I’m excited because today is the last day of the workweek for me, and tomorrow I am heading to NY for a wedding!
Two of my favorites are getting married which also means I get to spend time with lots of friends who I don’t see very often!
I am pretty lucky because I am still close with my friends from elementary school, but we also visited each other at our different colleges all the time and now my college friends and hometown friends have merged.
The wedding is on Friday night, so I am not planning to do my long run (18 miles) on Saturday morning. I’m deciding if I will do it on Friday or Sunday and really not sure which is the better option.
Some reasons why it’s good to get it done on Friday:
-get it over with and can enjoy the weekend
-I’ll have a rest day the day after my run
-I will have an excuse to wear compression socks on the train
And some reasons to do it Sunday:
-I’ll have more time to relax and recover after, and won’t be on my feet all night
-I can sleep in a little more before going to NY rather than waking up at 5am
-I won’t have to do most of my run in the dark
Oh wait, I will probably wake up at 5am anyway. The weather looks pretty similar for both days so that isn’t really an issue.
This week I have been trying to get more on board with Pinterest but I am finding it extremely overwhelming. When it first came out I learned the basics but I really haven’t gotten past that. I look at some other accounts with thousands of followers and hundreds of boards and I just don’t understand the strategy behind it all. Something to work on I guess!
Other than that, I have been enjoying the sunrises in the mornings lately. I always feel like September makes for the best ones!
And I think that’s about all I have been thinking about lately!
How often do you see friends from high school/college?
When would you do your long run if you were me?
Any tips on using Pinterest?

Pinterest overwhelms me too! I’m just realizing now there are tons of group boards that people are a part of. I feel out of the loop! As for the run, is probably aim for Sunday since nowadays I’m exhausted after an 18 miler!

Glad I am not the only one overwhelmed by Pinterest! And there is definitely an appeal to having the day to recover if I did my long run Sunday…

Have fun at the wedding! Frank was one of the first people I met when we took Katie to college Freshman year. He’s a really nice guy.
[email protected] says
Thanks! That’s so funny that he was one of the first people you met!

Have fun this weekend! If it were me, I’d probably do the run on Friday. I am someone who likes to just get it over with. But then again that’s a super long run (in my opinion anyway haha) and that would wear me out before a fun weekend. I still struggle a little bit with Pinterest- I don’t understand the difference (or the point haha) of pinning something and liking a pin. It takes a while!
[email protected] says
I am confused by that too! And I would definitely like to get the run over with, I guess I’ll have to make sure I will have enough time to get it in.
Susie @ SuzLyfe says
Pinterest is a land of unknowns where I can make out smoke signals and that is about it! I effing love weddings. I’m pretty jealous that you are going to one! lol
And seriously, you need an excuse to wear compression socks on the train? Wow, you must have standards… I obviously don’t!
[email protected] says
You’re right, I don’t need an excuse to wear compression socks. I’m sure I would have justified it some other way!
Laura @ This Runner's Recipes says
I started using Pinterest for fun a few years ago and it’s hard for me to shift into the business mentality of it. I see my college friends mostly at weddings now, but for a few years post-grad most of us lived in the same city which was so much fun. I’d say Friday for your long run—that way you can enjoy the whole weekend!
[email protected] says
That’s what I am thinking as well! And yes, Pinterest for “business” if definitely different that Pinterest for fun!
Alyssa @ Renaissancerunnergirl says
The wedding will be tons of fun! I’d do it Friday to get it out of the way…then again Sunday you could do it in NYC to mix it up.
Also, I also don’t get Pinterest AT ALL 🙂
[email protected] says
I’m actually coming back Saturday, so either way I’ll be doing the run in Baltimore. Glad I’m not the only one who is confused by Pinterest!
Erin@BeetsPerMinute says
I am still best friends with my two besties from high school. We, like, never see each other any more (even before I decided to move overseas) but we stay in touch all the time. It’s really nice.
I would do that run on Friday if it were me, because I know I wouldn’t do it on Sunday. I’d be hungover or useless if I had been at a wedding haha!
I SUCK at Pinterest. It’s embarrassing. I don’t know what I’m doing and I probably never will. Haha!
[email protected] says
I’m hoping if I had a day to recover I would be good to run on Sunday, but it would definitely be nice to get it out of the way!
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
For me, I’d probably do the long run friday. Because then I could eat all the food at the wedding, not to mention it’s out of the way. But I then again 18 miles before work (luckily I don’t work) would be insane.
I’ve just recently gotten onboard with Pinterest. I couldn’t understand it either.
But then I was always forgetting where recipes I wanted to try were from, and keeping a gazillion tabs open, and then eureka! It hit me — that’s what Pinterest is for. For me, anyway.
I’m Chocolaterunsjudy there, too, btw & so far I don’t have a lot on there. And I actually feel like it doesn’t work as well as it should. I downloaded the app on my ipad but trying to pin something from safari has been very frustrating!
Once I get it pinned it’s great, but getting it in there — I must be missing something!
[email protected] says
I don’t have to leave for NY until 10ish, so that is probably enough time to do 18. It would definitely be nice to get it done before I leave!
I’ll have to go look for you on Pinterest!
meredith @ The Cookie ChRUNicles says
I say Friday but that’s only because I prefer switching mine to earlier rather than later for no real reason lol. I wish you were going to be here longer so we could meet up!! I do still speak to my elementary school friends, I saw one of them last weekend at the heart walk (it was in memory of her brother). I love all of my best friends but there is something super special about the friends we have known basically forever, who we grew up with and just know us since we are little girls. As for pinterest, I stick to mostly food and branch out slightly to running stuff only because I will follow my blog friends. I handle pinterest for AllSeated so for their account, I experience all of the event planning, bride and party stuff. So much out there!
[email protected] says
I always like to get mine done earlier too..it kind of depends on how organized I can get myself after work today!
I’m only gonna be in NYC for like 18 hours or something- its so expensive so we had to plan a quick trip!
Heather@hungryforbalance says
No judging for those pictures! You guys look like you’re having a good time!
I would do the long run on Friday to get it over with and to wear compression socks on the train.
I went to high school with my husband, does that count?
Have fun!!!
[email protected] says
That sounds like a good plan, I hope I can pull it off! And yes, your husband totally counts:)
Jamie says
I would totally be all about getting my run done on Friday. Although it will make for a long day, it will totally clear out the weekend so if people want to do brunch on Sunday and catch up you can without stressing about fitting a run in! Have such a fabulous time this weekend!!
[email protected] says
I’m hoping I can make that work! I will still have a run on Sunday, but only 7 miles.
[email protected] says
Long run scheduling can be such a task! It’s hard sometimes to fit in hours of running plus recovery time. I’m all for getting it out of the way asap though, meaning Friday. That way it’s done and you can relax.
Love the pic with the sunrise.
[email protected] says
That’s what I am thinking as well!
Suzy says
I’d do it Friday! Have fun this weekend. Looks like a blast. Yippeee!
[email protected] says
Thanks! Friday seems to be the popular choice:)
Angie @ Pace with Grace says
I would do the long run on Friday. I like to get it out of the way so I can enjoy the rest of the weekend which yours sounds like its going to be a lot of fun! I have stayed close with some friends from HS and college and some still live close so it helps in seeing each other often!
Pinterest is overwhelming to me too. I wonder if you could find some information by Googling “Pinterest Tips for Bloggers” or something like that. I imagine someone has written about it.
Have a great time at the wedding with friends!
[email protected] says
Friday really does sound like a better choice!
And yes, I will totally need to do some research about pinterest.
Amanda @ .running with spoons. says
Oh man. Pinterest can be such a time suck for me, but it’s also the biggest source of traffic for my blog so I do my best to direct most of my social media attention that way. I’ve found that group boards within my niche were the biggest game changer, so if you can find some of those to join and pin your content to, that should help a lot! You can use pin groupie.com to find some group boards you can join.
[email protected] says
That is so helpful- thanks!

I leave for work early, but I do see the colors of the sun rise when I get to work. It’s been very pretty the past couple of weeks.
[email protected] says
They really are great this time of year!
Sarah @pickyrunner says
Have fun in New York! I love weddings… I just need my friends to start getting married HA.
The sunrises these days have been incredible. It makes it so much easier to get up at the crack of dawn knowing you’re going to see views like that towards the end!
[email protected] says
Weddings are so fun, but all the traveling can get a bit tiring…they are also expensive. But I know I will be sad when I stop having weddings a few times a year!
Sara @ Lake Shore Runner says
Friday!! You will have that runners high on Friday and enjoy the night even more knowing you don’t have your long run looming over your head 🙂
[email protected] says
That is what I am thinking too!
Annie R says
I’m still close with both my high school and college friends. I see both groups probably once a year, sometimes more depending on how many weddings are going on.
Definitely do it Friday! You won’t regret it. You might regret it if you wait until Sunday though! You’ll likely be tired after a long weekend and you won’t feel like doing a long run! Trust me.
Enjoy the weekend, sounds like it’ll be a lot of fun!
[email protected] says
Haha good point! I really do want to get it done on Friday.
Tara @ Running 'N' Reading says
Oh, I hope you have so much fun on your trip, Lisa! That’s exciting! I’m going to cast my vote for a Friday run; that just sounds better to me than having to wait until Sunday. Keep us posted and have a great time with your friends!!
[email protected] says
Thanks! Sounds like everyone is voting for Friday, and it does sound like the better choice to me too!
heather says
I would probably do it Friday just to get it over with…then the rest of the weekend you don’t have to worry about it. I only stay in touch with high school people through Facebook. I wish I was a little more adept with social media too. Let me know the secret to Pinterest when you find it.

that sunset was gorgeous!!!!! I absolutely love pinterest, I have found so many recipes, decorating ideas, crafts its silly. i have a board for savory food, dessert, drinks, brunch and a bunch others. I find its really helpful like my travel board…there are so many places i want to go and people post really great tips so i save those boards and when im ready to travel to that place i have a lot of “insider” information on where to go and what to do.
[email protected] says
Pinterst is definitely great for finding new ideas and saving information!

Enjoy your trip to NY!
I’m pretty bad with pinterest – I pin blog recipes on there, however, that’s about all I do – otherwise I find myself wasting half a day haha. I do use it to find game ideas for our youth group kiddos though!
[email protected] says
I definitely use it mostly for recipes. Also, it was really helpful when I was moving and trying to find decorating ideas for my house!
Natalie says
It’s 10:30 PM here which means its 1 am your time… which means you have already decided about your run! I vote for Friday!!! Woo hoo!! Get it done, party on Saturday at the wedding and rest and take a nap on Sunday!
I love my college girlfriends. We are still really close and we go on a girl’s weekend trip once a year, plus a few of us have a book club together. They are the best!
Have fun!! 🙂
[email protected] says
Its so fun to see old friends! And I ended up doing my run on Friday:) I am happy it is over with!
Hailey says
I’m in a similar boat as you for this weekend’s long run. My brother and sister-in-law are graduating with their masters on Saturday, so I’m not sure how a long run on Sunday would go for me, depending how long the celebrating goes on haha so I’m going with the Saturday option :). Plus, I’m pretty sure what I’ll be eating will not be the best fuel for Sunday haha;). I kinda stink at using Pinterest. I just look at the stuff and then can’t remember where I saw something because I never pin it! Have a great weekend, Lisa!
[email protected] says
I hope your long run went well today! I ended up doing mine yesterday figuring it was better to get it out of the way:)
