A few days ago Cori from Olivetorun posted a “Would you rather?” running survey, so I thought I would chime in with my responses.
#1. Would you rather run in a thunderstorm or a snowstorm?
Well after my experience running in snow would probably go with thunderstorm. Unless there is active lightning. I don’t mind running in the rain, and I don’t mind running in the cold/snow, but ice and lightning change everything.
#2. Would you rather breathe through your nose or breathe through your mouth?
I think that I automatically do both. I can’t swim effectively because I can’t control when I breathe or how I breath, so I am constantly swallowing water or getting water up my nose.
#3. Would you rather do 100 squats or 100 crunches? [Now take a break and go do them. ;)]
100 crunches. But I would want to vary them. Besides, aren’t planks more effective anyway?
#4. Would you rather have a baked good for dessert or an extra serving of your favorite entree?
Always dessert. And honestly, I usually have both. But if I had to picked I would go with the baked goods.
#5. Would you rather run on a treadmill for an hour or run around the same street block for an hour?
I think I would rather run around the same street, but both sound pretty boring!
#6. Would you rather have a headache during a run or a side stitch?
Side stitch. I have learned how to breath through those, but headaches just make me feel like my head will explode each time my foot hits the ground.
#7. Would you rather have a rest day on a work day or a day off?
I like to take my rest day when I am off from work. It makes me feel like I have a full day to rest and relax. I figure if I have to get up for work anyway, I might has well get up a little earlier and go running.
Besides, early morning running=awesome sunrises
#8. Would you rather be a race director or a race volunteer?
Not sure… I think it would be cool to be a race director if I had the time to invest in it.
#9. Would you rather spend your money on running gadgets [HRM, GPS watch, Headphones] or running shoes?
Running shoes for sure. I count on getting other gadgets as gifts and then I try to make them last forever. Shoes need to be replaced all the time, and there should always be a few in rotation, right?
#10. Would you rather run in a relay or do the run portion of a distance triathlon?
I have always thought it would be cool to do a relay. It sounds like they are pretty exhausting but so much fun. I think it would be a fun challenge to do a couple different legs of the race.
Thanks Cori for posting this survey!

I would much rather do planks than crunches 🙂 Thanks for joining in!

Definitely snowstorm, because to me thunderstorm implies threat of active lightning. And ice and lightning are the two things that will take me off the road. There is an absolute serenity of a snowstorm that I love. I ran in the snowstorms that dumped over 12″ across 2 days here.
In terms of the repeating same roads, I did that when the snow was really active – I did our neighborhood loop twice for 3.5 miles. Not what I prefer, but gave me distance and kept me off unplowed main roads!

Yesterday I repeated a bunch of side streets over and over because they were mostly cleared and very few cars. Like you said, not ideal but sometimes we have to make sacrifices to get our runs in:)

I agree that ice is deadly! I definitely did not enjoy that on my run yesterday! I agree about crunches over squats too! Squats are not my favorite, at all!

I am getting really tired of dealing with ice around here. And its only been a few days:(
