As you can probably tell from the title of this post, I’m in Florida and it’s been very rainy here! It’s still good to be away, and it’s been a very relaxing weekend so far filled with lots of naps, reading, and wine. The good news from the week was that the weather finally improved back in Baltimore so I got in some good runs outside before I left.
Monday: 4 mile run
The sun finally came out and I was excited to get outside for my run! I just remember that it was warm and sunny but I don’t remember anything else about this run- it feels so long ago! Good thing I was able to look back on Instagram to even see what I did that day.
Tuesday: Strength training
Other than my strength training workout, I also spent some time foam rolling and working on mobility. It always feels good to take the time to do that stuff.
Wednesday: Spinning and yoga
My goal this week was to make sure I got in all my cross-training stuff before I left. I did 25 minutes on the bike following a workout, and then 25 minutes of yoga for runners.
Thursday: 3 miles
This was the day that my allergies got really bad. It always seems to be the worst right before Memorial Day weekend! I still got out for my run but was I was feeling really out of it and slower than usual. I even questioned if I was getting sick because it felt worse than regular allergies. Luckily I started taking some meds and felt better by Friday afternoon.
Friday: Strength training
I finished up week 6 of phase 6 and also did some foam rolling. It felt good to get in a workout and also loosen up my muscles before sitting on a plane for a few hours, plus I didn’t want to pack my foam roller with me. (I did bring and lacrosse ball and the marathon stick which are much easier to travel with.)
Saturday: 4.5 miles
We have arrived in Florida on Friday afternoon to pouring rain. Tropical Storm Alberto was making its way through the gulf of Mexico, and being on the west coast of Florida we would surely be affected. I knew my best chance of a run was Saturday morning when it would be raining but there weren’t thunderstorms. There was a break in the rain around 7:45 so I headed out. It was so humid that I ended up wishing for rain. I got my wish a few miles in when a downpour started. I was glad to get in few miles not knowing what the rest of the trip would bring.
Sunday: 2 mile run and 10 minute walk
When we woke up on Sunday morning it was really windy but not really raining. I decided to head out for a short run but stayed close to the house in case there was any thunder and lightning. Rob headed out for a walk so after my run I met up with him and we walked for about 10 more minutes. Shortly after we got back inside there were really heavy downpours, so we were glad we got out when we did!
This was definitely a lower mileage week with traveling, the storms in Florida, and allergies. I was happy to get in my strength training and spinning knowing I wouldn’t be able to do those workouts while away.
I hope I can get in at least another run or two while I am here, but if not there is always yoga. Or maybe I’ll just be forced to take a few extra rest days which wouldn’t be the worst thing!

How were your workouts last week?
Are you affected by Tropical Storm Alberto?
What workouts do you do if you can’t run outside and don’t have access to exercise equipment?
Linking up with Holly and Wendy for the Weekly Wrap!
I hope Alberto leaves the state soon so you can enjoy sunny Florida! I know he’s actually heading north–we’re supposed get some heavy rain and wind in the middle of the week thanks to that storm!
I hope the weather isn’t too bad for you! It actually cleared up for the most part today, but its still really humid and windy. Tomorrow’s forecast looks like thunderstorms but I’m hoping those are just scattered.
I heard about that storm on the news last night. What a bummer but like you said, still good to get away. We had gobs of cold rain earlier in the week and since then the it’s gotten sooooo hot with not a cloud in the sky. I’m sure this must be record heat for us. 100 degrees yesterday.
Wow, it sure did heat up quickly for you! This is definitely the strangest few months of weather.
If I’m stuck inside, I go with lunges (in various directions), squats (various kinds), burpees, push-ups (varied positions), and planks!
Those are all great indoor workouts!
Alberto should track directly through here. Yippee. If I was stuck inside, I’d probably call up a yoga routine or some type of cardio routine on my phone and get at it. But, sometimes it is nice to just rest. Put your feet up. After all, it is a vacation… Thanks for linking!
I hope you don’t get hit too bad! It must have moved out of this area because today we had some sunshine, although it was still windy. Now we are just dealing with typical Florida heat, humidity, and occasional thunderstorms.
I heard that Florida was getting hit with some nasty weather recently. I am glad I left Florida just in time before all that mess. When I can’t get a run in outside while I am away, I usually do a workout video. Hopefully you get a few nice days while you are down there.
Workout videos are definitely good for rainy travel days. It seems like the weather is clearing up!
It’s always nice to have some extra rest days. I’ve been enjoying the weekend since I don’t have to get training in, or strength training, or anything. Even though I woke up at my normal weekday time, I didn’t get out of bed until almost 2 hours later!
It’s so nice to relax after a hard training cycle!
I live here…its been raining for almost 3 weeks straight now. I’d like my sunshine back, do you know where it went? Lol. Rainy runs are not my fav.
Everyone here has been talking about how bad the rain has been! That’s crazy. Today we had on and off sun most of the day which was nice. Hopefully the rain stays away for awhile!
my friend heather said it’s been raining for days in Florida – so sorry you had to be down there with bad weather! last week my other friend was down in Miami for the weekend and came back early because the weather was so bad!
Wow! Yea, the timing was not ideal but today we actually had pretty good weather for the most part. Tomorrow is our last day and they are calling for thunderstorms but I’m hoping they just come and go.
I’m always impressed with how you mix up workouts! I think we will get some rain from Alberto, and we had family in town this weekend who had to change their whole vacation because of it. Hard to go wrong with yoga or extra rest days!
I hope the rain isn’t too bad for you! How frustrating that your family had to change their travel plans.
I’ve gotten pretty lazy about doing an alternative workout if I can’t do the one I planned … I can always do my PT exercises. The Johnson & Johnson 7 Minute Workout App has great no-equipment options (and you can build a workout longer than 7 min).
That sounds like a great app! I will need to look into it today if it ends up being a rainy morning.
We’ve been in a gray funk for the past couple of days. But tomorrow the sun and heat returns. Woohoo! Hope you had a lovely time away!
Thanks! I hope you enjoy the retune of the warm weather and sunshine!
It’s so hard to run in humidity! I really need to adjust my expectations when it’s humid outside.
Yoga for runners sounds really good right about now!
I definitely had to adjust my expectations! I barely paid attention to my watch at all and just did what I could.
Sounds like a fun week! I’ve been getting in my mobility/strength work every day. It takes time!! But it also feels good to know I am taking better care of my body in a holistic way.
Yes that stuff really can take alot of time, but it’s so worth it!
You do what you can. I think you definitely had a solid week 🙂
I was on the East Coast over Memorial Weekend and didn’t work out at all. What do you think about that? 😛
Some vacations should be all about rest! No shame in that!
