Running Coaching Giveaway!

Can anyone else believe that it’s almost time to start training for spring races? I certainly can’t! My next half-marathon is in March, which means I’ll probably  start training for that in a few weeks! I’m excited but also a little nervous about the weather. At least I’m not training for  a full marathon like last winter!

coaching

Have you started to plan your spring races? Ever considered working with a running coach? I became certified as a running coach through RRCA last June, but spent the rest of the year focusing mostly on my own running. I did help one of my friends train for her first half-marathon (which she completed, in her goal time!) Now I want to shift my focus more on helping others reach their running goals!

katie after

I decided to host a giveaway involving coaching services as a way to get started! I’m giving away either a training plan for a specific race (up to 18 weeks) or 6 weeks of individual, online coaching services  geared towards a specific race (which would include a 6 week plan and weekly check-ins). If you win the giveaway, you can choose which option you want!

Also, if you sign up for any of my coaching services by December 31st, 2014, I’ll send you a free personalized “training kit”- with things like running related books, running fuel, and other fun accessories.

(If you win the giveaway, or buy a coaching service, you could also give the coaching service to someone else as a holiday gift!)

That really is a great idea. I’ve got a 1/2 in FL in Feb, just found out I got into the NYC 1/2 in March which I’m so excited for. Then a half each month until July. Looking to do my first marathon maybe in the fall. Any good 1st marathon suggestions? Trying to beat my 1/2 marathon time and get under 1:40. I’ve managed to do it 3 times on the treadmill at 1:35 but can’t outside…ugh. A running coach sounds like a great idea!

    • [email protected] says

      December 13, 2014 at 12:27 am

Wow first of all I am so impressed that you were able to run a 1:35 half marathon, on a treadmill, not in a race! That is awesome!
I think the Philly Marathon is a grew one! It was my first 3 years ago, and I ran it again this November.

I always want to take the program but it’s never offered near me! I keep checking! I don’t know when my next race is but it’s possible I will run a half in the city at the end of January. Other than that, I have a bunch starting in April on my list for the spring. We shall see!

I’ve never worked with a running coach, and though I think that it would be really cool, I’m almost scared to because I’m such a ruled by emotions runner, and I”m so picky about what I put my body through! But you? I trust 😀

    • [email protected] says

      December 13, 2014 at 12:31 am

Thanks! I think that you would be an awesome client because you are so aware of what is best for YOU as a runner. A coach can guide you and make suggestions, but I think its important for runners to also use their best judgement and not just do something because a coach said to. Good luck!

    • [email protected] says

Well I wouldn’t say I “specialize” in anything because I am only beginning coaching, but I would be happy to help anyone at any pace! When I helped my friend and my sister train for half marathons their only goal was to finish so we didn’t worry about pace at all. Arizona sounds like a great place to run a winter race!

    • [email protected] says

I’ve never worked with a running coach but I think it would be really helpful. I’m running the LA Marathon in March and might do a fall race, but haven’t decided yet. I only took one month between running LA 2014 and training for my fall race and then started training for LA again two weeks after that, so I think it might be good to take some time “off” next year…

    • [email protected] says

      December 14, 2014 at 7:20 pm

I know what you mean…I think Im gonna take some time off from doing a full marathon this spring and wait until next fall to do another. Its nice to cut back the mileage a bit once in a while!

Awesome giveaway! I’ve never worked with a running coach before but I would love to! I’m considering getting my own RRCA coaching certification and would want to experience it from the client side before becoming a coach.

My 2015 running goals are to get as close as possible to a 1:40 half marathon. I ran my first half marathon this November and finished in 1:46, so I know with the right training and discipline my goal is possible!

    • [email protected] says

      December 15, 2014 at 8:01 pm

That is an awesome goal! I am also planning to work towards breaking 1:40 this year. I just ran a 1:43 without really training (I was training for a full marathon) so I am feeling pretty good about it!
The RRCA training is really great- I just completed it in June but they fill up really fast so I ended up taking it in Cape Cod and making it into a mini vacation:)

Would it even be race week if I wasn’t a ball of n Would it even be race week if I wasn’t a ball of nerves and not able to sleep? This is my first big marathon in 10 years, my first time traveling to a race in 10 years, and my first time spending the night away from my kids. And of course I’m tapering so I can’t run off the nerves 🙃 #marathontraining #taper #richmondmarathon
Looked like fall, felt like summer 🍁 I was definit Looked like fall, felt like summer 🍁 I was definitely overdressed for this run but it was nice to not wear gloves or a headband! This was the run I needed a week before my marathon. After last week’s disaster of a long run it felt great to just run an easy 10 miles. (And these days 10 miles feels like nothing). I think I figured out the fueling and shoes 🤞so nothing left to do but take it easy, carb load, and get in the right mindset! Is it unseasonably warm where you are?

#running #marathontraining #longrun
Yesterday’s long run was not what I wanted it to b Yesterday’s long run was not what I wanted it to be. The plan was to take the day off from work, head to the trail where I could run 10 uninterrupted miles at MP (16 total) and practice my race day fueling while wearing my race day shoes.

What actually happened? All week I was stressed about this run and the condition of the trail. We had lots of rain on Thursday, and Friday was forecasted to be very windy. I tried to get in the best mindset possible, reminding myself that I won’t be able to control the conditions on race day. Meanwhile, I haven’t been sleeping well thanks to my 2 year old waking up every night, and my watch has been basically telling me that I’m losing all my fitness and need a week of recovery.

While I started the run feeling pretty good, after 11 miles (7 at MP) my stomach turned and I almost got sick on the side of the trail. I just couldn’t recover from that. The best I could do was run the rest of the miles easy, and needed some walk breaks. On top of that, my shoe kept rubbing my foot on top and I stopped twice to retie it. This has never happened before and now I’m questioning what shoes I should wear for the race. The trail was also in rough condition with several trees blocking it, lots of wet leaves, and rocks/sticks that I had to look out for.

I just can’t believe how bad I felt for the last 5 miles of this run and I can’t pinpoint the cause. Am I overdoing it with the fueling and can’t handle it on harder effort runs? Was it something I ate recently? The hard part is there’s no time to really try something different before the race, as all I have left is a 10 mile easy run next weekend.

I’m trying to remember that one bad run does not take away from all the good runs this training cycle. I’m using today to reset and move on so I can make the most of my last 2 weeks of training. It’s not the way I wanted my last big long run to go, but I suppose it was good practice for pushing through even when I felt pretty awful.

Who else has had a terrible long run close to your race?

#running #marathontraining #longrun
Spent almost every step of this 21 mile run questi Spent almost every step of this 21 mile run questioning my life choices. Like waking up at 3am to run 12 miles on the treadmill and 9 outside. This was a crazy week with a kid that wasn’t sleeping great and fighting a cold and super busy days at work. My legs were just tired the whole time today. It was really hard to run outside after so many treadmill miles and my pace was much slower than inside.

I reminded myself that this is peak week. It’s supposed to feel hard. If it was easy everyone would do it. I ran 53 miles this week and am not injured. The weather is perfect. I’ve gotten in every planned run of this training cycle so far. I get to do this.

And I managed to finish strong with my last 3 miles the fastest of the (outside) run. I owe that to a solid fueling plan and taking all my gels even when I really didn’t want to.

3 weeks to go until race day!
