Rather than just show you my food from Monday, I thought I would also talk about my schedule on a typical weekday. I am always hesitant to write posts like this but when others do it I find it really interesting to hear about how they spend their day. Over the past year I have been forced to make changes in my routine due to starting a different job and moving to a new house (with a longer commute). I don’t think I ever realized how much time I saved by leaving for work at 8:00 and getting home at 4:15! Gone are the days when I can attend a yoga class after work. However, with a little adjusting I guess I have managed to figured out ways to get it all done. It’s all about adjusting, adapting, and accepting, right?
Monday started with a 4:30am alarm and coffee. I got dressed in my running clothes, then read some blogs, added my post to the link-up, and checked my spam comments. I usually find about 1-2 “real” comments a day that get stuck in there. (If you think you commented and it looks like it disappeared, that’s usually what happened).
At 5:15 I started my workout. I did my core work and a warm-up, and then headed out for my run.
When I got back I had about 10 minutes to foam roll, during which time I scrolled through instagram and posted the above picture.
At 6:30 I heated up my sweet potato and bacon frittata while making another cup of coffee to bring with me to work. I ate breakfast in about 2 minutes and then headed upstairs to shower and get ready.
By 7:10 I was dressed and ready to go. Rob and I leave together (I drive him to the train) so some mornings if I am ready a few minutes before him I’ll read a few more blogs.
I parked at work at 7:40, excited that there was no traffic! I saw my coworker in the garage and walked the two blocks to my office with her.
Morning snacks were a protein granola bar and an apple.
I had a long meeting in the morning, and then ate lunch (salad and leftover pizza) before leaving at about 1:15 to go to a meeting downtown. This is somewhat unusual, although I do have off-site meetings quite often.
The good news was I got to leave around 4:15 whereas I many days I am at my office until closer to 5. I ate this LARA bar on my drive home.
I arrived home just before 5:00 and marinated steak for dinner that night. I also made my lunch for the next day.
Around 5:20 Rob texted me that he had boarded the train so I went to pick him up. When we get back I made dinner (this ginger, beef, mushroom and kale stir fry) and we ate around 6:30.
After cleaning up, I poured myself a glass of wine and headed to the couch to read blogs and reply to comments. By the time I was done it was around 8:15, and decided it was time for one of these brownies. As soon I saw these on Michele’s instagram last week I knew I wanted to make them, and they did not disappoint!
I put away my laptop and tried to “unplug” for the rest of the night but end up scrolling through my phone. Headed to bed at 9:00 wondering if there would be a snow day the next day! (I ended up working from home- luckily the snow did not end up being as bad as expected!)

What time do you usually wake up and go to bed?
Have you ever had to make changes to your schedule? Is it tough for you to adjust?
Have you tried any good snacks/desserts lately?
The brownies look so good! I wanted to try making them too! I am so done with my computer at night – I try to put it away around dinner time and now try not to look at my phone either past 7, and sometimes, even earlier! So long as my son is home, I don’t need to hear from anyone. I need the break from technology because I am on it all day long.
I definitely like to set time limits for myself with the computer. But if I didnt get on after dinner I don’t think I would ever get to blog! The time it takes really adds up, even with only posting a few days a week.
I absolutely love these day in the life posts! They are so fascinating. I can’t believe how early you get up though. WHEW. I’m also dying to try one of those brownies… hmm…. it’s 2:30am and I’m up coughing, so I don’t think I can make a batch of brownies quite yet. A fistful of chocolate chips will have to do. But I want to make them tomorrow!
A fistful of chocolate chips sounds like the perfect 2:30 am snack!
I love these types of posts! That bacon and sweet potato frittata looks amazing! It takes me a little time to adjust to schedule changes, but then I guess I adapt and they change into a routine. Those brownies look amazing; I have a similar snack on hand for the week with chocolate peanut butter brownies. Happy Wednesday!
Chocolate pb brownies sounds really amazing too!
Wine and brownies. Add ice cream to the list, and well, you might just have the perfect end to the day. I am always amazed by people who late night cook/bake. I do all of that earlier. I don’t know why I am so against it afterwards.
Oh I can’t do anything like that at night either! I do all my baking on the weekends. That’s why I prefer to meal prep- by the end of the day I barely have enough energy to cook dinner!
I always enjoy reading day in the life posts, too! Nice work getting so much done in the mornings- I wish I were more of an early morning person, but 6 is about as early as it gets, ha!
Michele’s brownies are on my ‘must make’ list too- they look awesome!
I am the most efficient in the morning which is tough because there is so much I want to get done! I know if I saved running or working out until later that I wouldn’t do it.
I love day in the life posts to get to know a blogger beyond fitness stuff!
That stir fry looks delicious! Call me next time you make it so I can come over 😉
Or better yet, I’ll bring it to Florida where it’s warm. I don’t think you would like it here when it’s 20 degrees:)
I am nosy about people’s days and eating habits so I love posts like this!!! Dang you get up early. I don’t know, any time with a 4 in front of it seems soooo much earlier than a time with a 5 in front of it!I get up at 5:30-5:45 depending on my workout. Lately, I ave been in bed between 8-8:30 and I read until I fall asleep. It is very relaxing. I love it that you don’t disappoint on your blog title- whnever you recap your food for the day there is ALWAYS a glass of wine in there! 🙂 I prefer my wine before dinner. After dinner there is a dessert for me 99% of the time. Last night I had 3 huge cookies! Oh I also have a post like this one in my draft folder. 🙂
I used to be so scared of waiting up at a time with a 4 in front of it! You are right, there is something about it that makes 4:59 so much worse than 5:00! But once I started doing it I realized it wasn’t so bad. Now sometimes I naturally wake up that early. Which is not a good thing on the weekends…
Wow! I remember those days getting up at 4:30 am for work. I do not miss that. Now I struggle to get up by 8:30 on days I have to work. You ate very healthy that day. All your meals look very tasty too! Wish I could get up earlier to accomplish more in a day. But I can never get to sleep early enough.
If I went to bed later I don’t think I could get up as early as I do! But its a cycle…I wake up early, so I am ready for bed early:)
I really enjoy the day in the life posts. It’s interesting to see what other people’s routines look like. I definitely have it pretty good because my commute is so short, so I leave my apartment at 8:35 to walk to work and I’m generally home by 5:30-6. I don’t know how you wake up at 4:30!!
I think it would be so nice to be able to walk to work! Probably not when the weather is bad, but most of the time it would be great to not have to worry about traffic!
Woohoo so glad you liked the brownies. They disappeared so quickly here I’ll need to make them again. Sometimes I’m amazed at how much I do before the day actually begins (which in my head is when the kids are up and getting ready for school) so I guess I’m glad to see other people who have the same stuff going on. I have much respect for 4:30 – lately I’ve been dragging myself out at 5:30 and not getting blog stuff done early.
My problem is I am so much less efficient in the evenings. So I can get up early and do some blogging, or wait until later, but it would take me probably twice as long if I tried to do it all at night.
I don’t work far from home, and do work 7-ish to 4-ish. I’ll get home around 4:30 or a little later, then hit either my living room for strength training, or the fitness room for the treadmill. If the weather’s nice, I might try to run outside, but my neighborhood isn’t exactly flat, with most of the sidewalk at angles. This Saturday I’ll be outside and trying to keep to flat ground.
Sounds like you have some good options available!
I would love to say I go to bed at 9:30pm and wake up at 6:30am since I really need my full 8 hours and it takes me awhile to fall asleep. But lately it’s been more like staying up til 10:30-11 and waking up by 5:30/6, if I’m lucky. Need to get myself to stick to good habits even when the people around me aren’t!
It can be tough to get in a good sleep routine! When I am up later than normal I definitely have a harder time waking up the next morning, and feel thrown off for awhile.
All your eats look tasty! I can’t imagine getting up that early, but really need to do better about getting my runs out of the way in the morning.
Its nice to get it done first thing!
I usually am in bed my 10:00 and my alarm goes off a little after 5:30. However, I probably don’t actually get out of bed until like 5:45. It was hard when I worked at a school that started earlier, but I adjusted to waking up at 5:00 to get my workout in. I haven’t had any new desserts lately, but I am craving Cold Stone like no other!
I am one of those people who is up as soon as my alarm goes off- sometimes before it even goes off! It drives my husband crazy because he won’t hear me leave and then complains that he slept in too late:)
i like these kinds of posts too, sometimes it seems like bloggers have all the time in the world to workout and post but its nice to see “behind the curtain” 🙂 I used to have a similar schedule, but now that i work downtown theres an extra 3 hours worth of commuting i didnt have before. its tough to adjust but its the norm now…wish it wasnt though…i will never love my commute but i dont think anyone really does.
That sounds annoying- long commutes are the worst! That is one of the things I highly consider when looking for jobs or places to live.
Oooh that beef and mushroom stir fry looks delicious! I made coconut oil whole wheat pastry flour chocolate chip cookies from a Gimme Some Oven recipe and they were insanely delicious.
I like getting to see this peek into your life! You get so much done so early! I usually wake up at 5-5:30am and go to bed at 9:30-10pm.
I need to look for those cookies, they sound amazing! I am definitely a morning person, that’s for sure:)
Here’s the recipes: http://www.gimmesomeoven.com/coconut-oil-chocolate-chip-cookies-recipe/ 🙂
I’m pretty sure every day should end with wine. 🙂
Of course, I agree with that!
Such yummy eats! You really make me realize that you don’t have to eat out all the time to eat well haha. Your eats are still always so varied and balanced. That frittata looks killer!
I do so much worse when I eat out! I am way less likely to chose something healthy, probably because I don’t eat out all that often and it feels like a “treat”:)
i wake up at 7:15, in bed by 11. Also- those brownies look AMAZING and my tuesday night ended with a deserving glass of wine 🙂
Any night is a good night for wine, I think:)
Love day in the life posts, especially when combined with WIAW! Your eats look super yummy and the red wine/brownie combo is ON POINT…yum!!!
I feel ya on the 4:30am wake up call. I have to get up at 4am on the days I workout before work…ugh!!! I’m more than ready for bed by the time 9-9:30pm rolls around.
I had to adjust my schedule when we moved and my commute went from 15 minutes to over an hour…boo! I don’t do well with changes to my schedule but such is life so I’ve learned to be more flexible…kind of 😉
I’m working on being more flexible too- its definitely a work in progress!
A full and busy day! My day starts at 5, although I get up to put our old dogs out a couple of times during the night. I like to head back to bed around 9:30ish. No dessert here. Just my protein balls. Haha!
Wow, not sure how I would feel about getting up to let dogs out during the night! I am out like a light once I fall asleep!
I just posted my WIAW as a “what I ate and did” as well! I love reading other people’s “day in the life” so thank you. I am always astounded by how early some people get up in the morning – I find getting up at 7am hard! On the other hand, I am regularly working so that I don’t get home in the evening until 9 or later so can’t really get to bed any earlier than 10. So my day begins at 7 (or 8 if I have a lie-in) and ends between 10 and 11. I had a few huge changes to my routine in the last year as I moved country to Madrid, Spain, where they do everything very differently – later to wake up, later to go to bed, later to eat, really long lunch breaks… I actually loved it!
Wow, I am sure there were a lot of changes that went along with moving to a different country!
I typically go to bed between 10:30 and 11 and am up by 5:30 because of my kids. They are early risers. I really need to start going to bed earlier!! I have been wanting to try those brownies too! They look delicious! Have you tried Laura’s almond chia fudge? OMG< to die for.
No, I haven’t tried that! I will need to check out that recipe!
