Running For Two: Week 15

In case you missed it, yesterday on Instagram I shared that I’ve ben running for two! I’m 16 weeks along, which means I’ve been keeping this secret for quite some time. I’m at the point where it’s getting a little harder to hide, so it was definitely time to share! Today’s post will just be my usually weekly wrap, but if you’re interested I may share a little more tomorrow about how the last few months have been going.

This was week 15 of running for two, and it started out as a really hot one! Luckily the weather cooled off and I got in a great 10 miler at the end of the week. Click post to read more about this week's workouts! #running #workouts #pregnancy #fitness

Last week was such a strange week with the 4th of July falling on a Wednesday. Most of the week was still super hot, and I think by Wednesday I reached my limit for running in the heat. It was just brutal out there. Luckily by Saturday we had some cooler weather which felt amazing, and I got in my first pregnant double-digit run!

Monday: 4 miles + mobility

When I posted on Instagram after this run, I shared some of the ways you know it’s REALLY hot out, and got some great responses!

A post shared by Lisa: Running Coach & Mother Runner (@milebymile)

Tuesday: 20 minutes spin bike and Strength training

It was kind of nice to take a break from the heat for an indoor workout!

strength training

Wednesday: 6 miles + mobility

Ugh, this run was brutal. I got out the door later than I planned but I don’t even think that was the problem. It was just so hot and humid. I brought water but it got warm pretty much immediately. There were lots of walking breaks involved.

4th of July run

Thursday: Strength training

I just had time for strength training but no yoga, even though I know it would have felt really good!

Friday: 2 mile run/walk + mobility

Once again, I couldn’t decide what to do on a Friday (which is usually an optional run day for me). I did my mobility exercises and then jumped on the treadmill for a 20 minute run/walk.

Saturday: 10 miles

When I woke up on Saturday morning it was such a pleasant surprise to walk onto the deck and realize it was actually chilly outside! It was nice to not have to rush out the door for my run. It was amazing how much easier it felt  to run in 60 degree temps versus 80 degree temps.

saturday 10 miles

Sunday: Yoga

I didn’t get any yoga in this week, so Sunday was the day!

It was nice to have a cooler weekend although I’m sure the heat will be back soon. It seems like this summer has been all about surviving the heat!

IM SO EXCITED! Congrats! I had no idea from your posts at all! It seems like you have been feeling ok enough to keep up your routine, right? I give you so much credit! When I was pregnant, pretty quickly my gym routine switched to mostly walking. I definitely need to hear more so share whatever you want to share! I’m so happy 🙂

So in the beginning I wasn’t feeling great but I quickly learned that exercise helped me feel better, so I tried to do something most days, even if my runs involved a lot of walking breaks! It was crazy how quickly my pace slowed down!

I missed the announcement! CONGRATULATIONS!!!! I’m so happy for you! When I was pregnant I didn’t run at all. My workouts were all gym based or lots and lots of walking. I had zero desire to run.

      July 10, 2018 at 5:10 am

Thank you! I’ve still really been enjoying running so I’m going with it for now. I think being outside has felt really good too. But I don’t think I’ll be one of those people running at 9 months pregnant! I’m hoping to run for as long as I can and then switch to walking or other workouts.

When I was pregnant ( very early) with Katie, I came in First in a 5 mile race! I’ll always remember that, and I definitely kept running. I just can’t remember if I did more than 5 miles at a time. Keep running Lisa! It will help with so many things, especially when you deliver the little one!

      July 10, 2018 at 5:10 am

Wow, that’s awesome! I do hope to keep running for as long as I can! I just have no idea how it will feel a few months from now:)

Congrats again! I’m so excited for you! We were not here for the hot week, although it was brutally hot when we left. Coming home to beautiful not humid weather was amazing and makes such a difference with running. I was a bed rester starting at 16 weeks with both of my kids so I’ve got nothing to share in terms of running, except to say I was still able to make a strong comeback pretty quickly. AND I got faster after having kids!

      July 10, 2018 at 5:12 am

I’m glad you were able to come home to some nice weather!
I’ve heard so many people say they come back stronger after having kids. I hope that’s the same for me but its honestly kind of scary to think of everything my body will go through and then to try to come back to running! But I hope that’s the case!

    July 9, 2018 at 7:21 am

Congrats!!!! I didn’t know you were expecting but I was just thinking the other day that you weren’t racing…anyways, you’ve been running all along and that’s so great! I didn’t run during either of my pregnancies–I had zero energy–but like Marcia said, I had no problem coming back. It’s so worth it.

    • Lisa @ Mile By Mile says

      July 10, 2018 at 5:13 am

Haha definitely no racing lately! If I did race that may have been a dead giveaway if I shared a time that was much slower than usual for me:) I really hope you all are right about coming back to running! I’ve really enjoyed running so far but I know I still have a long way to go.

We had a slight dip in temperatures this weekend here in New Jersey. For a bit we had the windows open which felt so nice! Now the temperatures will be in the upper 80s/90s all week so it’s back to the heat.

    Congrats again on the baby!

I was so happy to see your announcement on Instagram yesterday – Congratulations! You’ve done an awesome job of staying active through your pregnancy so far and this week was no different. I’m hoping that it will not be as humid this week even though it’s still supposed to be pretty warm. Last week’s temps were brutal!

Wow!! Congrats! That is so exciting. I only ran a few miles when I was pregnant. I wasn’t much of a runner back then. I did go downhill skiing when I was 12 weeks along though! I took it super easy. It was a pretty boring ski trip. Ha!!

    • Lisa @ Mile By Mile says

      July 10, 2018 at 5:15 am

Wow! I’me pretty sure skiing was one of the sports that my dr actually advised against…that and horseback riding and skydiving. Not planning to do any of those things anyway:)

      • Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says

        July 10, 2018 at 1:03 pm

I assured my Dr that I’m an advanced skier and would only go on the easy runs. She replied with “well, I’m not going to tell you not to go skiing, but please use your best judgement”. She gets me 🙂

As noted on IG, totally thrilled for you guys! It is such an exciting time. Funny – you mention it getting hard to hide, and ‘my Lisa’ and I were talking about that: how at 16 weeks with Danny she wasn’t showing, but with Chris she popped right away! Everyone and every pregnancy is different is the lesson, I guess. 🙂

Funny time right now – even as we are starting the transition to ’empty nest’, I have friends at work just getting married, others having their first babies, and others at every stage of having kids (or not) all the way up through empty nest. Very much enjoy all of it.

Would love to hear your pregnancy journey stories in addition to running stories – part of what us interesting is the human elements.

    • Lisa @ Mile By Mile says

      July 10, 2018 at 5:18 am

I’m definitely at that point where I notice a change (and my pants are much tighter) but I don’t think anyone else would necessarily suspect I was pregnant. But sometimes I’ll take a running picture and be like, wow, if I post that everyone will definitely know something is up! But I have definitely heard that 2nd pregnancies show a lot sooner.
It’s fun to be around people in different stages of life. Most of my coworkers are older than me and have teenagers or grown kids so its nice for me to hear about their experiences and I know they are excited to hear about mine.

Thanks so much! I just posted this morning a little more about running during the first trimester. I sort of wish I had documented things better along the way, since I wasn’t blogging about it I sort of forget some of the details from early on!

Thank you!! I’ve loved seeing how you are getting back into running after having a baby because it gives me hope that it won’t be too bad:) I’d love to hear if you have any advice for running through the later part of pregnancy, which is what I am most worried about!

So exciting! Well now you have at least an excuse why you can cut back on your runs in this summer heat and go a bit slower. Isn’t it nice that you don’t have to train for anything?

    • Lisa @ Mile By Mile says

      July 10, 2018 at 5:22 am

Haha true! I definitely don’t think I could handle training for anything right now. I have no idea how some women run marathons while they are pregnant!

Cheers to you and your babe! I was able to run until I was around 7 months and then it just got to be too uncomfortable, plus needing to pee a lot! 😉 the furthest I went was around 6 or so, but you are in much better running shape than I was at that time so I would say run on as long as you are comfortable! Congrats again!

    • Lisa @ Mile By Mile says

      July 10, 2018 at 5:23 am

Thank you! Some days I am already dealing with needing to pee while I am running (which never used to happen before). I plan my runs near a starbucks so I can stop if needed, but I’m sure it will only get worse! (I’ve also been drinking a TON of water so I’m sure that’s part of the reason). 6 miles is great! I have a feeling there won’t be too many more double digit runs but I think running at all during pregnancy is a win.

    Congratulations! That’s huge news!

I hadn’t started running when I was pregnant, and I was so sick throughout my pregnancy that it never would have worked anyway, but I think it’s so awesome when women can continue their workout regimes throughout this time!

Congratulations! When I saw your comment on Marcia’s heart rate post I wondered if it was a pregancy from before I started reading you or if I was more behind than I thought. Pleasantly surprised it’s neither. Good luck with your training for two. And yes, enough with the heat & humidity already

I saw your announcement! CONGRATS again. You’ve done a great job disguising your little secret. 😉 I was not a runner when pregnant. Plus, I had issues that probably would have prevented me from running anyway. Suffice it to say, I’m always impressed by pregnant runners. And double digits? Doubly impressed. You know it’s hot when…sweat drips from your elbows. Thanks for linking!

      July 13, 2018 at 6:00 am

Thank you! I am actually shocked I ran double digits because at first I thought maybe the most I would do was like 6 miles. But I’m at the point where I don’t really feel pregnant and the morning sickness is behind me so I guess that is just what my body is used to!

Yesterday’s’ long run was 16 miles with 6 x 1 Yesterday’s’ long run was 16 miles with 6 x 1 mile MP/1 mile easy. I took a few hours of PTO in the morning to do this on the trail because I knew wouldn’t be able to do it this weekend. This was my first time on the trail since my marathon last November. It was nice to be back there and the perfect place to do this kind of long run. It was the kind of run where you start thinking “ok cool I just did a tough MP workout” but then you remember you actually need to run 26 miles in a row at that pace. Luckily there’s still 9 more weeks of training…although that doesn’t really sound like that much!
41 miles for the week and got in 2 strength sessions. Taking it easy this weekend other than chasing the kids around for all their activities! #run #marathontraining #longrun
It’s kind of freeing to not care about pace. It It’s kind of freeing to not care about pace. It is a little frustrating to have to plan more time for an easy run. But it’s definitely worth it to recover quicker and feel better on workout days! #run #marathongtraining #easyrun
You know marathon training is starting to get real You know marathon training is starting to get real when you start losing track of what training week it is. I had to check my calendar but this was week 6, so 10 weeks to go!

I ran the Charles Street 12 last weekend so this week was all about easy miles and recovering from the race. That went well until I went and ran all the hills yesterday followed by walking around a maze and fun park for 5 hours. I got in some strength and mobility this morning and now I’m back to focusing on recovery!

If you’re training for a race how many weeks do you have left?

#run #runner #marathontraining #richmondmarathon
15 miles, over 1,100 feet of elevation gain, and 9 15 miles, over 1,100 feet of elevation gain, and 91% humidity 🫠 Pretty sure that was harder than my race last weekend, but got it done. Now off to my second workout of the day- taking the kids to an outdoor fun park. RIP to my legs.
What are you up to this weekend?
