Sweaty runs. Early sunrises. Shorts and tank tops. Stroller runs without a screaming toddler (I wish…) These are a few of my favorite things!
Last week I wished for spring running weather, and it may have gone straight to summer, but I’ll take it. We are facing a week of cooler weather and some rain ahead but I’m just going to focus on the fact that we had 3 great mornings for running. Sometimes I worry that once the warm weather arrives it won’t be as good as I remembered, but it never fails. I will complain about the heat and humidity at some point but I will still take it over winter weather, especially cold wind!
My week of workouts was a little bit weird, but it all worked out just fine. I started out with a rest day and then tried a Peloton spinning class on Tuesday. I wanted to get in my two strength sessions this week, so I did those on Wednesday and Friday. This meant my first run of the week wasn’t until Thursday! But then I finished off the week with a 4 day running streak.
Weekly Run Down
Monday: Rest Day
Tuesday: 30 minute Peloton Spin Class + Yoga
Wednesday: Strength Training
Thursday: 5 Miles + Core
Friday: Strength Training + 3 Stroller Miles
Saturday: 4 Miles + Hip/Glute Exercises
Sunday: 8 Miles
These are a few of my favorite things
It’s much easier to get out the door when it’s warm out, mentally and logistically. Even just getting Grayson out in the stroller is easier. Let’s just note that being in the stroller is NOT one of Grayson’s favorite things right now. I am hoping that if I keep taking him regularly that he will start to enjoy being out a little more. Other stroller runners on Instagram have given me so hope that this is just a very tough age for the stroller!
Some of my other favorite things include productive weekends with lots of time outside. I got tons of meal prep and other chores done during naps but we also hung out on the deck and porch quite a bit.
Some of my least favorite things
After spending so much time outside, my allergies are killing me. They hit hard on Friday and I’ve just been sneezing nonstop and my eyes and throat are so itchy. I should probably limit how much time I spend outside but I really wanted to take advantage of the nice weather this weekend. It’s a small price to pay I guess.
I’ve also been dealing with tight hips this week and have spent alot of time on my foam roller. I typically roll my quads/hip flexors and glutes but I realized I had been neglecting the sides of my hips. I was able to really get into the TFL area and it felt alot better after doing that a few times, along with some hip stretches. I need to be better about foam rolling regularly!

Did you have warm weather this week?
Are you dealing with spring allergies?
Any tips for keeping a 17 month old happy in the stroller?
I’m linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down!

Nice that you’re using the race-downtime for strength training!
I should focus more on that, too.
I have great admiration for stroller runners. I rarely see an unhappy kid in them, however, last week I saw a desperate father dealing with two screaming kids. There was nothing he could do, poor chap. My heart went out to him.

Honestly it feels so uncomfortable when I’m running near other people and he is upset. I feel like they are judging me, but I’m sure they’re not. I feel like I never see other kids crying in strollers even though I know its very common!
Beckett @ Birchwood Pie says
Isn’t life just so much better in shorts and a tank? I always struggle with the heat in summer but I say bring it on!
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
Yep, I totally agree!
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
Sorry, no advice for the kiddo! And luckily I don’t suffer with allergies, knock on wood.
Definitely spent a lot of outside time this weekend. One of the things I loved about our TX house was how open & light it was — and the high ceilings. I feel so closed in in our NY home, so it’s so freeing to be outside!
I always roll my hips — they are a problem area for me. I’m still doing more foam rolling, but there have been many evenings I’ve been too tired. I gotta try & get it done earlier in the day!
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
I think I’ve been rushing through my foam rolling, and I notice such a difference when I take the time to do it slowly!

Allergies are BAD this year! Not sure why but ugh. Tree pollen seems to be my nemesis.
I hope Grayson settles down for you so you can enjoy more running miles with him. I remember pulling over at playgrounds on my runs so the kiddos could get a break. The struggle is real.
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
We have a playground close by, and I was thinking that once he was walking we would stop there on our runs. But once he started walking in March we were no longer able to use the playground. Hopefully we can get there at some point but I don’t think it will be for a while.

I’ve been struggling with allergies too–I had that COVID test last week because I felt so yucky!
I’d love to have a few dry days. We got 7+ inches of rain yesterday and it’s not over yet. I’m done!
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
Ugh all that rain sounds terrible! We just have cool, dreary weather this week. All day it felt like it might rain but never did.
Kimberly Hatting says
Yes, I say bring on the heat! That’s one thing I will not complain about either. I may have mentioned this before, but my allergies used to be a major burden. I finally bit the bullet and went through several years of weekly allergy shots (maybe 3-4 years?), and the results were so worth the time commitment. I barely have a stuffy nose anymore. With all of my outdoor stuff (as you know, I hate the ‘mill), I’m glad I went that route in dealing with my allergies (when I was tested, I showed reactions to 32 allergens LOL)
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
That’s great that the allergy shots worked so well for you! I only have issues for a couple of weeks in the spring, so I dont know if it would be worth it for me. And I definitely notice it way more on the days I spend alot of time outside.
Deborah Brooks says
The allergy level has been brutal lately! I am still getting out whenever I can but the headaches are crazy. If it’s not one thing…Nice week of workouts for you.
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
I know right! But when its nice out I dont even care that it aggravates my allergies. Im just desperate for sunshine and fresh air!
Laetitia says
Of course I chose to run 18 miles on Saturday when it was super hot! Weather is just all over the place right now lol
Congrats on a great week!!
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
The weather really is ridiculous! Why can’t it just feel like spring for a few weeks?
Kim G says
Oh man, my allergies kicked my butt this week! I don’t know if it was the change in weather, or maybe all the rain?
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
I’m not sure- it was definitely a terrible week for alot of us who deal with allergies!
Debbie @ Deb Runs says
You had a great week of workouts! I have zero advice for keeping toddlers happy in a stroller while running because they became popular long after my sons were toddlers…
We have huge oak trees on one side of our back yard and they’ve been blooming for the past few weeks. On Saturday, I used the leaf blower and cleaned the blooms off of our deck and then had itchy, watery eyes for the rest of the day. Fortunately, my allergies aren’t bad enough to prevent us from sleeping with our windows open on these cooler nights.
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
I dont think I could handle sleeping with my windows open! All weekend I just sneezed nonstop, my throat was super itchy and my eyes were watery. But today I wasnt outside much and I felt fine. I’m hoping they settle down soon once the weather warms up for good.
Jenn says
It’s hot out there. No two ways about it. I would take our winter any day over this and I am so grateful that our cooler weather really lasted late this year.
Sorry that G is having a tough time in the stroller. That has to be frustrating for him and you. I hope he gets more comfortable again soon.
Mr PugRunner had to get back to his acupuncturist for his allergies. He just barely avoided a sinus infection, but he was not feeling good for a solid week. Ugh.
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
Hopefully he feels better after acupuncture! Thats one thing I’ve never tried for allergies. Its crazy that today they completely went away because I wasn’t outside at all.
Coco says
We had a warm Saturday, but the rest of the week is going to be cloudy and rainy. OMG, I am so bad at stretching and foam rolling except maybe once a week ….
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
I’m not happy about this week’s weather at all! Now that I’ve finally started to do some stretching and foam rolling I need to figure out to how be better about making it a regular habit.
Janelle @ Run With No Regrets says
Great week of working out! The warm weather was definitely nice! I only ran once last week but I did feel like I had some allergies going on, so I’m glad to know I’m not the only one!
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
Ive heard the allergies are terrible lately for alot of people! I hope they settle down soon.
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
Yep, that age is a challenge in a stroller. Toddlers just want to be on the go, but on their own terms 🙂 Sorry about the allergies. I need to give my body some foam roller TLC after work today. Feeling really tight!
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
I’ve been waiting to foam roll until I really need it lately- I need to be better about keeping up with it regularly!
Zenaida Arroyo says
The weather changes here every single day. It was nice and warm on Saturday, then rain, and a few cloudy days. Honestly, I am tired of it. No allergies and no kids either so I cannot offer any advice. I cannot imagine how tough it is right now being at home during this time with a child. I know he wants to be outside, play, and to have fun.
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
The weather really has been all over the place. I think it would be easier for all of us if we could just get some consistent spring weather!
