Workouts and Christmas Weekend

Hi there! I hope everyone had a great holiday weekend! I’m just popping in today to share my workouts from last week and some pictures from Christmas. I’m off to Michigan later today to keep the festivities rolling!

Monday: 20 minutes spinning + BBG Arms and Abs

I had run on Sunday, so went with a little biking and arms/legs to start out the week.

abs and arms

Tuesday: 3.5 miles + PT exercises

I did another mini-workout: Warm up, then 2 minute hard/1 min easy (7 times total) plus a few minutes of easy running to cool down.

fartlek run

Wednesday: 10 minutes spinning + BBG Legs and Cardio

More burpees once again! I think they are in just about every BBG workout.

leg workout

Thursday: 4.3 miles + PT exercises

It was a balmy 37 degrees for this run! I wore a few less layers, and was slightly chilly when I started but ended up feeling really good after the first mile. Isn’t this how December weather is supposed to be?

stretching post run

Friday: 10 minutes spinning + BBG Total Body Workout

The nice thing about following BBG is that I don’t have to think about what to do for my strength training routines. I think it would have been more difficult to get started with a workout if I had to figure out what to do on my own!

Saturday: 10 miles!

My first double-digit run post-injury! In fact, the last time I ran 10 miles was in the Baltimore 10 miler the week before my foot started hurting. I wasn’t planning to do 10, I actually had no distance in mind, but once I got to 8 I figured I would just keep going! I got outside a little later because of the rain but this run went by pretty quickly.

10 mile rainy run

On Saturday afternoon Rob and I went to church and then met my parents, sister, and her fiancé for dinner. We then all went back to my parents’ house to exchange gifts.

Family Christmas Eve

Sunday: 4 easy miles

I love running on Christmas morning! A nice easy recovery run was perfect before heading home for breakfast, coffee, and exchanging gifts with Rob.

I must have been good because I got a new Garmin!! Of course 99% of my gifts were running related. I also love this mug that Rob had made for me with my blog on it!

We went back to my parents’ on Sunday afternoon and just had a low-key day. My sister went to her finance’s family’s house for the day, so it was just the 4 of us. Lots of relaxing, eating, and drinking wine, just the way I like it!

Great week! Your post reminded me I need to continue my PT exercises-need to keep my ITBS away as the mileage increases-thank you 🙂

Look at that runner’s haul! Love it. Like I said, I’ve been thinking about BBG, but I won’t be able to do burpees because of IVF, so I think it probably wouldn’t be a good idea for me!

BBG has SOOO many burpees. It’s kind of good because I would never do them on my own.

    Yeah! Love that mug!

Awesome haul of gifts – I had a clothing-centric Christmas, with about half of it running-specific, and I really needed new winter gear! You’ll see pics, but I think I finally found some cool men’s tights!

Glad you had a great Christmas, and always love the pics of you two – looking great and happy!

I love that mug! I also received a lot of running related gifts, including a medal rack from my parents! I never had one before.

I still haven’t hung my medal rack that I go 2 years ago! I need to do that soon.

That mug rocks!! My week consisted of slowly adding in some extra miles…taking things easy so my recovery can continue in a positive direction. I sorta of scored on running-related gifts as well 😉

It’s funny but I didn’t get any running gear. I think that’s the first in quite a few Christmases. I did get an iTunes gift card, so I can go looking for new songs for my running lists.

Oh wow how special I love that coffee mug with Mile by Mile on it! The hubs did a great job on that gift! How do you like you new watch? I bet you couldn’t wait to get out there and try it out.
I got some new workout clothes but it was so dang hot and humid til I stuck with shorts and a tank! This Mississippi weather is crazy!!!

    • Lisa @ Mile By Mile says

      December 30, 2016 at 3:59 pm

The watch is really great! It does so many things besides just tracking runs. I can’t believe its still so warm for you!

I got in a lot of workouts last week, as most of my clients are on vacation, so things were slow.
Glad you had a nice family Christmas.

Congrats on 10 miles! I bet that felt good. 🙂 What a great idea for a mug! I have nothing with Meg Go Run on it. Maybe I will do a mug or Christmas ornament or something. You know what’s crazy? I didn’t get any running related gifts this year! I didn’t ask for or need anything so I guess that makes sense. I am currently working on a puzzle I got.

    • Lisa @ Mile By Mile says

      December 30, 2016 at 4:01 pm

I asked for almost all running and workout stuff so that is pretty much what I got! I didnt’ have anything for my blog so the mug was a nice surprise!

You will looove your new Garmin! It’s so nice to not have to wear a second device for tracking heart rate!

    • Lisa @ Mile By Mile says

      December 30, 2016 at 4:01 pm

It really is great! I cant believe how well it tracks heart rate without a chest strap!

i love workout calendars that are already planned for you. i think thats why in the past i didnt do as much as i should because its really a lot of work figuring out what moves to do! I have that same garmin watch in the same color and LOVE it!!

    • Lisa @ Mile By Mile says

      December 30, 2016 at 4:02 pm

Isn’t the watch the best?! Following a workout plan is definitely easier than figuring out what to do on your own.

Congrats on your first double digit run since your foot injury. I know you were pleased! I think you’ve been so patient with and diligent about your rehab. That mug is such a sweet gift as well as the new Garmin watch. Can you believe I didn’t get any running gifts? But, I did get a few cycling ones. Low-key is the perfect way to spend Christmas Day. Since I didn’t host Christmas Dinner, it was much less stressful and more enjoyable this year. Thanks for linking, Lisa!

A low-key holiday is definitely nice! The recovery has certainly felt long but I think its finally starting to pay off.

Yesterday’s’ long run was 16 miles with 6 x 1 Yesterday’s’ long run was 16 miles with 6 x 1 mile MP/1 mile easy. I took a few hours of PTO in the morning to do this on the trail because I knew wouldn’t be able to do it this weekend. This was my first time on the trail since my marathon last November. It was nice to be back there and the perfect place to do this kind of long run. It was the kind of run where you start thinking “ok cool I just did a tough MP workout” but then you remember you actually need to run 26 miles in a row at that pace. Luckily there’s still 9 more weeks of training…although that doesn’t really sound like that much!
41 miles for the week and got in 2 strength sessions. Taking it easy this weekend other than chasing the kids around for all their activities! #run #marathontraining #longrun
It’s kind of freeing to not care about pace. It It’s kind of freeing to not care about pace. It is a little frustrating to have to plan more time for an easy run. But it’s definitely worth it to recover quicker and feel better on workout days! #run #marathongtraining #easyrun
You know marathon training is starting to get real You know marathon training is starting to get real when you start losing track of what training week it is. I had to check my calendar but this was week 6, so 10 weeks to go!

I ran the Charles Street 12 last weekend so this week was all about easy miles and recovering from the race. That went well until I went and ran all the hills yesterday followed by walking around a maze and fun park for 5 hours. I got in some strength and mobility this morning and now I’m back to focusing on recovery!

If you’re training for a race how many weeks do you have left?

#run #runner #marathontraining #richmondmarathon
15 miles, over 1,100 feet of elevation gain, and 9 15 miles, over 1,100 feet of elevation gain, and 91% humidity 🫠 Pretty sure that was harder than my race last weekend, but got it done. Now off to my second workout of the day- taking the kids to an outdoor fun park. RIP to my legs.
What are you up to this weekend?
