Hello Treadmill, My Old Friend

I was back on the treadmill this week and honestly not hating it at all! There’s just something about the convenience that I really appreciate. Especially when most days I’m running at like 4:30/5:00am, the darkness can kinda get to ya after awhile.

Hello Treadmill My Old Friend

I ended up moving things around this week for several reasons. The biggest change was that I did my long run on Thursday on the treadmill. It was super windy outside and we were going to be away over the weekend, so at the last minute I decided to just get it done.

My strength training plan was delivered to my inbox on Tuesday, just in time to start following it on Wednesday. I always like the start of a new phase! The reps are on the lower end and it’s nice to have some different exercises to try.

Weekly Run Down

Monday: Rest
Tuesday: 5 miles with 6 x 3 minutes hard/1 minute easy
Wednesday: Strength training + 20 minute walk
Thursday: 10 treadmill miles
Friday: Strength training
Saturday: 5 treadmill miles
Sunday: 3 (hotel) treadmill miles

Oh and I got new shoes this week! I have been wearing the same running shoes since the fall of 2018, so over a year. To be fair, I rotate between 3 pairs plus I took off a few months after having Grayson last winter. So I wore 3 pairs over the course of about 10 months. I could feel that 2 of them were getting worn down. I had been looking out for sales for awhile but didn’t see any.

For my birthday I told Rob that I really needed new shoes and asked him to do the research to find a good deal. And he did! So I ended up with 2 pairs that came out to the same price as one full-priced pair.

Tuesday’s run was a good one. I did a warm up followed by 6 x 3 minutes hard/1 minute easy. I had 40 minutes to run so I was glad to be able to get in 5 miles!

Grayson turned 10 months on Tuesday! How is he less than 2 months away from being a year old? I can’t believe how fast time is flying!

Lisa and Grayson

This weekend we had a wedding in Maine, so I am drafting this before we leave. I’ll try to share some pics on Instagram since they won’t make it into this post, so make sure you’re following me at Mile by Mile!

I am also a treadmill lover. Sure, running outdoors is more fun but I don’t mind a good treadmill run. The weather is the middle of the week was so crazy – we have a lot of tree branches down on the ground because of the wind. Super smart to do your run on the treadmill on Thursday!

That’s so great that your husband was able to find a great deal on new running sneakers for you!

I think being on the treadmill just makes me appreciate those outdoor runs even more:)

I still avoid the treadmill at all costs. There is something about being outside in the fresh air that I find so invigorating. However, if it was 4:30 am not so sure I would feel the same. Great job getting in some good mileage this week

If I’m running later in the morning I will choose to run outside 99% of the time! It’s really those early mornings that are just easier to opt for the treadmill.

I don’t use my treadmill at home — probably because I have to walk Scooby first, so I might as well run with him. I do like the treadmill blocks at OTF, but those are short intervals. Happy birthday – new running shoes are a great present. In fact, I got mine for my birthday last year, and that’s coming up in November …. Grayson is so adorable!

I’m glad your treadmill works for you 😉 I’m glad all of my long runs (in the dark) are done, but I don’t mind the shorter ones outside, under the stars. I have walked on the ‘mill a couple times since last winter, but have not run on it. I’m holding out until the weather is at the extreme LOL Happy Birthday, and congrats on the new shoes!!

I’m sure there will be plenty of times this winter when the treadmill is the only option, unfortunately. I definitely want to get outside more again before I really feel like I’m stuck indoors for the winter.

Grayson is getting so big! I go through phases with the treadmill, and once I start running again, it will be my only option most days of the week! A home treadmill is so much more enjoyable than a gym one though.

Will you be able to run with Isla in the stroller when the weather is warm enough? Not sure if you have the adapter for the running stroller. The treadmill was so useful last winter when I was stuck inside most days! Even when I wasn’t running I could get in a short walk during nap time.

I’ve not been on the mill lately as our weather has been gorgeous. I did strength training on our high wind days. Enjoy the wedding and Maine! Grayson is such a cutie and such a big boy already. It really does fly.

That’s smart to plan your strength training on windy days! I’ve been trying to take advantage of the nice days for running outside when possible.

15 mile long run workout this morning! Honestly, e 15 mile long run workout this morning! Honestly, every step of this felt challenging, so I’m pretty happy that I still hit my paces. I’m going to blame it on the humidity. WHY is it still so warm and humid when it’s almost October 😩🥵 I made the mistake of leaving my hair in a ponytail so of course it was a tangled mess by the time I was done. When will I learn? Just glad I got this done to wrap up week 9 of @richmondmarathon training! Is it still humid where you are? #run #marathontraining #richmondmarathon #longrun
Yesterday’s’ long run was 16 miles with 6 x 1 Yesterday’s’ long run was 16 miles with 6 x 1 mile MP/1 mile easy. I took a few hours of PTO in the morning to do this on the trail because I knew wouldn’t be able to do it this weekend. This was my first time on the trail since my marathon last November. It was nice to be back there and the perfect place to do this kind of long run. It was the kind of run where you start thinking “ok cool I just did a tough MP workout” but then you remember you actually need to run 26 miles in a row at that pace. Luckily there’s still 9 more weeks of training…although that doesn’t really sound like that much!
41 miles for the week and got in 2 strength sessions. Taking it easy this weekend other than chasing the kids around for all their activities! #run #marathontraining #longrun
It’s kind of freeing to not care about pace. It It’s kind of freeing to not care about pace. It is a little frustrating to have to plan more time for an easy run. But it’s definitely worth it to recover quicker and feel better on workout days! #run #marathongtraining #easyrun
You know marathon training is starting to get real You know marathon training is starting to get real when you start losing track of what training week it is. I had to check my calendar but this was week 6, so 10 weeks to go!

I ran the Charles Street 12 last weekend so this week was all about easy miles and recovering from the race. That went well until I went and ran all the hills yesterday followed by walking around a maze and fun park for 5 hours. I got in some strength and mobility this morning and now I’m back to focusing on recovery!

If you’re training for a race how many weeks do you have left?
