 15 miles, over 1,100 feet of elevation gain, and 91% humidity 🫠 Pretty sure that was harder than my race last weekend, but got it done. Now off to my second workout of the day- taking the kids to an outdoor fun park. RIP to my legs.
What are you up to this weekend?
