This week was all about squeezing in my workouts after my return from Disney. I didn’t get in any workouts while I was away, but did do quite a bit of walking.
We had a great trip although the weather was kind of cool for Florida. It was in the low 30s when we woke up on Sunday morning! Most days it was in the 50s but it did get into the high 60s on Tuesday, our last day there.
I did pack workout clothes but logistically it just wasn’t happening. Our days started around 7:30am which would mean running in the dark (we weren’t familiar with the resort and didn’t have a headlamp). We were staying at the Polynesian which didn’t have a gym, although we could have used the one next door at the Grand Floridian, but that would be about a 15 minute walk.
Honestly, it sort of worked out because I was so exhausted from walking all day that I didn’t need any additional time on my feet. I ended up getting in my workouts when I returned anyway, so it all worked out.
Workouts Week of 1/15/18:
Monday and Tuesday: Walking at Disney
Wednesday: 30 minutes spin bike and strength training
Thursday: 4 mile run
Friday: 4 mile run
Saturday: 8 mile run
Sunday: 4 mile run and strength training
So somehow I got in 20 miles, 2 strength sessions, and a bike ride after returning on Wednesday afternoon. I’ll probably need to throw in an extra rest day next week!
The weather was so nice for my weekend runs and it felt great to be back outside! It’s definitely nice to have the treadmill as an option, but there is nothing like running outside. I’ll still probably stick to the treadmill on the weekday mornings for now since it’s just so convenient to hop on there and not have to layer up!

How were your workouts last week?
If you have been to Disney, did you work out while you were there?
Did you get in some warmer runs this weekend?

Disney is such a fun, yet physically exhausting trip! Really no need for planned workouts because the walking all day and night adds up and takes a toll. We like to stay at the Hilton bonnet creek and I did use the gym most days but kept it short and light because of what the day would bring me. I always need a vacation after being there! We just love it though, hope you had the best time!

It was a lot of fun, but really exhausting! My in-laws all went to their house in Florida for a few days after- I wish we had been able to do that because it would have been the perfect way to relax after a busy trip!
Kristina says
Ohh I haven’t been to the Polynesian in forever I didn’t realize it didn’t have a gym! It’s crazy to think of a big hotel like that not having a gym but I guess people get most of their exercise waking around and are too tired to hit the gym!
Great week after returning home! I am taking an extra rest day this week too. I hit new PRs in almost all of my lifts last week and my body is FEELING that lol!
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
I guess since the Grand Floridian isn’t too far away it makes sense that they can share a gym. I just didnt know exactly where it was and it was too much to figure out at 5:30 am while on vacation!

Fabulous job getting in all your workouts after Disney! I have never been to Disney, maybe someday! This week was arctic on Sunday and Monday and gradually warmed up into the 30s, which felt divine.. but are starting to turn my snowy, icy roads into mud so I have to run before it gets too warm out to avoid the mud.
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
Disney is a lot of fun! And its such a different experience going as an adult (the last time I was there I think I was in middle school). I hope you get in some good runs in the warmer weather!
Marcia says
You are right back to it! Nice work! The last several times I was to Disney I was wrangling kids so that in itself was workout enough. Haha!
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
Haha chasing around a 2 year old was a workout in itself but luckily there was 6 adults so we had her outnumbered:)
Kimberly G says
I’ve heard from many people that they often need another vacation after Disney because they do so much walking while they are there!
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
It’s so true! I think it would make sense to plan to do Disney for a few days and then go somewhere to relax for a few days afterwards.
Laura @ This Runner's Recipes says
It’s been over 17 years since I went to Disney yet I remember how much walking there is! When I went to London a couple years ago, I only went to the hotel gym twice because all the walking adds up. You did a great job in fitting in so many workouts after the trip!
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
The walking definitely does add up! I knew it would be alot I just didnt realize how tired it would make me. I guess I don’t have as much energy as I did as a kid!
Erinn says
Looks like another great week of workouts! I wonder how much walking you did at Disney! You really lucked out with the weather!
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
According to my Garmin I did almost 10 miles one day and 7-8 the others! No wonder I was exhausted!
Wendy says
It looks like you are really enjoying your treadmill! I agree, there is nothing like the convenience of being able to hop on and go. Plus there’s a bathroom nearby…
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
That is definitely an added bonus!
Laura says
It was such a treat to have those warmer days this weekend! It gives me hope that I can make it til spring. 🙂 And walking all over Disney definitely counts!
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
I think having these random warm days will help to break up the winter and make it a little easier to get through!
Heather says
I typically don’t workout while on vacation – especially Disney! But I will be training for an important race while visiting in March, so I think I’m going to have to at least try to run a few times while we’re there! Thankfully the Pop and AoA have the hourglass lake which is super easy to navigate even in the wee hours of the morn!
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
That sound like a great option for running while you are there!
lacey@fairytalesandfitness says
We really like the Polynesian and have stayed there several times during race actions so we could walk to the start. Sounds like you made up for your missed workout when you returned.
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
The Polynesian was nice! Being in Disney made me really want to do a race there one day (last time I was there I was in middle school and not yet a runner!)
Lesley says
Unless I’m doing a race at Disney, I don’t pack running gear. I’m on my feet so much in the parks, it’s so nice to just sit and do nothing at the resorts. I have wondered what my steps would look like with a day at the parks.
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
I don’t know if my Garmin was accurate but it said I did anywhere from 7-10 miles each day! And honestly, I think the time standing on my feet in lines was more tiring than walking around.
ANgela @ happy Fit mama says
When your vacation is full of walking, it definitely counts as a workout. I’ve never been to Disney and honestly would rather never go but my kids are pleading. Sigh. I’m exhausted just thinking about it!
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
It really is exhausting! Its so much different going as an adult. However, now that they have Fast Passes it makes a huge difference with being able to do more rides in a shorter amount of time!
Jessica says
I’ve never stayed at the Polynesian, but I’d like to! When we went in November, I got in one run on the jogging trails through my resort. It was dark, but I appreciated how well lit the path was. I used the gym at the Boardwalk when we stayed there, but that time was a much lazier trip. With all the walking required, Disney itself is a workout!
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
On our last night there we walked part of the running trail and saw that it was pretty well lit. But I think it all worked out because any running would have just made me more tired!
HoHo Runs says
Disney is such an active vacation! I think I remember hearing the average person walks over 10 miles a day there. That’s enough. 😉 I usually come back with shin splints because I don’t walk very much. I run. It’s different. LOL. We adore wining and dining our way around Epcot too. You sure did get a lot of miles run in just half a week! Thanks for linking.
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
My Garmin said I walked just about 10 miles at Epcot! The other days were more like 7-8 miles but my sister in laws Fitbit was saying much higher than that. Honestly, I think standing still in lines was more tiring than actually walking!
Teresa says
I’m with Marcia …the only times I’ve ever been to Disney was with three little boys and just keeping up with them was more than enough working out! Lol You certainly made up for the missed workouts when you got home though …great job!
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
Walking around Disney is tiring in itself but chasing kids just makes it even more exhausting!
Kimberly Hatting says
Wow, 20 miles with half a week of “training?” That’s pretty intense! We’re headed to Disney at the end of March for spring break…I’m bringing my running shoes, but don’t know if I’ll get the opportunity. All the walking that happens is crazy! Plus, I’ll be doing “hotel room” calisthenics every morning (planking, push-ups, squats, lunges, more push-ups LOL).
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
I thought about working out in the room but Rob and I slept in the pull out couch in the living room. Im sure I would have woken someone up (probably our 2 year old niece) if I had started working out at 5am!
