Koala Clip Review and Giveaway

I mentioned last week that I recently bought a Koala Clip, which is a phone case that clips to your sports bra or waistband. I had been on the lookout for a new way to carry my phone while I run, so I was definitely intrigued by this product. This will just be a quick review of what the Koala Clip is, how it works, and how I’ve liked it so far.

Looking for an easy way to carry your phone while running? The Koala Clip is a phone case with magnetic clip that can be attached to your sports bra or waistband. Check out this review of the Koala Clip and enter to win a gift card to try one of your own! #running #runningproducts #koalaclip #review #giveaway

I purchased my own Koala Clip a few weeks ago, but I liked it so much that I reached out to the company about partnering for a giveaway, and they agreed! So make sure you check out the end of this post to see how you can win a $35 gift card to try out a Koala Clip for yourself!

What is a Koala Clip?

The Koala Clip is a sweat-resistant pouch that fits a cell phone and attaches to your sports bra or waistband. It closes with a zipper and has a magnetic clip to hold it in place.

Koala Clip

How does it work?

The pouch is soft, and just about the size of a smartphone. (You can order different sizes based on how big your phone is). It’s just the right size to fit a phone without allowing it to bounce around. Items such as a key, credit card, and ID could also be stored in there as well.

Koala Clip 2

The best way to use the Koala Clip is to put the items it in, and then attach it to your clothes. Since I don’t run in just a sports bra, I’ve been sliding mine inside my sports bra but clipping it to the outside of my tank top.

To get your phone or other items out, just slide out the whole pouch to access your items. (It would be way too tricky to try to unzip it and remove items while it was still attached to your back!)

My thoughts so far

It wasn’t exactly what I expected, but works better than I thought it would! Like many of you, I thought I would be able to access my phone while leaving the pouch on my back. First of all, the pouch is soft so it wouldn’t stay in place well without a phone in there. Also, the entire pouch is so easy to take on and off.  It’s not a big deal to take it off to get to my phone.

Koala Clip1

I haven’t tried using the Koala Clip with headphone that have wires, but that might get a little tricky. You would probably just have to put your phone in upside down and couldn’t completely close the zipper. I think it would still work.

The only downside (which has been really noticeable in this heat wave) is that it gets pretty sweaty. While I am running I don’t notice it, but if I take it off and put it back on I notice the wetness on my back (until I start running again). Luckily, the case is sweat-proof, so my phone doesn’t get wet.

So far I like the Koala Clip much more than arm bands and belts that constantly moved around. I really don’t even notice it’s there when I’m running!

Now, it’s time for a giveaway! Enter below for a chance to win a $35 gift card to use at the Koala Clip Website. (This is enough to purchase a Koala Clip and should also cover shipping costs!)

I don’t usually run with my phone, but now I am rethinking that. Sounds like an easy way to carry one. There are so many benefits to having a phone with you as you run, so many good tracking apps. Hmmm…

I would definitely want to try this! I think I like the black one best 🙂

This looks like a great solution to a common problem. I hate arm bands (ugh…awkward and goofy tan lines LOL), but this looks convenient. I would wonder about the perspiration on it, but since it’s waterproof, that’s covered. I’d like the turquoise one, too!

The outside of the pouch can definitely get a little wet from sweat, but nothing gets though to the inside so thats good.

  12. Shathiso says

I would go with pink! Definitely looks better than the arm band I have which is just not practical.

    • Lisa @ Mile By Mile says

      July 7, 2018 at 1:10 pm

I used to always run with an arm band, but I just cant do it anymore, especially since my phone is so much bigger now!

  13. Lesley says

    July 6, 2018 at 10:12 am

I put my phone in my running belt case, and can fit my house key and any fuel I need for a long run. I keep my iPod in my back pocket, upside down with the zipper not quite closed for the headphones 🙂 I used my phone like that when I used arm bands since the headphone hole was on the top, and my phone’s is on the bottom.

    • Lisa @ Mile By Mile says

      July 7, 2018 at 1:11 pm

I actually ran with headphones today and it worked out well! I think because the pouch is soft it was able to stretch enough to fit the wire and just a little space was opened on the end.

  14. Sybil says

I would love to try one out, I would definitely want the black!

  15. Abbey says

I’ve been looking for a better way to carry my phone while running. I use a flipbelt right now and it is just ok. This might be worth trying!

  16. Wendy says

    July 6, 2018 at 12:25 pm

I would need sweatproof, I think! Curious how this would work in the winter under all the layers!

    I’d go with black.

    • Lisa @ Mile By Mile says

      July 7, 2018 at 1:12 pm

That’s a good point- I think the only problem would be getting it out if it was under a bunch of layers. But I still think it would be better than trying to wear a belt with all those layers!

  17. Brittney says

    July 6, 2018 at 2:41 pm

I’ve always wanted to try this!

  18. Lauren says

    July 6, 2018 at 3:05 pm

I’ve been curious about this, but am also skeptical because I’m such a sweaty person-especially in this summer heat!

    • Lisa @ Mile By Mile says

      July 7, 2018 at 1:13 pm

I only notice the sweat when I take it on and off- but the feeling goes away quickly! And today since it was cooler and didn’t notice it at all.

  19. Laura @ This Runner's Recipes says

    July 6, 2018 at 5:05 pm

I’ve seen some people run with this and I have been curious about them. I could see this being useful for things beyond runs, like hiking or going to the gym. I like the bold blue!

    • Lisa @ Mile By Mile says

      July 7, 2018 at 1:13 pm

That’s a good point! There are probably alot of other uses for it.

  21. Michelle says

I have been looking at these! I think I would like the teal or gray.

  22. Morgan says

    July 6, 2018 at 6:05 pm

Looks helpful! I’d probably choose the black clip

  23. Bain says

    July 6, 2018 at 6:17 pm

I’ve heard of this, but never seen it in use before. When you say the case is water proof, you mean the pouch, the one attached to the clip (as opposed to some other phone case), right? Important detail, because I SWEAT.

My favorite color is that aqua, but I might go with black because it matches everything.

    • Lisa @ Mile By Mile says

      July 7, 2018 at 1:15 pm

There is a lining inside the pouch that keeps it dry. So while the outside of the pouch might get a little damp (or on a really hot day, pretty wet!) nothing can get inside of it because of the lining.

  24. Andrew Rich says

    July 7, 2018 at 9:33 am

Thanks for this review. I currently use a Fitletic armband but my iPhone 7+ doesn’t quite fit. I like the expandable pouch idea. I’d probably just go with basic black unless one of the other colors really caught my eye.

  25. Erin G says

    July 7, 2018 at 7:17 pm

I would love a koala clip as I’m currently training for my first marathon! I love the orchid color! Any of the purples really!

  26. Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says

    July 7, 2018 at 7:56 pm

This is a very interesting product! I can see plenty of situations that I could use something like this – hiking, traveling, going to the amusement park… I would go with a simple black that goes with most of my running gear. Thanks for the review of this!

  27. Susana Parker says

    July 8, 2018 at 11:16 am

Looks like a great purchase! I’m still not sure how easily you could access your phone with the pouch on your back. Seems a bit strange but I guess it’s all about getting used to it. I saw this other product to hold your phone while running.. it was legging type shorts with a pocket.. looked handy as well.

  28. Morgan Farthing says

    July 8, 2018 at 7:55 pm

I would love the teal color! What a neat way to keep your hands free while being active

  29. Amy says

    July 11, 2018 at 9:48 pm

I’ve spent way too much time down the rabbit hole that is trying to find the perfect running shorts with a phone sized pocket (or a big enough pocket for a marathon’s worth of gels). I’ve seen this advertised and wondered if it would suit my needs, but I’m not sure about it. Does it work if you clip it to your shorts? I’d choose black.

    • Lisa @ Mile By Mile says

      July 12, 2018 at 4:46 am

It is supposed to work by clipping it to your shorts, but I haven’t tried it that way. I’ve been happy enough with wearing it on my sports bra. But I’ve seen pictures of it clipped to shorts or tights and it seems like it would work! I would worry a little if your phone is heavy it may pull on your shorts a bit if they are loose, but I would be more likely to wear it clipped to tights in the winter (when I have alot of layers on my upper body).

Fall is pretty good too but there’s nothing like Fall is pretty good too but there’s nothing like seeing the sunrise on a morning run! As an early morning riser I would be fine with a 4am sunrise but I know that’s not for everyone so I will just enjoy the 2 months of the year when the sun is up (almost) as early as me. #morningrunner #sunriserun
Let them be your reason, not your excuse. I coul Let them be your reason, not your excuse.

I could sit here and tell you how hard it is to train with 2 young kids. How I rarely get a full night’s sleep anymore. How they got me sick the week before my race. How my SI joint just isn’t the same since my pregnancies. But that wouldn’t be fair, because I need to listen to my own advice that I give them about how to keep working hard and that there will always be obstacles to overcome.

After my race on Sunday I was thinking about how my Kindergartner has been working for a special award all year long. Many times he has told me he just wants to give up, because he works so hard for months at a time and still hasn’t earned it. I keep telling him that if he keeps working hard he will earn it, but what’s most important is that he gives his best each and every day. All those good days add up and even if he doesn’t earn the award, it will mean he had a great year.

Don’t I need to take my own advice and remember that all the good training days add up, even if I don’t get the outcome I want on race day? Before my race he kept telling me to do my best, and that he would give me a prize (artwork) even if I don’t win. So maybe all the lessons I am teaching him are starting to pay off? #motherrunner #halfmarathon #frederickrunfest
I can pretty much see the humidity as I look back I can pretty much see the humidity as I look back on these videos. After a few days to process my race I am feeling better about how it went and starting to focus on what’s next. I guess it’s officially time to acclimate to the heat and humidity because it’s not getting cooler any time soon! My full recap is up at milebymileblog.com
