Workouts, Wedding Weekend, and Treadmill Tempo Run

Thanks to the time change, a few days off from work, and a busy wedding weekend, I am all thrown off about what day it is. I’m just popping in to share my workouts from last week as well as a treadmill tempo run that I followed on Monday.

Last week was a busy one as we prepared for my sister's wedding weekend! I still got in all my workouts and made up a treadmill tempo run. Click post for details.

Monday: 5 mile tempo run

We had some crazy winds on Sunday night so I decided to go to the gym on Monday morning. This was my first real treadmill run in a while, so I made up a workout to help pass the time. It helped me adjust to running on the treadmill again at various paces.

A treadmill tempo run to help you get used to running various paces on the treadmill!

Tuesday: Strength training

I don’t remember much about this workout. It was my last week of phase 3 of my training plan!

Wednesday: 3.1 miles easy

Back outside again, which felt good. I kept the pace really easy and stayed close to home on a  pretty flat route.

easy run

Thursday: Strength training and 30 minute spin bike

I knew my week would be thrown off, so I decided to get in a little cross training with my strength training.

cross training

Friday: 12 miles

I was off from work in preparation for my sister’s wedding on Saturday so I did my long run on Friday. I was out the door before 6 am and I felt like most of this was in the dark. It was hilly and definitely hard at times, but felt good to get it done.

fall run

Saturday: 30 minute elliptical

We had to be ready for hair and make up by 7am so I just did a quick 30 minutes on the elliptical in the hotel gym. We don’t have too many pictures from the wedding yet but here is one of me and Rob. (I didn’t have my phone with my for most of the day and this was the only picture I took!)

Sunday: Rest

We were pretty tired from all the wedding festivities so just kind of relaxed all day. Rob’s parents stayed with us an extra day so we both took off from work on Monday too. I didn’t even watch the NYC marathon but was so excited to see all the updates about Shalane! She is so inspiring.

I’m glad to have the day off to prepare for the week ahead! I started to feel like I was getting a cold this weekend so fingers crossed I can fight it off.

I love your dress! I don’t have any that are one shoulder like that. It was crazy windy here on Monday as well. I hope you fight off your cold. I got sick once so far this school year… knock on wood. It lingered, though! Treadmill running is usually my last choice! I try to plan it so I lift on the two days of the week that have the worst weather, but obviously I don’t always plan perfectly!

I havent been sick in awhile so I am hoping I can fight this off! Its no worse today so maybe it will just go away. I also try to move around my runs so avoid running when the weather is bad. In the winter its hard because there could be so many bad days in one week!

You look beautiful!!! Nice that you were able to get a workout in before the big day. I find that always helps me get my head in the game.

You look stunning! Glad to hear the wedding went off well. Looks like it was a pretty day. Sooo dreary and rainy here all weekend but today we’re sunny and freezing. I actually enjoy the mill for speedwork. The workouts just fly by.

The weather was actually great for the wedding! (A little cold to be outside in dresses, but still warm for November!) Any kind of intervals definitely help the time pass while on the treadmill.

Great work this week- and such a pretty dress!

I caught the second half of the women’s race and Shalane was incredible! My 7 year old loved watching too, which was fun to share that with her.

I was on my treadmill Saturday because of wind too. I waited for the sun to rise and give me some warmth, but then the wind came with it :-/ At least I could keep testing out my treadmill.

Its awesome that you got a treadmill! I would definitely be taking advantage of that too, especially on windy days!

I love that dress! I struggle with the treadmill now – I have to do something like hills on it to pass time, otherwise I can’t make it for very long!

Well, you probably know ‘Milly and I aren’t exactly close friends. I am debating on whether I’ll run with her later or take it outside (in the crazy cold & windy weather). #runnerprobs LOL Totally glamorous pic in all your wedding attire 😉

The treadmill isn’t ideal, but it’s a good option to have! Especially when the weather is not cooperative.

Oh, what a beautiful dress you wore to the wedding. Very pretty!

I run 2x per week on the treadmill and so many people ask me how I do it. Honestly, I don’t mind the treadmill too much if I can watch TV or listen to music while doing it. I also love it for interval or hill training (it’s pretty flat around here).

P.S. Excuse the comment galore, I am – as always – behind on my Feedly.

Thank you! And I guess the treadmill isn’t too bad. It takes me awhile to get used to using it again when its been awhile. Its really hilly where I live so like using the treadmill when I want to avoid hills:)

Great pic of you two! I have a hard time staying motivated running on the treadmill so I always vary the speed and incline to pass the time.

      November 7, 2017 at 5:21 pm

I do the same thing! Otherwise I get really bored, even if Im watching tv or listening to music.

I always play with the pace and incline when I run on the treadmill! It makes the time go by so much faster.

      November 8, 2017 at 5:02 am

I definitely agree! I get so bored running at the same pace throughout the entire run.

Would it even be race week if I wasn’t a ball of n Would it even be race week if I wasn’t a ball of nerves and not able to sleep? This is my first big marathon in 10 years, my first time traveling to a race in 10 years, and my first time spending the night away from my kids. And of course I’m tapering so I can’t run off the nerves 🙃 #marathontraining #taper #richmondmarathon
Looked like fall, felt like summer 🍁 I was definit Looked like fall, felt like summer 🍁 I was definitely overdressed for this run but it was nice to not wear gloves or a headband! This was the run I needed a week before my marathon. After last week’s disaster of a long run it felt great to just run an easy 10 miles. (And these days 10 miles feels like nothing). I think I figured out the fueling and shoes 🤞so nothing left to do but take it easy, carb load, and get in the right mindset! Is it unseasonably warm where you are?

#running #marathontraining #longrun
Yesterday’s long run was not what I wanted it to b Yesterday’s long run was not what I wanted it to be. The plan was to take the day off from work, head to the trail where I could run 10 uninterrupted miles at MP (16 total) and practice my race day fueling while wearing my race day shoes.

What actually happened? All week I was stressed about this run and the condition of the trail. We had lots of rain on Thursday, and Friday was forecasted to be very windy. I tried to get in the best mindset possible, reminding myself that I won’t be able to control the conditions on race day. Meanwhile, I haven’t been sleeping well thanks to my 2 year old waking up every night, and my watch has been basically telling me that I’m losing all my fitness and need a week of recovery.

While I started the run feeling pretty good, after 11 miles (7 at MP) my stomach turned and I almost got sick on the side of the trail. I just couldn’t recover from that. The best I could do was run the rest of the miles easy, and needed some walk breaks. On top of that, my shoe kept rubbing my foot on top and I stopped twice to retie it. This has never happened before and now I’m questioning what shoes I should wear for the race. The trail was also in rough condition with several trees blocking it, lots of wet leaves, and rocks/sticks that I had to look out for.

I just can’t believe how bad I felt for the last 5 miles of this run and I can’t pinpoint the cause. Am I overdoing it with the fueling and can’t handle it on harder effort runs? Was it something I ate recently? The hard part is there’s no time to really try something different before the race, as all I have left is a 10 mile easy run next weekend.

I’m trying to remember that one bad run does not take away from all the good runs this training cycle. I’m using today to reset and move on so I can make the most of my last 2 weeks of training. It’s not the way I wanted my last big long run to go, but I suppose it was good practice for pushing through even when I felt pretty awful.

Who else has had a terrible long run close to your race?

#running #marathontraining #longrun
Spent almost every step of this 21 mile run questi Spent almost every step of this 21 mile run questioning my life choices. Like waking up at 3am to run 12 miles on the treadmill and 9 outside. This was a crazy week with a kid that wasn’t sleeping great and fighting a cold and super busy days at work. My legs were just tired the whole time today. It was really hard to run outside after so many treadmill miles and my pace was much slower than inside.

I reminded myself that this is peak week. It’s supposed to feel hard. If it was easy everyone would do it. I ran 53 miles this week and am not injured. The weather is perfect. I’ve gotten in every planned run of this training cycle so far. I get to do this.

And I managed to finish strong with my last 3 miles the fastest of the (outside) run. I owe that to a solid fueling plan and taking all my gels even when I really didn’t want to.

3 weeks to go until race day!
